The Lindsay String Quartet (or The Lindsays) was a British string quartet from 1965 to 2005.The quartet first performed at the Royal Academy of Music in 1965 to compete for a prize and set out to make the string quartets of Bartók and Beethoven the centre of their repertoire. In 1970, it changed its name from the Cropper to the Lindsay String Quartet, naming itself after Lord Lindsay, the founder of Keele University. ... In 2005, after 39 years, the quartet announced their intended retirement the following year. ...Individual members afterwards pursued separate musical ideas WIKI
Schoenberg brought me here. To think that Hadyn is virtually the creator of the string quartet format is so cool. What the moderns did with it is unfathomable; some of it is as emotionally moving as these unbelievable compositions. What a tradition.
Stuart Segan Odd thing is that Haydn (sic) quartets make great concert programming with 20th century works, better than most other 18th or 19th century composers. Two of the best concerts I’ve attended were all Haydn/Bartok, and all Haydn/Shostakovich.
I also think that the Lindsays are one of the best interpreters of the Haydn string quartets. There's another excellent version of op.74 no.3 by the Talich quartet (on my YT channel).
@@DressedForDrowning In Haydn the Amadeus quartet, the Tatrai and the Mosaïques are also quite good I think. On my channel I have also compiled some playlists of Haydn string quartets with videos from other channels.
I just found this; hadn't heard of this recording or heard The Lindsay's before. But before I saw your comment, that's EXACTLY what I thought. A Glenn Gould string quartet, where you look at every tempo instruction on a sheet of music and feed it a jolt of caffeine. ;-)
I have heard about ad-block applications, but I'm not familiar with them as I don't use them. Having said that, I prefer being able to listen to music for free on YT with commercials rather than having videos which are blocked completely because of copyright issues. But indeed having them in the middle of a piece is obnoxious, they should be at the beginning or at the end of the piece, or at least between movements.
The Ads absolutely ruined this otherwise wonderful presentation. Instead of placing them between moments, they interrupt the music and the effect is jarring and disturbing.
Merveilleux, tellement merveilleux! Merci, grand merci pour ce partage! 😍
Avec plaisir !

William Gaule 😃😃😃Ha Ha,,,👏👏
I don't know why, but I think these "Lindays" have a great approach to Haydn. IMO the best I've ever heard, and I have heard several.

@@MarcusHK1 I've seen it. There are three quartets I like: Lindsays, Talich and Alban Berg, and you have all three of them :-)

I wonder if Haydn added his own ideas regarding the dynamic accents in the manuscript scores
Wonderful!
wonderful
Thank you!
Gracias
🌻 Again, Thank You! 🌻
Is this from the first or second set of Haydn string quartet recordings by the Lindsays? In either case, it is excellent.
I didn't know that they made two sets of recordings, but anyway this was recorded in 2003.
Thansks a lot!
i dont think i have ever heard Hayden played this fast...like Glen Gould on strings....but without missing anything deep

Is that little motif in the first movement of op.74, no 1 the same one from Mozart's "Lech mich im Arsch"?

My MP4 app seems to be naughty.
ads in the middle of the piece, lovely. nothing will make people want to buy your product more!
