    Distance: 140km
    Ascent: 853m
    Descent: 898m
    End of day elevation: 2306m
    Weather; Sunny, 20°C
I woke up to wall to wall sunshine, and a soaked tent...due to a brief but strong storm overnight.
Bobby was up before me, and was on his way as I was getting my act together and drying out my tent on the rocks adjacent to our camp.
The ride into South Pass City and Atlantic City was quite nice, but with some unexpectedly steep climbs and exciting descents.
Unfortunately, due to the day's intended destination, the A&M Resevoir, there really wasn't any time to explore South Pass City.
The intention was to get some supplies and breakfast in Atlantic City, as the ACA app indicated both a store and restaurant were there....but alas, they were both closed when we rolled in (due to the owners and staff having COVID...). Our only option was Wild Bill's Gun Shop...and fortunately, as they do provide an outfitting service, they had chocolate bars, dehydrated meals and a top up of our water supply...perfect!
The crazy steep ride out of town put us out onto the basin...and so it was for the rest of that long day. We were so thankful/grateful for the sunshine and a predominant tailwind.
The only options for water directly on the route, beyond Atlantic City, was the Sweetwater River and Diagnus Well...the later of which we stopped at for a break, drink plenty of water and top up for the long ride ahead. There were other water stops identified on the app that were off the route a ways, as well as the possibility of stopping by the oil workers camp along the road, but we had enough to make the long ride to the campsite at the A&M Reservoir.
The ride across the basin was vast, otherworldly, desolate and magnificent, all at the same time.....with only the occasional mountain way off in the distance.
On a number of occasions, we saw herds of Pronghorns (or Antelope) running across the vast landscape
I stopped recording video about an hour before getting to the reservoir, and as it was getting dark by the time we got there, we used the remaining light of the day to setup camp, have a quick wash and make dinner...before being treated to a crystal clear night and brilliant stars stretching from horizon to horizon.
A day and ride that I'll never forget!!

As a kid growing up I would read comic books of all kinds and Tex Willer was one of them. The stories may not have been from around where you are in this episode but I remember illustrations of great expances kind of like the basin, only with those very distinct mountains you would typically find in Arizona and Utah, like Monument Valley and Moab. And those scenes have stuck with me ever since and serves as a romantic memory of what the US is like. Or used to be anyway. Come episodes like the one you posted today, brings bak those memories and I realize that nothing much has really changed as far as the scenery goes, but how you get around is what has changed the most. I'd rather ride a bike through the basin than a horse, though, that's for sure :-) Close call with that cow towards the end there, good thing she fled the opposite direction. It would have been a bad hit.
    Thanks for another great one.
    Cheers.

      Thanks A.K.!
Very cool how stories from our childhood create romantic images of the areas where they take place...a good author can put you right there!! Like you said, I don't think much if anything has changed from a landscape POV...and I would say that given how primitive the roads were through the basin, many of them may have been there since the days of the stagecoach... I wasn't expecting buttes like one would see further south, but there were a few hills around that were eroded in the same sort of way. Agreed that I'd rather have a bike than a horse to get across that expanse! For that split second, I thought that cow was going to hit me...and if I had veered a few more cm's to the left, I may very well have eaten some of that scrub!! Lucky me! Cheers!

Great video Reinhart. Tailwind all the way, how fortunate. As well fortunate that cow bolted to the right not the left. How many days to go?

Thanks David! I was soooo thankful and grateful for that tailwind and the fact that it wasn't too hot. I thought for sure that cow was going to hit me...and thankfully I didn't veer any further to the left than I did...otherwise I may have gone down... There are quite a few more days to go... ;-).
      Cheers!

Couple times I met riders, me driving to town, grab a pizza and see on way back, have met the best people riding out here. It's really nothing my part, it's fun from my perspective to meet.

Apologies if this has been asked before but what or how did you handle you SD cards? Did you just bring a dozen or so cards? Did you upload when you had WiFi? I’m thinking about doing the ride and would like to document it but at a lose on how to handle the data
