We're OVER the ICW! | Going Offshore | ep 272

  • The ICW might be beautiful and definitely has it's benefits, ultimately it takes a lot more work and time than sailing offshore along the east coast of the United States. Instead of continuing north on this inland waterway we jump offshore from Savannah and spend three days sailing to Beaufort NC. This saved us 85 miles and 6-7 days of travel time.

Looked like a lovely sail. Beaufort can be pretty crowded, but it’s a nice little town. 😎🥰😎🥰😎

Man I don’t miss that timing of the tides, and unpredictable storms. When we came down the Rio Dulce, we didn’t have the map (with depths) and that was a bit stressful. Thank God for locals and their knowledge.

Might want to consider a good store of ginger bread for your snacking during passage. More nutritious and the ginger helps settle motion sickness. And the burn of good ginger in the mouth does wonders for keeping you alert at night.

@@Spoondrifters Most probably don't bother with them because they're smallish but with small fish like sardines and anchovies you don't fillet them, just gut them and cook them whole. I guess it depends on how open minded you are too unfamiliar foods. In my wife's culture all fish are cooked with the bones in, head on etc, the fish eyes get fought over and you use chopsticks to pick the fish meat away from the bones, the meat around the head of the fish is considered the best bit and this is what most westerners throw away after filleting. I've only seen one YT channel cook the flying fish and she just fried them with an egg and a tomato for a nice simple breakfast. I guess try and see if you like them, at least you know there's less risk of ciguatera with such a small fish 👍

There are electronic anti-seasickness wrist bands- run around $85-$100 each and rechargeable battery lasts around 10hrs. Somehow a tiny electric jolt to wrist nerve interferes with the confused inner ear to brain signal that causes seasickness.
