Laxmikant Pyarelal began with _Kahe Tarsaaye_ in Kalavati in the early 60's. By the 70's, their music had lost the classical touch, because the audience didn't appreciate classical music. In the same way Mehdi Hassan's classical based songs & ghazals have a dwindling proportion of the audience. In fact today many program hosts in Pakistan mock Ustad's style. Comparatively only a few knowledgeable people in Pakistan & India have deep appreciation to the extent of worshipping Mehdi Hassan, Mohd Rafi - Hariharan, Sonu Nigam, Shankar Mahadevan and younger ones like Prithvi Gandharv, Pratibha Baghel ... The unfortunate fact is most people (90%) are unable to appreciate swara, laya, taal, raag...

@ Rupelstilskin. Very true. But Lataji in my opinion, is an incarnate of Mata saraswathi herself. A person like Lataji is born once in a lifetime. More and more yugas need to pass by on this earth for another person like Lataji to be born again do that we can listen to her sweet voice and enjoy her beautiful music in my opinion. Lataji was a prodigy who could sing in more than 22 indian languages, and she could sing all different types of songs : happy ones, sad ones, slow ones, fast ones, easy ones, difficult ones, she had a vast repertoire, Lata has sung with all male singers in films with male singers such as Rafi Saab, Mukesh, mannadey, kishore Kumar, udith Narayan, Kumar sanu etc., Lataji has not only sung film songs but she has also sung beautiful hindi bhajans, Marathi abhangs, ghazals, She would've probably sung Hindustani shastriya Sangeet equally well and could've done it as well. I would say that nothing would've been impossible for Lataji to accomplish because her talent was sooo vast and impeccable. She a prodigy and a genius.

This moves me to tears! I learned Raga Malkauns as a child and Vilambat Khayal as a young adult. I was always so inspired by Lataji! I feel somehow she taught me through my various Gurus. She sang exquisitely here. Koti koti pranam Lataji! We shall never forget you 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️!
She would have started her own Gharana had she continued with Classical music. An extremely gifted artist. This is at the age of just 21 (earlier I had mentioned it as 17). See the confidence with which she sings.

It was impossible to stay in Business without that Compromise, However, She avoided it most of the time which her Sister was unable to do. @ Rupelstilskin. Very true. But Lataji in my opinion, is an incarnate of Mata saraswathi herself. A person like Lataji is born once in a lifetime. More and more yugas need to pass by on this earth for another person like Lataji to be born again do that we can listen to her sweet voice and enjoy her beautiful music in my opinion. Lataji was a prodigy who could sing in more than 22 indian languages, and she could sing all different types of songs : happy ones, sad ones, slow ones, fast ones, easy ones, difficult ones, she had a vast repertoire, Lata has sung with all male singers in films with male singers such as Rafi Saab, Mukesh, mannadey, kishore Kumar, udith Narayan, Kumar sanu etc., Lataji has not only sung film songs but she has also sung beautiful hindi bhajans, Marathi abhangs, ghazals, She would've probably sung Hindustani shastriya Sangeet equally well and could've done it as well. I would say that nothing would've been impossible for Lataji to accomplish because her talent was sooo vast and impeccable. She a prodigy and a genius.
