It’s extremely interesting that Tosen hates Kenpachi so much because he gained captancy by killing the previous Captain in such a barbaric, yet legal way… yet Tosen literally became a captain because he tried to wipe out his previous Captain in a completely insubordinate and illegal way. Super hypocritical.
I see it ironic, yet make sense for who he is and what he stands for. Zaraki the guy who killed a guy as you said may not have been this much of a problem for Tosen, if Zaraki did not like to fight all the time, and did not care about who he is facing but their strangth. So Tosen saw it as being too dangerous for the future of justice so he wanted to kill him, without knowing Zaraki's plot XD. But to me, Tosen was wasted with the fight of Aizen. Sure with what Tosen told Aizen (SPOILERS), but I just see this as a miss opportunity. Because you have a person who's a captain, yet, blind who's afraid and passed this to his vice captain Hisagi or Shuhei. However you wanna call it. I feel like he would be a GREAT use as a captain, more than what he was for the plot. But that's just my opinion. You can agree or disagree with that.

Hisagi still respects Tosen because they shared a moment between the three of them as Tosen died, and watched Tosen question his actions, while acting more Tosen-like and less Aizen-like in his final moments. Him not standing to hear speaking ill of the dead is also very in-character, as he killed Tosen himself; and is also 100% the type of person to have an issue with speaking ill of the dead. Especially when only two people know how that person felt as they died. And the person speaking isn't one of them at all. Basically, I think if Hisagi hated Tosen's guts; he would have STILL been upset with Kensei.
Shuhei is a truly great Shinigami and person as a whole. He sure displays bravery and determination when battle commences. His work in CFYOW was also admirable, with him seeking the ugly truth of his world even if it put him in danger of Yoruichi brainwashing him or worse. Tosen is just a tragedy, made more jarring given he metaphorically saw the truth regarding Soul Society's 'justice'.
That findor fight with the music in the background is such an amazing moment. Another brilliant moment from hisagi is when he sends kira renji and momo to safety while fighting the Hollow himself. Also hisagi was saved by yamajii twice which is a feat in itself.
Tosen and Hisagi are among my top 10 characters in bleach. A lot of people overlook the 9th division. However retrospectively if you look at it as a whole they’ve had more impact (character wise) than a lot of other divisions ended up getting. Great video!
Yessss!!! Tousen's drip was way above everyone else. His 2 shikai awesome his Bankai is the ultimate counter to Aizen's ability and his Hollowfication was amazing his Resurrection on the other hand was his downfall it was ugly and actually made him weaker 😭😭😭
@@Purple05 His Bankai is still one of the most broken abilities in the series, shame they only used it as a step ladder to show off how strong Kenpachi is only for Kenpachi to go on to lose to Shikai Ichigo anyway. In my opinion the 3 best shinigami abilities in the show are Aizen and Shinjis Shikai and Tousens Bankai, all 3 are related to messing with your opponents perception and all are broken imo.
Kubo was doing some serious character whiplash with Shuhei. To devolve from "fan favorite" to punching bag in a single arc, and then main character in the novel.
Hisagi is one of my favourite chatacters in Bleach. Out of the three liutenants that were betrayed, Hisagi handled it the best. I've always liked Kensei because his militaristic & hardcore persona is what is needed to put his Squad back on track, but also to get Shuhei to get his act together. I hated to see Shuhei defend Tosen against Kensei, despite knowing he was a dirt bag. In the end, I learned that the members of the 9th are the most passionate about their, ranging from Kensei's hard heart to make everyone tougher to Tosen's heart for justice to Shuhei's heart for fairness and the truth. Note: That scene between Kensei & Soi-Fon often gave me a feeling that those two have always been at odds
It almost makes u think with the way kubo seemed to forget about hisagi's bankai development story, if he expanded that story and actually added a fight scene with hisagi using his newly learned bankai as one of the new fights we were promised, maybe him and mashiro fight one of the sternritter where hisagi reveals his bankai, one can dream but i feel it would be well received by fans given his popularity
Hisagi and Kensei are my favorites. I love Mashiro too but she’s the definition of Underutilized. Even if it’s just filler, I’d love an arc dedicated to Squad 9. And the backstory as to why all the eventual Vizords are as close as they were in Turn Back the Pendulum. Kensei needed more fights
I REALLY love the division overview you are doing. Not only you are telling about what the division is, but you ALSO talking about it's members in a GREAT DETAILS. Same goes with the theme going on as far with the flower. To me, I love the fact there was a blind captain who actually SAW who the gotei 13 really are, but still played the part as a captain, even IF it was all an act. This ALSO WHY I liked about Amagai Shunskei (filler captain of the Gotei 13). Because I don't THINK, people are giving these two enough credit. Not for their strength or abilities. But they should get credit for who they are as characters and what they stand for. And the best moment for me in this moment? Was the fight with Hisagi and Findor, when Hisagi said: "I'm afraid of my powers". And then he said: "you finally started to feal afraid. You are finally are my equal". To me, these guys in the 9th division, are commanding as you said but also fear death but trying to use this fear to keep on moving forward. Of course having the ability to lead others no matter where they are. Whatever it's in a fight, death, or even in their free time.
Mashiro's and Kensei's moment in the ATYBW plotline was explored a little bit more in the recaps of We do Knot Always Love You (which is not only about Rukia and Renji's wedding! It was a lot of nice information about how Soul Society came together after the war!!!). Mashiro used her hollow mask to get stronger to protect the shinigami academy from the explosions and attacks from the quincies. I thought it was really cool, but sad that it was cut off the manga. I don't think the anime will cover this scene either, since it looks like they're cutting even more things than the manga did.

Not a hot take at all. Anybody who still eats the prodigy hype clearly doesn't understand bleach. We have seen so many characters by now that it's clear Toshiro is just behind on so many levels. Even factoring in his age, there are characters who were younger than him and still had greater feats. By Toshiros age, he should have had some impressive accomplishments and achievements by now yet we have never actually seen any. Besides him being captain at a young age, nothing shows he is a prodigy. Let's be honest here there are 5+ shinigami who could have been captain before even Toshiro was made captain. The gap between Gin and Toshiro is so vast that even with a time jump to "older mature Toshiro", Gin would still win. Toshiro can be taken out by one move by like 5 captains if not more. The way he got curb stomped by mayuri, that's no prodigy.....

Indeed. He really got to shine as a detective Shinigami while holding his own in battle as always. Also liked how Kisuke stood up for him when Yoruichi was hot to trot on silencing him for digging into the Spirit King's history. That moment really drove home how innocent lives can be endangered for knowing too much, especially in an empire of blood and lies.
Tousen I would say hes my favorite. Aside from basic design and back story as well as his sword, I found him the most intriguing now Kensei was my viserd I also loved the wind element of his sword. Hisagi I respect but I just hated how they waited so long to show his released shikai and I thoroughly agree how he got done so dirty getting beat up constantly constantly in Tybw he deserved better. Also curious about Mashiros sword 🤔
I think Kaname being fearful of death makes even more sense considering the info we get in the Hell arc on what happens to the captains that die. I personally think that He and Aizen both had alterior motives than the ones upright presented. I think given the knowledge Aizen had he likely knew the bit of information above, and likely told Tousen (most likely to manipulate him further.) And Tousen accepting the hollow upgrade as an attempt to counter that situation. I think Aizen too did something similar but had a much more intelligent and plausible plan. He obtaining the hogyoku either A. Allowed him to overpower the energies that mind him to said outcome, as well as the hogyoku prolonging his life indefinitely as far as we know as viewers. Which negates the outcome ever existing. As well as eventually allowing him to take in his main dream of being subservient to no one. It will be interesting if any of these theories play out at all in the latest hell arc.
I’m currently reading the Soul Society Arc (again and more « seriously ») just finished the flashback with academy Hisagi, Renji, Kira and momo. Perfect timing I guess, I love this division so much, I wish to see more Kensei in the future.
9th Division being the Investigative division makes them pretty much MPs (military police). Weird a blind guy was the captain of an investigative section but okay. They're basically also assigned to do newsletters. I know the pain.
As much as I love Kubo, I can never forgive how he treated Kensei in particular. For an experienced captain level fighter, they have him job harder than anyone else, he fights like a mindless brute in every scenario he’s in, and is only used to make other characters look better. Shuhei too for that matter, at least Tosen got a good showing. CFYOW remedies this a bit, but also introduces its own slew of issues.
I wish we could have seen hisagi Bankai in the manga and it would a little better in the anime and I was always hoping hisagi would become a captain at the end of bleach sadly that didn't happen

I feel that possibly Visored were forbidden from using the masks inside the Seireitei, yet allowed to use them somewhere far away (Hisagi's training was somewhere in the woods we don't know exactly where), which is my only justification for that issue (Kensei wore a mask too during that training in the CFYOW, as far as I remember). Hopefully, it'll get resolved in the anime!

I always took the super vice captain thing as something mashiro herself just made up. Like mostly played up for laughs rather than an actual position cuz she likes to do whatever she wants and kensei just doesn’t care anymore
And mashiro is the type that would whine ALL THE TIME about not being the lieutenant anymore to EVERYONE, probably bullying Hisagi saying that she's stronger than him, until she got that super 9 badge and "got the title". Like you would do to a child :') I love her
Hisagi after defeating tousen should of made captain seeing him at the lineup would of made more sense but I see the need to reconcile the ranks being stripped after Aizen left
Hisagi is my favorite character next to Ulquiorra and Grimmjow. Kensei is maybe my favorite out of the vizards (him or Rose). Tosen I was always thought was.....aight. Here's hoping that Hisagi and Kensei get more love in the anime of TYBW
As a kid reading manga I didn’t understand what it meant by having diversity in characters. So when it came to the ninth division I thought it was cool to see a character like Tousen in this medium. I was shocked since I only expected characters to be only milk tan. And this was when I was young and had no idea what it meant at the time. So despite how he ended I thought Tousen was a interesting character at least until the very end.
I do think so too! Bleach has actually a very wide range of characters with different appearances and skin colors and culture references. It's very nice to see and makes everything more natural, in my opinion.
Absolutely love this division my 3rd favorite after squad 11 & 6 so many colorfully characters and surprisingly enough kubo filled their ranks Rare sight but cool nonetheless
I guess it makes sense how they're both the security and investigative branch as well as the news branch. With such an authoritarian regime, the investigation team gets a majority of the details first and the professional opinion of the security detail would have the knowledge of what can and cannot be published.
To be fair Tousen could probable damage himself or Gin or Aizen could damage himself to help his cover and than use his bankai or something to prevent him from looking suspecios

In bleach, sometimes people will age slower (sasakibe and Shunsui looking 42 while yamamoto looks 103) Toshiro stuck in a kid's body even tho he's around what? 40-50 years old max at this point? But Mashiro? I don't get it. She was a lieutenant 110years ago, so she's not young at all. I'd say probably 130-140years. Why do you think she's still the same dumb and annoying infant she was 110years ago? The only other character that remained a kid for such a long time is Yachiru, and we know why. What's Mashiro's deal?
Fun fact: the 69 tattoo that Hisagi and Kensei share is a reference to Kensei's surname *Muguruma* which is written with the Kanji for "6" and "car/riksha", amd the fact that obviously Kensei was and is the 9th Division Captain. The more you know 🤣
Honestly always felt the 7th and 9th shoulda been 1 division with Tosen as captain, komamura vicecaptain, iba and shuhei as 3rd seats... not like 11 and 13 don't get similar treatment with 3rd seats still being relevant. Also the shuhei bankai training was so weird to me? Couldn't Kensei just ask Orihara for the bankai training tools??? Also when the enemy has a way to steal bankais... why are you trying to make more of them???? He should have just done general training over the basics like Toshiro did, and maybe trained his hollowfication more since we know thats a bankai level power up and he's a rare person who can do it.
If you ask me in which division i want to serve i'll probably 9th. Hokuto no Ken have side story manga about most popular characters, Saint Seiya The Lost Canvas have side stories about gold saints. Maybe, Kubo should pick someone to draw side manga about Divisions? I want to suggest Naoshi Komi, he's style is somewhat similar to Kubo's and he can draw pretty cool action scenes, it was kind a waste to draw a romcom where is not a lot of it. Or if he wants someone without popular manga Sugita Naoya. Again, their style and action are somewhat close.
I personally feel like every shinigami should learn bankai it doesn't have to be as strong as the captains but they should at least all have bankai or at least the first stage I couldn't be a captain in bleach because in my division is going to have to learn bankai

Kaname Tousen has been my favorite Bleach character since he appeared. So profound, full of values, and apparent contradictions.
Good chunk of 9th Division consists of some of my favorite characters in Bleach itself, seeing how mine are Hisagi, Kensei, Tsukishima and Gin.

The Gotei is technologically advanced so I can imagine they would have braille as well

The 9th division has some great characters, but they mostly get overshadowed by even greater characters.
Kensei doesn't get half the screen time he deserves. Guy is a legit badass. Probably my favourite Vizard next to maybe Hachi or Shinji

Not a hot take at all. Anybody who still eats the prodigy hype clearly doesn't understand bleach.
We have seen so many characters by now that it's clear Toshiro is just behind on so many levels.
Even factoring in his age, there are characters who were younger than him and still had greater feats.
By Toshiros age, he should have had some impressive accomplishments and achievements by now yet we have never actually seen any. Besides him being captain at a young age, nothing shows he is a prodigy.
Let's be honest here there are 5+ shinigami who could have been captain before even Toshiro was made captain.
The gap between Gin and Toshiro is so vast that even with a time jump to "older mature Toshiro", Gin would still win.
Toshiro can be taken out by one move by like 5 captains if not more. The way he got curb stomped by mayuri, that's no prodigy.....

Indeed. He really got to shine as a detective Shinigami while holding his own in battle as always. Also liked how Kisuke stood up for him when Yoruichi was hot to trot on silencing him for digging into the Spirit King's history. That moment really drove home how innocent lives can be endangered for knowing too much, especially in an empire of blood and lies.

Tousen I would say hes my favorite. Aside from basic design and back story as well as his sword, I found him the most intriguing now Kensei was my viserd I also loved the wind element of his sword. Hisagi I respect but I just hated how they waited so long to show his released shikai and I thoroughly agree how he got done so dirty getting beat up constantly constantly in Tybw he deserved better. Also curious about Mashiros sword 🤔

I think Kaname being fearful of death makes even more sense considering the info we get in the Hell arc on what happens to the captains that die. I personally think that He and Aizen both had alterior motives than the ones upright presented. I think given the knowledge Aizen had he likely knew the bit of information above, and likely told Tousen (most likely to manipulate him further.) And Tousen accepting the hollow upgrade as an attempt to counter that situation.
I think Aizen too did something similar but had a much more intelligent and plausible plan. He obtaining the hogyoku either A. Allowed him to overpower the energies that mind him to said outcome, as well as the hogyoku prolonging his life indefinitely as far as we know as viewers. Which negates the outcome ever existing. As well as eventually allowing him to take in his main dream of being subservient to no one. It will be interesting if any of these theories play out at all in the latest hell arc.
I’m currently reading the Soul Society Arc (again and more « seriously ») just finished the flashback with academy Hisagi, Renji, Kira and momo. Perfect timing I guess, I love this division so much, I wish to see more Kensei in the future.
9th Division being the Investigative division makes them pretty much MPs (military police). Weird a blind guy was the captain of an investigative section but okay. They're basically also assigned to do newsletters. I know the pain.

As much as I love Kubo, I can never forgive how he treated Kensei in particular. For an experienced captain level fighter, they have him job harder than anyone else, he fights like a mindless brute in every scenario he’s in, and is only used to make other characters look better. Shuhei too for that matter, at least Tosen got a good showing. CFYOW remedies this a bit, but also introduces its own slew of issues.

I wish we could have seen hisagi Bankai in the manga and it would a little better in the anime and I was always hoping hisagi would become a captain at the end of bleach sadly that didn't happen
Hisagi is of course my fav in the 9th division. I thought he was such a bad ass, and seeing him thrown around during the last arc KILLED me.

I feel that possibly Visored were forbidden from using the masks inside the Seireitei, yet allowed to use them somewhere far away (Hisagi's training was somewhere in the woods we don't know exactly where), which is my only justification for that issue (Kensei wore a mask too during that training in the CFYOW, as far as I remember). Hopefully, it'll get resolved in the anime!

I always took the super vice captain thing as something mashiro herself just made up. Like mostly played up for laughs rather than an actual position cuz she likes to do whatever she wants and kensei just doesn’t care anymore
And mashiro is the type that would whine ALL THE TIME about not being the lieutenant anymore to EVERYONE, probably bullying Hisagi saying that she's stronger than him, until she got that super 9 badge and "got the title". Like you would do to a child :') I love her

Hisagi is my favorite character next to Ulquiorra and Grimmjow. Kensei is maybe my favorite out of the vizards (him or Rose). Tosen I was always thought was.....aight. Here's hoping that Hisagi and Kensei get more love in the anime of TYBW
As a kid reading manga I didn’t understand what it meant by having diversity in characters. So when it came to the ninth division I thought it was cool to see a character like Tousen in this medium. I was shocked since I only expected characters to be only milk tan. And this was when I was young and had no idea what it meant at the time. So despite how he ended I thought Tousen was a interesting character at least until the very end.
I do think so too! Bleach has actually a very wide range of characters with different appearances and skin colors and culture references. It's very nice to see and makes everything more natural, in my opinion.

I guess it makes sense how they're both the security and investigative branch as well as the news branch. With such an authoritarian regime, the investigation team gets a majority of the details first and the professional opinion of the security detail would have the knowledge of what can and cannot be published.

i never understood something about tosen isn't his zanpakto someone else's didn't it belong to his friend that died if that's true he managed to achieve bankai with someone else's zanpakto(can add graverobbing to tosen's steps to revenge) in the anime when they visit his grave his/his friends zanpakto is on top does that mean zanpakto can be reused how do they not have a zanpakto armory of thousands of fallen soul reapers zanpaktos
I always hated that Kensei and Rose were killed by Remmy, but then somehow brought back to life by the end of the arch? I thought it would have been more impactful if they had stayed dead. (like Byakuya)

In bleach, sometimes people will age slower (sasakibe and Shunsui looking 42 while yamamoto looks 103) Toshiro stuck in a kid's body even tho he's around what? 40-50 years old max at this point? But Mashiro? I don't get it. She was a lieutenant 110years ago, so she's not young at all. I'd say probably 130-140years. Why do you think she's still the same dumb and annoying infant she was 110years ago? The only other character that remained a kid for such a long time is Yachiru, and we know why. What's Mashiro's deal?
Fun fact: the 69 tattoo that Hisagi and Kensei share is a reference to Kensei's surname *Muguruma* which is written with the Kanji for "6" and "car/riksha", amd the fact that obviously Kensei was and is the 9th Division Captain.

Honestly always felt the 7th and 9th shoulda been 1 division with Tosen as captain, komamura vicecaptain, iba and shuhei as 3rd seats... not like 11 and 13 don't get similar treatment with 3rd seats still being relevant.
Also the shuhei bankai training was so weird to me? Couldn't Kensei just ask Orihara for the bankai training tools??? Also when the enemy has a way to steal bankais... why are you trying to make more of them???? He should have just done general training over the basics like Toshiro did, and maybe trained his hollowfication more since we know thats a bankai level power up and he's a rare person who can do it.
If you ask me in which division i want to serve i'll probably 9th.
Hokuto no Ken have side story manga about most popular characters, Saint Seiya The Lost Canvas have side stories about gold saints. Maybe, Kubo should pick someone to draw side manga about Divisions? I want to suggest Naoshi Komi, he's style is somewhat similar to Kubo's and he can draw pretty cool action scenes, it was kind a waste to draw a romcom where is not a lot of it. Or if he wants someone without popular manga Sugita Naoya. Again, their style and action are somewhat close.
If story about each division will be 2-3 volumes they can turn it into movies and show them in the theatres.
I appreciate you putting work in to analyzimg squad 9's popularity. But it comes down to; Hisagi = Hot, 69=Nice. The whole squad can get it, honestly.
I personally feel like every shinigami should learn bankai it doesn't have to be as strong as the captains but they should at least all have bankai or at least the first stage I couldn't be a captain in bleach because in my division is going to have to learn bankai
