Butterfly technique is one of the most difficult in swimming. Body movements in butterfly are crucial, they will help you to swim through the water like a dolphin if you do it correctly. For everyone, it is hard to start learning to swim butterfly. This is why, you are going to learn it step-by-step. Firstly, you need to set up one technical element and only then move forward to the next one.

What is the most important technique element for you when you swim butterfly?
Great video. I think the kick timing is important to get right up early on
My most important technique element is doing at least 100 yd of body dolphin to feel the water, work on forward propulsion using both the up and down kicks. Timing the body dolphin to the arm pull . I often take my last 25 yd swimming slow fly allowing myself to feel the rhythm, to work with the water instead of fighting it, to feel the timing and to see my orientation in the water relative to the surface. This slow fly length often coincides with the last 30 seconds that the pool is open--I always emerge from the water wishing that I'd done more slow fly before that last 25. I don't do much dry land exercises aside from going through the arm motion of fly stroke and the arm motion of backstroke before jumping into the pool. For an old guy of 61, I'm flexible enough. I don't swim for speed--I swim for technique and if speed happens, so be it.
Great! If you have any questions about the technique, you can ask me anytime!
In my opinion the correct timing between arm and leg strokes are very important.
Great land exercises. Flexibility is a goal to butterfly.
I watched many videos on the butterfly. This video is the best. I'm 73. Three months ago I decided to learn butterfly by using CZcams. I was told my butterfly looks like a toad sinking in the water and a Latino compared my mariposa to a Tortuga swimming despacito! After feeling comfortable with this stroke, I had a lifeguard to take a video of my butterfly. The arms and head look rather good, but my legs were set too much apart! It was a defect easy to correct. However, because of my age, I will never have the speed of a professional, but I'm feeling smug about my butterfly even the family was surprised--they thought I would never make it. I told them it's never too late to teach an old dog a new trick!
NOTE: My motto is the following: If you want to beat Covid-19 swim the butterfly in the magical environment that is salt water.
Well done!.I'm disabled 45 female myself and I know this year I'm gonna learn butterfly 😁 4 months ago I could not swim at all due stiffness in my joints now water helped me to relax and stretch.
Easily the best butterfly explanation I've come across
That you are showing a young, energetic swimmer. You will show the capabilities and success of a 50-60 year old swimmer in this discipline and with this style. It would be very educational.
I love that almost a scientific approach to swimming. The way you explain is really catching to me.
One of the best videos I’ve seen for butterfly tips 💯
SAME.
Thank you for the wonderful explanation
Best of the best butterfly demo I ever seen,
Thank you Michael!

Thank you for your feedback! Nice to hear that! Enjoy your swim!
Thanks. Great presentation and content. Alexander is also a great swimmer and demonstrates the stretches, drills and stroke really well.
Thank you!
I think most important things in swimming butterfly is that
Body position and body movement leading by head and shoulder !
thanks for your great video I have ever seen before !
Thanks a lot for the dryland exercises!
Nice video!! Well explained!!
3:55 If I can do this warm up exercise i'd probably be an expert in butterfly already. He makes it look so easy but it's super hard for an amateur :D Nice video though ;)
Wow!! I want to swim butterfly like you! Moving distance is amazing !!!!!!
Thank you!
I initiate the spinal wave by snapping the head. Skaters, surfers, dancers, and martial artists etc initiate spins and turns by first turning the head. The rule we use is body follows head. This loads the fascia of the torso which is then unleashed with a whipping snap. There is no ( slow and fatiguing) muscle contraction, only fascia stretching and release.
Love this videos so helpful for begginer like me 🙌🏼🤩
Fantastic prep stretching demonstration.
nice to be young!
This video is best for learning butterfly

Amazing video , so many intricate tips .
Что вы показываете молодого энергичного плавца. Вы покажите, возможности и успехи 50-60летнего пловца в этой дисциплине и этим стилем. Это было бы очень познавательно.

One of the most informative video ... Thank you so much
Good video, but for a bit of constructive criticism.. The guy demonstrating pauses too long at the entry of the hands. The hands entry should time with the down kick so he can immediately begin his next stroke. The legs have too much of a pause, especially at the end of the up kick which means the timing between the arms and legs is off.
Youre right, but this video made for beginer,so i think they supposed to seperate it to long stroke. After doing all this good, you can easily build up to the speed like athletic that you mentioned about
Wow!Fantastic video.it is very useful for beginners.
Thanks you
지상 연습 영상 좋네요.
Спасибо за видео!!
мне очень помогло.
awesome..best one. I will take your advice-dry land exercise.. thank you
John Mar Thank you!
Do you have a video for the free swimming style return technique and dolphin ?Thank you
Love these video’s!!
Fantastic, thank you!
Great video! I find that I'm ok at doing the kicks and body movement. The arm pull is ok, but find the recovery of the arms over the top of the water difficult and most difficult is the timing of the kicks and arm pulls. Any drills/exercises you can show to help with that would be appreciated. Thanks for the videos!
Hey Matt, in the 4th video, I will explain hands return and breathing, so it should help a lot. Also, there will be some exercises
Fantastic video
I did not find any mention of the head position during the stroke.Have you covered it elsewhere?
Awesome
I enjoyed watching video. I realized how hard it really is to perform the butterfly. You have to be fit and flexible. I have to do some dryland exercises to improve my flexibility and my strength.
Hey Terry, exactly! Flexibility is one of the most important!
Amazing technique 👍

My hand not come up
And water is rising very high
The best advice I ever got for this stroke was: "Just Imagine you're humping the water"
Hi, I’m struggling because my back is tight
