The key with the metal wrapped around it is from a tinned meat or fish can. The key is attached to the top, and you remove it and attach it to a small tab on the side of the can and turn it. Spam used to have this type of opener, and some sardines still do.

That threaded pipe is a black iron pipe nipple and 1/2 of a pipe union, used to connect two pipes and/or to make an appliance removable from a gas, steam, oil or air line.
Also I was thinking maybe some people jumped in and put those items on the "shore." They didn't know what to do with the items but at at least they are out of the water way.
Love this, my favorite new channel!

Little bit of sanding, some linseed oil for the handle, some paint for the shovel head (Rustolium) with some sharpening from one of those many files you have found, and you have a usable shovel. Yep, that is a triangle file. You are correct, that is a Church Key bottle opener. That is either a small belt buckle or a strap buckle, could be either. No idea what that last piece is, never saw something like that. Might be from the railroad bridge.

Inspiring video, after being in the metal detecting for several years I'm beginning to seriously consider getting into magnet fishing as well. You should consider making a small pontoon boat with a wood deck and plastic 55 gallon barrels for floats on either side. Then add a solar battery power setup and a trolling motor and you'd be good for getting around just about any lake to go magnet fishing. The kayak or canoe is not ideal for magnet fishing because if you latch onto something too heavy it could cause you to fall over in the canoe or kayak. Best to be on a flat surface like a dock or a floating platform with a trolling motor on it. 🙂

    Per Google:
To protect their aging beers in their monasteries, the monks locked them away in lager cellars, for which only the monks had the keys. It is theorized that the openers reminded someone of these keys - either because of their shape or use - and started calling them “church” keys.

You are correct sir!! It IS called a church.key. they're called that because way back in the day church keys actually looked like that. The church keys weren't solid, just an outline, just like the bottle opener

Believe a church key was a device to open beer and soda cans before the days of pull tops'

That's true. But, before pull tabs, the key to the churchs' door was a steel rod in the rough shape of a key and hollow in the middle

It's. A key. U put on a can of food. U stick the metal in the slit. And took it along the whole can. Like a corn beef can. Or. Span can

Some food that comes in tins, Like Sardines and such, have a key to wind up a narrow strip of tin along the top to open it! Some of those are wide to take the top off the can!

The corrugated pipe was probably left over from a nearby project. Instead of throwing it out, they tossed it overboard. Yes, it’s a bottle opener, but we didn’t call that type a church key. A church key, as I learned, is hand size metal piece with a triangular end for puncturing cans, and a round end for removing bottle caps. But you can call it whatever you want.

The triangle file is used to sharpen serrated blades, old hand saws usually.

The “lanyard piece” is a how they open cans. The can has a small tab that fits into the key and you turn it to open can, if you look you will notice the metal is wrapped around the key.
A church key is the beer can opener that has pointed opener on one end and a bottle opener on the other.

I got my magnet in the winter, and I've only used it twice since everything was frozen.
However, this entire week is gonna be in the high sixties where I live, so I finally get to start magnet fishing for real :D
