Hello one and all, and welcome to the first video from new, improved, formerly Not £2 Grand channel that is, Pollitt's Projects. The goal here? Buy old cars that should probably be scrapped and instead, try and save them. The first one being this, my newly acquired 2000 Daimler 4.0 V8.
Parked since 2016, and with a known propensity for rot, this was not a wise purchase. Emphasised further by the fact it doesn't even run. However, just look at it. How could I scrap that beautiful face? I have to give it a chance, right?
In this first video, I explain the origins, the plan and I give it a 'mercy wash' so my neighbours don't hate me. Enjoy!
Filmed and edited by the incredible Mark Taylor-Hankins @inksharkman

How can a channel with barely 10.000 subs have such nice filming and montage? It’s great to have a found a new CZcamsr who cares for the underdog cars. And it’s a nice bloke, fixing his cars on his driveway, even caring about his neighbours. What a gem, immediately subbed ✅
Thanks Chris, keep up the good work! Really looking forward to your future video’s and I hope to someday watch those hubcaps pop into place 👍🏼

I had to replace the following, fuel pump & filter. some fuel line, washed the tank out, all the cooling hoses as they started to burst as i started it up. all ignition components, new rad as oilcooler side had leaked mixing auto transmission fluid.flushed gear box, got gears now.next job sought out the brakes calipers, I getting there and hopefully so will you .

Great video on a beautiful car and delivered in a witty and entertaining manner.
I'm just coming to the end of restoring my '02 XJ8 sport. All the same issues with corrosion, waist seals, suspension bushes, paintwork, etc now sorted and I can testify that it was absolutely worth it. Nothing else on the road quite like these last of the steel bodied XJ, x308s.
I don't subscribe to the oft repeated view that the AJ16 engined cars are better either. When one considers the various developments and varied use of these engines over the last 20 years and the fact that those that really know them reckon that when those much publicised early issues were dealt with, these were a pretty much bullet-proof motor, then I'd take the more muscular and sophisticated AJ26/27 every time.
I can't wait to see how the journey goes - subscribed 😁

I too have a project car, and, I have to admit, it is a Mercedes Benz…a 300CE 124 Coupe from 1989 with a similar story to your Daimler. I have ran two of the XJ6 cars, both for 190K miles on the straight six engines and for 11 years each before trading them in as I was using them for business and motorway miles. Now I have a 4.2 V8 XKR and if the V8 have regular water check and oil changes they should do very high mileage. Only issues I saw was crankshaft position sensor which stopped the engine firing and the headlight wiring in the wings is very fine and sometimes they need new wires running. They are great cars and I don't think you will be disappointed. Sometimes the alloy rear bumper mounts can corrode and need changing and the rear subframe mounts on one car needed changing. Enjoy it.

I bought a 72000 mile Daimler LWB V8 same as yours via online auction for £5K. I thought that was cheap but £700!, although you have considerably more work to do than I had. Mine needed some TLC. I’ve serviced it, given the interior a deep clean and sorted numerous minor issues. I still need to renew the headlining and upgrade the timing gear you mentioned. The car is an absolute dream to drive. Wonderfully smooth, powerful and comfortable especially over today’s poor road surfaces. The gearbox is “sealed for life” in name only. It’s well worth changing the oil and filter to prolong its life. These are beautiful cars. (Subscribed)

Its lasted too, expecting it to die a cheapness early death but just finished blasting the moss from outside on the path and windowsills giving the windows a good blasting as well on the flat.

I recently had the pleasure & pain of borrowing my friends Super V8 in the same colour.
The pleasure was its a lovely thing to drive, that very very much got out of its own way when right foot was extended!
The pain was fuelling it, but for a couple of days it was a wafty joy (total opposite to my own stable of vehicles!)
Though with that one having replacement wings in a notably different shade of Decadent Blue/Green I couldn't shake the feeling when driving it that I was "going on holiday by mistake" (I'm aware that was a Jaaaag Mk11 but still)

All the best with this project! These really are great cars once nurtured back to health and it's well worth spending even a few grand to restore.
You're almost certainly correct to suspect the fuel pumps having failed. Note I used the plural there: the Supercharged version has two - I'm not sure about the non-Super model. And, yes, removing the tank is a pig of a job. What seems to happen is that the pumps get clogged up with "congealed" petrol - that happened in mine having only stood for three months over winter... And that's another thing: like Rollers these cars need to be driven regularly to keep 'em healthy.
The hole you discovered under the floor is a typical corrosion spot on these cars: my 2001 model had the same issue... and you'll probably find it will need welding around bits of the front subframe too.
Another common-ish issue is the door mirrors having a mind of their own. You can be driving along and they suddenly start repeatedly folding in and out of their own accord. That's caused by the weather sealing failing in the driver's door leading to the switch panel's myriad electrical connecters getting shorted out by (rain)water.
It looks as though the headlining in the back is drooping: "They ALL do that, sir".
Engine-wise these cars are pretty "bomb-proof" in my experience, with appropriate servicing, of course.

    1. This project will be interesting.
    2. You need an outside tap, power supply and a decent pressure washer.
    3. Show me in the boot and all the little Cubby's. These kind of cars have loads of hidden compartments.

Watching with great jealousy from Ireland where a powerful wafty barge like would cost you 2000 euro just for road tax. Looking forward to this journey

This is such a well made video, properly professional like! Love the car Chris and really looking forward to the episodes that follow. Champagne motoring for lemonade money.......am I the first to use this obvious cliche? Good luck with the channel, top man..

Great video! I was hoping you’d be making some after watching the Rover 800 videos and seeing you bought this Daimler 👍🏻

The Daimler is lovely. There was once someone at my work who drove a Morris Ital which was completely green/brown with moss and mould. The only clear areas were the window glass and lights. It was difficult to see what the original colour was, but you probably wouldn't want to know because BL chose some monumentally awful colours for its run of the mill cars, probably influenced by the colour scheme of the cells in Porridge. This thing was still pottering around at least ten years ago and for all I know it may still be on the road.

Good hunting. Sir you are like me when I had eyesight. I will subscribe and look forward to this and other mad projects. Mine? Extremely rusty 944, dead 3 year abandoned LS400, an Esprit that was dragged out of a burning barn. The list goes on. No more....

Love the car, and love the t-shirt! I actually saw the band of the same name in London back in ‘99/‘00, and really loved their ‘It Means Everything’ album. 😊

Jags are cool, but Daimlers are so much cooler somehow.
Can't wait to see this one play out. Good luck with it all.
Liked, subscribed and alarm button thingy smashed! 💪👍
