Braided welt stitching has been around for a long time, but not in western boots. Kudos to Holly Henry because this looks great. Heinrich Dinkelacker of Germany makes beautiful 360 degree braided welt boots and shoes. I own a pair of their Buda welted shoes and people always ask about them because they are rarely seen in the US.

That is a good looking welt stitch. I bet it will become a thing that catches on. Thanks for sharing!

Do a video on keeping the stitching clean , and one on the “infamous triple stitch”

I would definitely wear boots with that welt.

She seems to do nice work, very nice designs. I am very traditional with my designs and especially so when it comes to construction methods, but the world needs inovators too ! It makes me happy to see such smart young people entering the cordswainer trade. Welcome to the club Holy Henry ! Just as a side note 2 and 3 row sole stitching takes away from the structural integrity of the boot and makes it difficult if not impossible to have them re soled.

I was thinking there might be some water/dirt protection offered by that type of stitching. I think it looks pretty cool.

That style is on high end bespoked American and English shoes, it is a very old stitch usualy done on the welting of good year constructed shoes.

Theoretically it might make it stronger because it spreads the "weight" of the stitching across the welt because of the thick lace unlike a normal stitch that doesn't spread the "weight."
However, because it's only on the welt and not on the outsole it might be the same or weaker because there's less stitching.
I'm only making slightly educated guesses though so I'm not sure.

It also adds a bit of waterproofing so I'm interested to see how it performs on that end as well

Very nice - I love it!

I think it is more of a cosmetic stitch, just because it doesn’t change the density of the stitching on the welt. And after a certain point of density, it’s more a sign of quality and kinda “overkill.”

Looks awesome, I really wonder how it holds up.

Me too. It's also a bit more water resistant so it not just for looks either

Absaloutly beautiful just like the maker. Too bad she is in New York, or good maybe, I won't ever set foot there or buy anything built there if I can help it.
