  • We're moving on to a super exciting part of the Midtown Overhaul reveal tour! Welcome to the hub of the house, the centre of all the action: It's the dining room and kitchen! After 30 years of cooking and entertaining in these spaces, my clients were ready for change. So I set out to reimagine, reconfigure and revitalize what turned out to be two of the biggest transformations in the entire house! In the dining room, I'll show you the importance of budgeting for ambient lighting and how to embrace the power of paint to create the ultimate panelled backdrop for contemporary furniture. Plus, you'll learn how to piece together a kitchen renovation plan that checks all the boxes on your wish list. For our clients, that meant a powerhouse peninsula, loads of open space to create incredible flow, two seating groupings, multiple work surfaces and stations, and tons of natural light. As far as makeovers go, this reveal episode is dramatic and bound to become one of your favourites!

@@JG-ve4rg In an open concept design, it is too simplistic to state that function always comes before form. When you spend tens of thousands of dollars to update the look and feel of a room, you want a space that looks nice. This fridge design is too busy and ruins the sightlines of the room. You can still have a nice looking fridge that is useful.

The transformation of these two spaces reminds me so much of the transformation of the Rental kitchen and dining room.... and I love it!!! The lighting is really beautiful; I particularly like the peninsula pendants. Do they come from the same collection as the dining room chandelier? They cast so much soft light. The kitchen floor is swoon-worthy. Is it heated?. The only layout change I would make would be to flip the sink and the range. It's always bothered me to have my back to the room while I'm cooking. So agree about dish drawers. As a family of two, we've had Fisher-Paykel drawers for 15 years and I absolutely love them.

I think that painting the paneling makes me notice it vs pulling away from it when it was dark. I love it!

“You know that I’mmm gonna paint it”....I’m with you Sarah. The workmanship of the design is still there but so much lighter and fresher looking. Don’t ever put down that paintbrush. Lol
