Living in Western Australia we do NOT need turtle necks, and there were a couple of turtle necks hanging around our house unloved. I zigzagged around where I wanted to cut it then turned it down and sewed it. Voila!! Round necks and now much worn - when it’s not 42 degrees Celsius 😂. Never thought of a collared look - looks wonderful!!

The trick is to test it on something you won't be heartbroken to lose. This sweater cost less than $20, so while a loss would be unfortunate, it's not like I paid a lot for it 🙂
I haven't had the courage to try steeking. I might get a sweater at the Second Hand store and try it. If it turns out to be a disaster, I will still have learned from the experience. I could barely breath when I saw someone cut and then sew a gorgeous hand-made mohair sweater, so I know it can be done. You've given me the courage to give it a go. Thanks.
Ah mohair...all that sticky sticky fabric. I can see why they'd steek it! Remember, if you sew the channel you're going to cut into (and you use a small enough stitch length), nothing's going to move when you cut those stitches 😃
Great job making it functional and pretty for you. Yes it is very 80s vibe. I steeked for the first time last month. Last year i knit a very colourful sweater as my stress knitting during the preparations for moving. Last month i turned it into a cardigan as planned and steeked the armholes. The front edge and collar are knitted but i have to do something about the front fringe now. But then i got a cold so it is back in its basket until i can handle the steek stress again.
@@MaireColclough I know. I have cut into my knitting! My fair isle knitting! That was the worst thing ever. In my closet is the body of a sweater I made in 2000. All I needed to do was steek the armholes. It never happened. I am thinking of making a pillow. My size has changed.... it is an Alice starmore Celtic pattern so it will make a nice pillow.

Lady was/is remarkable. Had the entire range - from pattern fitting to quilting (the ones that she did at the end of her life deserve a place in the Smithsonian, wow, just wow). Dudes! Humans! It turned out great! When you reinforced the cut line with your machine did you have to adjust the tension? Can you Kitchener without chanting the steps out loud? Give your growing babies lots of love from me. My senior girl was just diagnosed with lymphoma and I'm super bummed.
I'm so sorry to hear of your kitty's lymphoma! Extra pats and cuddles for that one! I didn't adjust my stitch tension, but only because my Pfaff seems to have a pretty good tension on its own. And yes...as the big bucket of sock yarn leftovers might indicate, I can Kitchener like a boss 🤣

Brilliant! I have a jumper with a similar Neckline (just with a zipper) and those are really comfy to wear. The colour of the yarn fits perfectly!
I considered a zipper! But eventually just figured I'd be better off with a little button and some bling 😉

Knitting is just making loops out of loops. Seriously, once I wrapped my brain around that, it got a LOT easier 😁

Where do you get your good sweaters? I have been on the hunt since I got back.
Penningtons / Addition-Elle and sometimes Torrid. But this sweater came from Walmart 😉
