This song is based on real life events, Lil Dicky had to move from Philadelphia to Napa, California, but Molly wasn't ready to move, which is why Lil Dicky chose music over her.
Here's a quote from him regarding the situation:
"It really wasn’t that difficult of a decision because I knew what had to be done. I knew that I had to pursue my dreams before anything. Going for music wasn’t something that I regret and it wasn’t something that I debated really. Me and Molly aren’t going to get married at this point, but even if it was my absolute soul mate, at the time I don’t think I would’ve been able to put her in front of me accomplishing my dreams.
So the decision wasn’t the difficult part. It was living with the realities of the outcome."

I’m only 14 so I don’t know what it feels like to be divorced but my parents divorced and I thought the same but the best thing happened a couple months later. Keep your head up and eventually the universe will even out, everything happens for a reason.
i dont know if i was on the same situation like you or not, but i just broke up with my girlfriend, all i can do is just crying, and of course i would give anything for her. im always hoping this situation would make her became more happier than when she was with me.
I feel your pain. I put being a paramedic /firefighter before my first marriage... Moved across the country trying to get into school and departments... Stuck together through 99% of it all and after 10 years of struggle, (most of those years were before I found my dream job and working potato pay jobs) she left... She got really bitter and ugly and became that which I ran towards her and found security from.
I'm remarried now with children who are my purpose in life... But it still hurts...
Sometimes I have dreams of her and I struggle if they are beautiful dreams... Or nightmares waking up and they arnt real.
Keep your head up and eyes on God's Word. Your life matters, and you can do this.
Been there before. I thought my life was over until I met my current wife. She changed me forever. Sounds stupid but she rescued me from the path I was on (partying and drinking). All I can say is never give up, you'll find that special someone. It sounds cliche but that special person maybe be closer than you think. Good luck to you.

@Digger Nick Dicky already said in a Reddit AMA that Molly is a real girl, a girl he was in love with that he saw a future with, but he wanted to pursue a career in rap, but she wasn't prepared to support him knowing that it was so risky, and definitely wasn't prepared to move. So he made his choice, he moved and she moved on. At the time this song was released she was engaged but Dicky never actually attended her wedding, so this is all hypothetical, but his point was still that, had he not pursued his rap career, it could have been him that she was engaged to.
