Martina Hingis is as talented as she is beautiful. She’s got to be one of the Top 5 DOUBLES PLAYERS EVER. Some say she’s not super polite. I’m still a big fan. Her tennis is amazing and she’s a petite little thing competing against big strong women. She’s one of the most gifted player EVER. She was #1 in the world in singles AND doubles as a 16-year old!!! Wta4hand Clijsters has nothing to do with those players though-I think they’re talking about players who were at the top but considered counterpunchers/underpowered. Hingis was certainly able to dictate besides being underpowered by taking the ball early and constructing a point. She was certainly better than that trio.
Clijsters is in another category. She certainly had variety but was such a superior athlete and ball striker, she beats Hingis and all three others when she’s at her best, without question.

In my opinion Hingis hit the ball harder and with deeper and better placement when she was #1 and much younger. She was able to match by taking the ball so early and redirecting against the big hitters. Her forehand was much weaker around this time and she became much more defensive. What she never lost was her touch and her mental brilliance.

Ding Joson honestly though 2006 was kind of transition year for the tour, with Clijsters retiring and the Williams sisters’ injuries/lack of play and the Serbians were not yet in full flight, so Hingis came back playing very smart counterpunching tennis and did well. It’s amazing how many matches you can win just by being extremely solid back then...while I was surprised she did so well so soon, on one hand I wasn’t surprised. Her singles comeback was one of the more exciting ones I can think of in the open era. I know the cocaine thing at the end of 2007 was awful and hurt her pride a little and caused her to leave tennis again, but I mean we all make mistakes...I wish she could have stayed on tour and been competitive at least another 2-3 years. I say that because her serve was considerably slower than some of her rivals of her generation...but at least we got a doubles comeback...and a she actually played singles a few times in Fed Cup and got to play the Radwanska sisters if I remember correctly.

@@sheezamann2724 Mauresmo and Clijsters were both perfect players when it comes to the technique. Yes, they stopped Hingis' domination, because they had more power and that was determining factor, but you mustn't insult them by saying such reckless things. These two women have showed for many years beautiful shot matking, great net play and court feeling. Maybe not all of these skills were as good as Martina's ball feeling and on court anticipation, but it wasn't just the rough force in their game that made them so excellent. Williams sisters are much closer to your definition of "destroying the game", but I still would be careful about considering them as not-well-techincally playing. Agressive with great finenesse, ball and court feeling, net play, anticipation, defense, counterattack and simply everything that comes to my mind. Comparing with 2006 performance from Hingis maybe even Aga from 2012, end of the 2015, etc. was better, but she was never capable of putting enough power and consistency to her A-game, so she never won a Grand Slam in that period of time.
