Kito Ryu's kata is preserved inside these techniques. Good to see them

This was some of the weirdest judo I've seen. I had to read the wikipedia description of what it is to understand what is going on.

The weirdest to me is definitely Jyu no Kata
Closer to gymnastics than to judo in my eyes

lol my understanding is the kata were designed to obscure the true meaning of the techniques from people who weren't in the know. Secret techniques and all that.

I figure when your opponent weighs 135 and is wearing 50 pounds of armor, and is coming at you with a sword supplying a ton of momentum, you can probably just fall/roll/step out of the way as he faceplants and will be pulling grass out of his ears for the next week. This is like pure principles with nothing extra. Just pure pulling and pushing and twisting people off balance.

Excellent video of kata. To the untrained eye, this looks strikingly similar to aikido.

pretty sure Aikdo is heavy on wristlocking throws and standing armbar takedowns with circular footwork. Kito Ryu does none of that.

@@mongolchiuud8931 those do make up part of the aikido curriculum, but there are several techniques in this kata that are almost identical, if not completely identical, to aikido techniques, for instance techniques 1,3 and 6 are variations of kokyu nage, 5 is aikido's sumi otoshi, 7 is sokumen irimi nage, just to name a couple of examples

@@meg4m4nex7 Morihei Ueshiba and Kano both studied Kito Ryu. There's no great mystery as to why so many of the techniques are the same.

@@pointless.speculations6741 my response was to Mongel Chiuud's claim that they didn't believe the techniques in this kata were also in aikido, I simply pointed out that they most assuredly are, also even though kisshomaru claimed his father was a master of kito ryu there are those who would dispute those claims
