- Ulvi Cemal Erkin (March 14, 1906 -- September 15, 1972) was a member of the pioneer group of symphonic composers in Turkey, born in the period 1904 - 1910, who later came to be called The Turkish Five. These composers set out the direction of music in the newly established Turkish Republic. The use of Turkish folk music and modal elements in an entirely western symphonic style, characterised these composers.
Work: Symphony No.1 (1946)
Mov.I: Allegro aperto 00:00
Mov.II: Adagio 10:07
Mov.III: Allegro scherzando 20:16
Mov.IV: Moderato - Allegro non troppo - Allegro 26:43
Orchestra: Presidental Symphony Orchestra of Turkey
Conductor: Gürer Aykal - Hudba
This is fantastic. I hadn't even heard of Erkin until today. This symphony starts off feeling like 1950s avant-garde American music, the kind the better Hollywood films were using in their scores. And then it just keeps going. For 1946, this is tremendous. Clearly ahead of its time. What a shame I'd never heard of this man before. I'm gonna take a deep dive into The Turkish Five. It sounds like there's gonna be tremendous stuff here, because so much of the 1950s symphonic music I'm familiar with feels...suddenly derivative of this work. Maybe they knew of it. I really wish I had.

did you find any? if so do you care to share it with us interested?
please gonna listen "Oratoria of the Yunus Emre" from "Ahmet Adnan Saygun" 13 part ;)
This was put up in 2013. I only discovered CZcams recordings of classical music a couple of years ago. I keep finding works I never heard before figuring that I will run out of them and can start re-listening to the ones I have found. And so this one has been added to that growing list. I don't have a sponge for a mind, therefore this wonderful work will seem like a fresh find when I get to hear it again.
Yeah I found this channel and it's insane, the amount of composers I hadn't even heard of before! I didn't know there were so many symphonies out there. It's actually kinda scary! I can't listen to all of these!

More effective than Star Wars soundtrack, more beautiful.
Her dinleyişte tüylerim diken diken. Nasıl güzel bir müzik bu🎶🎵💕
Agree with the comment below (Gilligan) on "mysterious." The work has great orchestral color (I guess, especially when the composer emphasizes wind instruments) and also energetic sections / movements. Somehow, I hear Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel as potential influences (obviously among many others). Great piece!
Wonderful music! You can find Erkin's the other music on my channel.
harika
I keep picturing the Forty Thieves plundering a city or something. Such a fun work!
WOW, KuhlauDilfeng (all channels) you come up with the most interesting, unique, and unknown (to us) works. Thank you so very very much for taking the time to find and upload these wonderful musical discoveries! Big hugs and kisses!!!!!

Great composer, all his tunes are amazing!!
Very interesting - I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this work
I've never been exposed to this composer before or heard of the The Turkish Five. This is quite excellent.
You may not want overly to discuss 'exposing yourself' on the Interweb, what with Turkey devolving into Tyrrany….and every 'hammam' in Ánkyra bidding for your bootie, pal.

@@steveegallo3384 Steve Rooster, almost all your posts are stupidly insane. How proud you are, too, of that fact.
Great work. Thumbs up.
Çok etkili müziği var Erkin’in.
Sizin de çok güzel müzikleriniz hocam😊

Thank you Civilization 5
Really? On which country?
@@melekakyap Not any particular civilization. Ulvi Cemal Erkin is one of the Great Musicians who can be generated, and this symphony is his Great Work.
This piece is so dark and intriguing, but has a lot of it's own culture. sounds like it has little bit of Sibelius and Scriabin
….and bits too of Chatchadourian, Rózsa, Rautavaara, Ravel and Prokofiev....
@@steveegallo3384 One of the notes halfway through surprised me a bit, coz I distinctly remember it was used in Elvis Presley's "Kentucky Rain"! Amazing the variety of influences(not to mention the level of b.s. in this comment I just added!🥳).
@@darrylschultz6479 -- No need to deprecate your comment....I think it's interesting! Now, when you hear "Kentucky Rain" on CZcams, does it Confirm what you Remember? Greetings from San Agustinillo!
@@steveegallo3384 Greetings from Adelaide! Yes, this composer was definitely a fan of that 37th note of Kentucky Rain! Cheers.😁👍
