The part he "got wrong" was Greve vs. Rada/Rufina...out of curiosity, I looked up all 3 of those places. Greve is about 11 miles from both the other sites he mentioned, so he placed this wine to within 11 miles of the actual vineyard from a blind tasting. Incredible!

The body really comes from the grape as well the soil and growing condition variations in climate temp can have a large affect on the flavor. Since he's a pro he has access to wine grown in various years from the same vineyard that's the only thing I can think of 🤷🏽‍♂️

It's honestly not hard to learn how to blind wine. I've taught people to recognize, and blind accurately classic varietals such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Cabernet - all in under an hour. Now, getting more specific with site, and with varietals which can display similar characteristics is tougher (ie Nebbiolo vs Sangiovese or Tempranillo) but with practice, and with study, anyone can do it. Why we taste blind is to learn how to accurately assess the qualities of a wine. That way, when someone describes a wine they like (even in laymen's terms) we can properly guide them to selecting a bottle they will enjoy on our list.

Color, the condition of the fruit and florals, and structure, basic wine theory, meteorological familiarity with a region's wines pertaining to a particular year/vintage. What I mean by theory is that you can't just call any vintage with Chianti: local wine law within the region of Chianti requires the wines to have specific aging requirements both in cooperage and in bottle in order to bear the Chianti name.

@@TheGodYouWishYouKnew i just read that 'Supertasters' are people who have MORE taste buds per given area than most. typically they dont like bitter foods like wine, coffee, brussel sprouts, broccoli because they are overpowering to them. i count myself in that group. i also hate cabbage, have NEVER drunk coffee and cant stand the disgusting smell of brewing coffee and consider broc, cabbage and brussel sprouts as members of the Plywood Family. i have never enjoyed wine except for the alcoholic benefits. when it comes to wine i firmly beleive the challenge is finding a wine that is so good that i won't recoil in horror on the first sip. As a sommelier i would probably eliminate 90% of all wines and only drink buttery sweet wines! FWIW
