You know it's kinda funny because I used to think I knew a descent amount about the AR-15 because I have shot and owned one for as long as I can remember. But watching you has shed some light on just how little I actually knew about manufacturing and tolerances and what can happen when those loose tolerances stack on top of each other. I obviously don't have the plethora of gauges that you have but you have taught me that there is a lot of stuff you don't need a gauge for but rather just to look very closely and carefully and perform some of the fitment test that you can without tools. Since watching your videos I now look at a bolt and carrier group completely different then I used to.
Many don’t realize that the bolt cam pin is made of a slightly softer alloy/metal so it’s considered the sacrificial part instead of causing wear on the bolt carrier. I suggest carrying a few spare small parts including a bolt cam pin, inside the pistol grip.
You've confirmed the quality of Colt products.All of my Colts have the c on carrier and the bolts are mpc and have white dot.Even my Geissele Urg-i clone complete has the correct markings on the Colt bcg.Never had any issues with them and it seems as if Geissele nano'd a Colt bcg.
can you post links in your description on where to buy some of the tools you use ex/gas key gauge can't seem to find this stuff anywhere and I don't like paying my smith $100 every time he looks at my rifle. Thanks!
Great education on every video! Audio could be a little better.... I like Robert Lamberts suggestion, make us a package to be better Armorers. I just bought the gauge last week to check firing pin length, then I see in this vid I need to get some work done to make it work. Instructor Chad takes all the guess work and dart throwing out of problem solving with his knowledge and straight forward instruction. Awesome stuff.

As of 2017 it's very very very rare to have a Stamped C on the BCG. They do an Autosign C . Very hard to see the C unlike the stamped C. The MPC Bolts are still around . Very few have that white stamp of approval on them . Now that all that stuff is going on up North . It would be freaking awesome if we could get some Diemaco/Colt Canada parts or Carbines. I really hope they can figure out how to get these imported across the border. Diemaco / Colt Canada is superior IMO to Colt Defense .
Around 5:15 you discuss the tail end of the bolt being scraped. Are you saying that the bolt being examined was over cleaned? Also, are devices like the BONE scrapers bad for cleaning the bolt and the inside of the carrier?
on some of the other vids he shows where the end of the bolt is too small and fails that test.....due to people way overscraping that area to get it super clean
Ordering several new firing pins for my HD AR-15 Thanks to the knowledge on this channel I inspected mine and it mic’d out short at .026” swapped one from a different AR-15 and it was barely under at .0275”. On that AR-15 it is an acceptable .032” So I will try swapping in new pins to find one that is in spec in my gun. I’ve never had a light primer strike or misfire with the gun in almost 1000 rounds. Thanks Chad for sharing the knowledge of AR-15s with all of us!!!
Kind of curious myself really. I’ve never heard it before here @ SOTAR. Going as far as dimpling the head for repeated positioning therefore prolonged wear in the SAME area..? Seems like “changing (even inadvertently) positions” would be more beneficial to me...BUT WDIK?

Put up a amazon affiliate links so you can get a percentage of the sales. If you do that, I guaranty I will buy it. I know I don't need all the tools you have, but 1 most of it would be fun to have. I would take your class but it's just too far for us bud. Sorry.
I’m thinking he busted his tail taking numerous readings & putting together a LOT of the parameters needed that weren’t common knowledge OUTSIDE OF a manufacturer’s typical needs for builds. My thought is Chad had a slew of tools built specifically for HIS purposes....TO learn, THEN teach. QUESTION Chad: What IF ANY differences are there BETWEEN a mil spec build VS a proprietary build that “IS BEYOND” your ability to gauge?
For extractors, do you recommend a four coil spring with an insert, or what about just using a five coil spring? I feel like I've only ever seen you install four coil with an insert
+1 on THAT question. In reading Patrick Sweeney’s ‘AR’ ‘smithing Books & Manuals, he goes into SERIOUS depth on AR’s. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANY of his stuff. As to pulling the ejectors for head spacing..he suggests the same MY question is: is it ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY? I do it too but could it actually throw the reading off THAT much?

What lube /clp do you recommend? Or do you recommend a cleaner and lube separate ?

He’s said he uses Either 4 coil colt gold or 5 coil sprinco, black insert with both (no donut....you can uses either insert or donut but not both)

Do you need to remove the ejectors to get an accurate headspace? I have always done that.
I believe that is the proper way with regular headspace gauges. My headspace gauges are modified so the bolt can be gauged completely assembled.
