    Great video. I’m in the middle of bringing a barn find 1971 CL450 back to life after being abandoned in 1980. I’ve learned SO much from your videos. I’m a long time Norton and Triumph mechanic and it’s a revaluation to me how sophisticated the 450 was almost 60 years ago. I surprised to see the iron (or is it steel) combustion chamber ‘skull. Rudge did that in 1935 with bronze. Thanks for explaining each procedure so thoroughly.

    Thank you so much for posting this! My CB450's engine is on a stand and I'll be doing all of this same work soon. It will be my first time doing anything like it, and this video (and the rest in the series) will be extremely helpful!

    Quick tip: make a note of the correct position of the gear shift drum before putting the gear shift forks back. It can be done incorrectly and then you have to take the cases apart again to put it right.

    Great video, we will be expecting a thorough video on the top end rebuild. That’s where we will be needing all the detailed explanations on the intricacies of the cb450 top end. Thank you once again for taking out time to make these videos. It’s definitely some great knowledge we’ve been yearning for.

    How can a watch someone reconnect the cam chain. I’ve done it but found it very difficult. Getting the cam shafts,the cam followers and crank shaft all in the right place to reconnect the cam chain is the hardest part of working on these engines

  • @Jesse-B
    @Jesse-B Před 6 lety +2

    I was sure the OEM cam chain was continuous (no joining link) and had to be installed onto the crank before that in turn was installed.

    • @christidmas3995

  • @keithsbitsandpieces

    Make you use a proper JIS screw driver
    Why didn't you put the cam chain in first while putting the crankshaft in ?
    Also do not put oil on bolts that go into blind holes , You can hydro lock and blow the case out

    Was getting scared I was never going to see the conclusion of a build; so glad to see it’s still happening.
    So 3 bond and NO gasket is what you end up with? Or is there never a gasket in this case?

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  Před 6 lety +1

      everlasting1 three bond is what you need to seal the upper and lower crankcase halves.

    There are no good CZcams vids on that

    Why would you apply threebond to the 2 rubber oil seals? Is that really needed? Shouldn't an oil seal close the engine without a liquid sealing?

      The extra threebond insurance of it has paid off in the past.

    I'm sure you know that you are referring to an "engine" when you refer to it as a MOTOR over and over again. It's really a matter of being obsessed with the word motor. Very interesting folkloric touch. And the video is extremely well done and I have rebuilt my own Honda 450cc engine. thanks.

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  Před 4 lety

      The pump bottle is just straight engine oil. I'd say you need as far as oils and lubes go just a pumper bottle full of engine oil and engine assembly lube and you would be good.

    *You must edit this*. Guys, your intent is in the right place but WTF - Dry main and journals with no assembly lube. Have you ever had sex before? Perhaps not. But you have not seen or understand the most basic principle of an engine or it's assembly. Anyway, now go fuck grinding steel. This is not a joke. This is a possible engine seizing mistake. Just spinning the crank the way you are is making me nuts while it is dry on that pin.
    Ask, educate, or best yet recruit someone who can can help you, first. There is a young, or ideally older Honda mechanic in town who would be glad to share his experience (and the in's and out's) and get this right for all.
