For those who like information about Dimas' songs: The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The keyboard player, Baigali Serkebaev, composed the song together with the poet Ilia Reznik, and the song was first performed in 1998. The singer of the group A-Studio passed away in 2015, and in this concert, the group was backing up guest vocalists. The triangle man is multi-percussionist Ilya Pokrovsky, a very talented man and a close friend of Dimash and member of the Dimash team (DQ Team). He plays various percussion instruments and accompanies Dimash in all his concerts. Someone explained that the special tribal riff is something practiced in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and other parts of Asia. A similar technique is also used in some parts of the Middle East. It is referred to by some as a "glottal stop". We use it too when we say "uh oh". A Kazakh CZcamsr commented that Dimash used a Kazakh singing technique, called 'komeymen aytu'. Sort of like doing a yodel, but you let it clog during the upward transition. I don't know the Kazakh/Turkish/Arabic name for it. Dimash does it very rapidly. Batyrkhan Shukenov was the original lead singer for this group, A-Studio, who wrote and performed the song when Dimash was 4. Mr. Shukenov died in 2015, so Dimash added in a funeral lament to honor him. He also focused a lot on honoring the band after the song, since they were a local band that influenced him and many others. Some jazz musicians reviewing this performance have commented that besides Dimash's stunning performance, the jazz/pop group is extremely tight and the composition has all the right touches at all the right places.

For those who love Dimash, two other must see singers are Zhou Shen and Hua Chenyu from China. Zhou Shen has a high, feminine voice that often got him bullied in school. If his classmate only could have seen the talent in that voice. As an introduction into Zhou "Charlie" Shen, begin with his premiere performance on the Voice of China singing HuanYan. After this first video, move on to his versions of "Memory", and "Time to Say Goodbye". For something different from him, watch his version of "Ring the Doorbell" and "Da La Beng Ba". His biggest success is the song "Big Fish". Another singer that is highly rated is Hua Chenyu. One never knows what one will get with a Hua Chenyu song since he mixes genres and composes many of his own songs. He is an epic stage performer spilling his emotions into the audience so they can share in those emotions. He is also a master are redeveloping cover songs into his unique perspective. I have a recommendation list, but it is not really in any particular order. "Nunchucks", "Child", I am what I am", "Fake Monk", "Friend", and "Dad, I'm Home". Neither Zhou Shen or Hua Chenyu are the full package that Dimash displays, but they are both unique and special with their skills.

In musicology, a 'trill' is an oscillation between two notes, but too far apart to be called vibrato. A trill is performed in the larynx. A 'bleat' is a single note with interruptions in the flow of air through the larynx. So what is Dimash doing, exactly? My old ears aren't good enough to answer this question with certainty. But I can tell you, he starts with a trill. It's slow, and you can hear both notes. Then he speeds it up. Does he arrive at a single-note bleat, or a trill so rapid that it's hard to grasp what he's doing? That, I can't answer. Maybe someone with better ears can figure it out. Or, perhaps, someone might play back the passage slowed way down so every nuance can be heard clearly. I don't have the software tool to do that, and in any event, it's sort of an academic question. The performance is what it is - thoroughly enjoyable.
@@SkelloRo That would make it a trill, for sure. Trills *are* kind of like yodeling. Dimash's vocal control is just nuts. Did you catch 'Passione?' In the second section, Dimash gave us a staccato upward run so fast and so precise, it made no sense to my brain. Voices don't *do* that.

Haha, this song is much harder to perform as SOS and Adagio. Singing soft and low is even harder as singing loud/high. Also his 24 sec run in this song is out of this world.

In musicology, a 'trill' is an oscillation between two notes, but too far apart to be called vibrato. A trill is performed in the larynx.
A 'bleat' is a single note with interruptions in the flow of air through the larynx.
So what is Dimash doing, exactly?
My old ears aren't good enough to answer this question with certainty. But I can tell you, he starts with a trill. It's slow, and you can hear both notes. Then he speeds it up. Does he arrive at a single-note bleat, or a trill so rapid that it's hard to grasp what he's doing? That, I can't answer. Maybe someone with better ears can figure it out. Or, perhaps, someone might play back the passage slowed way down so every nuance can be heard clearly.
I don't have the software tool to do that, and in any event, it's sort of an academic question. The performance is what it is - thoroughly enjoyable.
I think other reactors with music expertise described it as register flips, kind of like yodeling, but done very very fast and controlled.

Dimash's vocal control is just nuts. Did you catch 'Passione?' In the second section, Dimash gave us a staccato upward run so fast and so precise, it made no sense to my brain. Voices don't *do* that.

Haha, this song is much harder to perform as SOS and Adagio. Singing soft and low is even harder as singing loud/high. Also his 24 sec run in this song is out of this world.
