I think it depends on a few things. If he loses to Aspinall I think that’s absolutely a factor. But I also don’t think Jon Jones is as globally known as Conor or Khabib by non-MMA fans. Cards like the 86 Jordan are so expensive largely because its not just basketball card collectors driving his market; Jordan has global appeal, even to non basketball/sport fans. I am not sure Jones has that same appeal outside our community

I went over this point in my caveats section and completely agree with you. The sport of MMA has to continue to grow and most likely Jones will never get even close to that level.
Its one of the most popular ufc cards for sure. Everytime I do a most expensive ufc card video, it makes the list every time. 🔥
Always a fun topic, so fun to think about and we are fortunate to be able to have that conversation. Jon Jones red or blue auto round 2 defiantly enters the conversation. As far as 52 Mantle I'm not sure we have seen the Mickey Mantle of the sport yet, plus a lot of things happened that made that card special and rare.
My 52 Mantle knowledge is really limited. What happened around that time to make them special and rare?

Very cool topic mate! You make some solid points with the overall simplicity of the design makes it very appealing. As you said it's fun to speculate with this kind of thing. Only the future will decide the 86 fleer Jordan of the ufc. Culture relevance outside of mma is a big factor and plays a massive role. For example as a kid of the 90's in Australia, I'd never watched an NBA game but knew who Michael jordan was. My brother had a big poster of him in his room. The UFC is still not big or mainstream enough to have that cultural impact. The closest we have had is Conor and i don't know if he is that guy.
Completely agree JBJ is the MJ of MMA, and i believe in couple years that card you have will definitely be one of the most sought after cards and one of the most valuable too. I think UFC card hobby is going to explode in the next couple of years.

I think you've definitely got a point there. It's a solid looking card, great fighter. There's some Contenders I believe such as Georges St-Pierre 2009 Topps Auto, and Conor McGregors 2013 Bloodlines 1st auto.
Will be fun to see how it plays out over the next decade or so.

Politely with a handshake - disagree. ****IF any card can even come close to iconic or valuable to the Fleer MJ/Mantle 52 - it's gotta be Anderson Silva's 2006 "PRIDE" Rookie Card Graded in a 9.5/10 - the card is also known as "Anderson Silva's Pre-UFC Pro MMA Rookie Card" the population is BEYOND scarce and highest graded ones are iconic.**** The Pride Card has a PSA Population of 30 - with only 16 PSA 10s in total existence. The Jones sticker auto is nice but sticker autos even at super rare and collector standpoint can turn folks off.
I love this conversation because it’s literally all opinion and speculation😂But I agree the Anderson Pride would definitely be a card that could take the #1 spot! As far as eye appeal that card is insane, such a good design with the lettering.

Believe it’s the 2011 Leaf Metal series…everything prior I could find were stickers
@@NicoBjj95 Ah nice. Leaf isn’t a licensed UFC product though so idk if that would be the one (obviously it’s all speculation and opinion, but that would be the rebuttal on that card for me).
Hmmm I don't think there is a solidifed one (yet) to be honest. Just like the points you mentioned some factors that make those card iconic are
1. There tends to be a story / legend about them (ex. 52 mantle, honus wagner)
2. The athlete transcended the sport (ex. MJ rookie)
Even with football there are numerous cards that gets brought up but nothing 100% agreed upon. Brady contenders auto / walter peyton rookie etc. Modern collectors might even say the mahomes shield / prizm.
I think MMA is the same, if you ask anyone "what is one card you think of when I say MMA cards" I'm sure you will get a wide array of answers.
Also one thing to think about is, "which card would a non MMA collector want to own" without you having to explain why they need to own it. Because for the mantles / wagner / MJ / maybe even Brady. I will consider buying that card without hesitation if I saw it for a good price.

Great video and that Jon card could be it. I do think we’ll look back years from now and it could be a Conor auto (for his global popularity), or a Royce Gracie as a pioneer of the sport (and maybe Ronda for women’s MMA).
A Royce rookie auto would be sick. That’s a card I’d like to have eventually in my collection.
I just don’t think Conor’s legacy will stack up for him to be the face. I think he will be remembered like AI in basketball. (One of the most exciting and popular players ever who changed the culture of the sport but isn’t one of the best ever)
