I recently had the privilege to run into a older heavier one!
The claimed weight was 180pds but more like 220,
The face was heavily dinged and the waist was bellied out.
Worst of all the horns have sagged and one of the feet had broken off…..
But enough about me personal endeavors, this videos about anvils!!!

I love the concept of Fisher-Norris anvils which are cast iron with a crucible steel face plate. I've got 2 wrought Peter Wrights, one amazon ACCIAIO anvil which is cast steel and a Fisher-Norris.

I just ordered a whole book on Fisher-Norris anvils. Hopefully I'll be able to do a video on them soon. How does your fisher Norris compare to the others?

@@WatersIronworks It doesn't ring (saves my hearing), it has not sagged in the middle despite being made in 1903. It's a good anvil.

Drop forged anvils are good too. Hard to find. Peddinghaus used to be available.

You can't drop forge cast iron, so you know something drop forged will be steel.
In general, they will be high carbon, so yah, it's a good sign that a quality material was used.

Sir! I see my uncle ,” he got chain next to his anvil. You got chain around your anvil. Why was that. Sorry it’s silly question pls tell me if there is any reason

It makes the anvil quieter. If you have a chain wrapped around it, a magnet on it, or something hanging out of the pritchel hole when the anvil vibrates, the vibration ends faster and rings in your ears less.
