  • These revered recordings should be admired and known to all who like Magyar Nota, Hungarian Chanson. They are known to all the musicians who play the style as being the bible for all bracs players.
Hanko Ferenc (bracs) and Boros Lajos (violin) were touring in Holland in the 60s I believe. The story goes that this recording happened in someone's home, after a concert. The musicians had been drinking a little and gotten into an argument. Boros claimed, that Hanko would not be able to "follow him" accompany him well, if he couldn't see his bow arm. Hanko and Boros stood back to back and played this wonderful music.
I got to know this recording thanks to Koen Decauter but in the version he had, the whole sound was badly distorted. As these recordings are so revered, every self respecting Gypsy musician in Budapest has a copy of it. None of them are as good as this one here. It came to me from a collector of Hungarian music, mostly Magyar Nota, called Edely Pitios. He got it directly from the man who, thank goodness, had a Revox tape recorder and had the presence of mind to record this music miracle which in it's turn, is responsible for making me want to go to Budapest to try to comprehend the mysteries of this style.
