That was the lid for a water mine. Mark XIV British Naval Mine.. A 1920s design with either a 320 lbs. (145 kg) or 500 lbs. (227 kg) charge and Hertz horns. When switch horns were developed this mine became the Mark XVII.Mark XVII
Similar to the Mark XIV but with a larger belt. Used 11 switch horns and could be laid in waters up to 500 fathoms (915 m) deep. Available charges were 320 lbs. (145 kg), 450 lbs. (204 kg) or 500 lbs. (227 kg). This was the standard British contact mine of World War II. In 1949, 14,933 were in storage.

GEC, General Electric Co, became GEC Marconi when they took on Marconi Underwater Systems Limited (M.U.S.L.) and vastly increased their subsea portfolio.

The second I saw that round thing you pulled up, I said is that a land mine? Then you said you thought it looked like one. I wonder what the letters stand for? It cleaned up really well. What wonderful things you both pulled up.

The letters G E C on the top of your "land mine", may be the General Electric Company, so its likely to be a hanging light fitting that would have a large Glass down underneath, housing a very big lightbulb.

GEC did manufacture military stuff during the war years but never any land mines and from my military knowledge I've never seen a landmine like that all. More likely an industrial light fitting with a hanging ring on it.

I am wondering if the "Lego" pieces are feet for scaffolding? The rectangular hole in them could have been for tying them together for stabilization?
GEC is General Electric Company. That just doesn't look like a landmine to me. Possibly a sea mine with the loop to anchor it to a weight, but that makes little sense to me, with the GEC on it. I am thinking more of a possible transformer casing or a pressure vessel. The 2 possible drain/fill holes stump me though.
