    I would like to see more tea tastings with george! I think he is a very relatable and sweet person :) Also I feel like he encapsulates a pretty decent number of the general viewership by being quite into tea but not knowing every in and out to the fullest (which might make him so relatable)

    You hit on my spot in the tea journey. I am new and can't taste all the notes and things you talk about , but during the last week I find myself using terms creamy and bright when talking about a new tea. I am just feeling it naturely coming to me. Learning the body feelings the different teas give me. It just takes time to learn. There is so much to learn But so far my favorite tea is Jade 5 . Love it. And my passion has already spread to several co-workers. I have my tea set for gung-fu brewing for work and the people under me smile when I break it out. They say I'm more mellow soon as I start brewing. :)

    Great video, your mentioning of how Puerh farmers focus much more on sensation instead purely on flavour resonates with me. I rarely can make out destinct aromas like white chocolate or facecream. On the other hand broader flavour notes like zestyness or malty sweetness I do get, but especially with raw puerh it is much more how it makes me feel, which dictates the level of enjoyment I get from the tea.

    Just finished my 15th infusion of Jade Star 4 and wondering if I should simply add more leaves or start a whole new session. Interesting how I can identify changing aroma profiles (and a few distinct smells) yet am only able to identify a dominant flavour if that. I love Mei Leaf tea especially those with a noticeable Cha Qi which helps placate my PTSD+. It's gone 1 am here in South Australia. Any other Teaheads nearby? I'm new to tea drinking so any help appreciated. Cheers, Al

    I have a very similar experience with ripe puer. I like them but to me they all taste quite similar, I mostly just get the earthy flavour which I really enjoy but it's very hard for me to get the other aromas. I don't have that problem with any other kind of tea.

    Your explanation of the abstract approach to tasting reminds me of something a whiskey tasting channel (Whiskey Vault) mentioned about the difference between a more left-brain or right-brain approach - ie., trying to analytically pin down flavour notes, or alternatively, letting your brain suggest flavours based on past memories. They compare how when you're trying to remember someone's name and you have it on the tip of your tongue, compared to when you just think of someone and their names comes straight to you.

    I’m glad I’m not alone being a bit confused by my very limited experience of raw puerh. I have only tried two, neither are from Mei Leaf. I think from those I know what that basic taste is that they’re describing, but I don’t know if I like it. It reminds me of the smell of Henna that you use to dye your hair. The bitterness/astringency is definitely strong until about the 5th infusion. I keep trying them to convince myself I like them, but I don’t think I actually do haha. Maybe I’ll try the A-B test and/or purchase one from Mei leaf to compare. I have a lot to learn but also I’m ok deciding I just don’t like something.

    Hmm :) I had an issue with the Night Forest Muse. I just risked it and bought the whole cake. And after I tasted it I thought to myself: "Well, I can get much better pu erh teas for less price." Mostly it reminded me japanese green teas. I got some edamame flavor, some not specified warm notes, maybe little bit citrus notes and a bit of sweet fruitiness - it reminded me specific candies that I was having when I was young (It was in an egg shape plastic packaging with little figure and pack of candies inside - and the taste of that cnadies was difficult to identify. It had something like a hint of strawberry base note. If that taste would be a color, it would have to be pink definitely. So afterwards it comes on my minde: "Well, at least something..." Also some rubber (but there are teas which are more like rubber - I call it a pacifier taste :) ) and little bit if bitterness. Now to the point - yesrerday I tried to be more relaxed and focused when having Night Forest Muse and I tasted it little bit different way. I came across a video about tasting tea and the guy sipped it and left it in his mouth for quite long time - and it definitely makes difference. I got more of the bitterness. "Oh, there it is :)" I was thinking. And afterwards it really came the sweetness. So it was quite pleasant. And today I tried taste the same way another of my pu erh teas, which was Yiwu Xiaowei Gushu 2018 and it seemed to me more rough and not as interesting. :-/ So finally I am confused. It seems that the way you drink tea makes also a big difference. As well as water quality (hard water - warmer notes, but missing aftertaste). So tasting pu erh teas - very difficult. Not like drinking Mi Lan Xiang Dancong :D

    I love how everyone has different tastes. All these teas are fantastic but - Dream Scene Smuggler vs Canopy Flasher? Dream Scene Smuggler was my fave. Pollen Provider vs Calamansi Swooper? Pollen Provider hands down! Pollen Provider vs Dream Scene Smuggler??? DSS takes the win! Not that it doesn't stand on it's own but DSS's minerality reminds me a little of Night Forest Muse which I adore. It was the first loose leaf tea I ever tasted and I will never forget that memory

    Hey
    I have one question. Often times I see people brewing puerhs doing really fast steepings, like 3 seconds, later 5 and up to 10 and later after 5th infusion they make it just a little longer. I do it this way too because it's convenient to me while studying when I don't have much time to wait between steepings.
    Do you recommend this method and in what situations you would brew like this or your method with longer steepings?

    Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm relatively new to pu-erh, but if this is a 2019 Raw pu-erh, what actually makes it a pu-erh if it hasn't aged/fermented yet? Isnt it basically just a compressed green/black tea?

    • @mario7027
      @mario7027 Před 4 lety +2

      A fresh raw puer which hasn't aged yet is indeed somehow similar to green tea, but with an additional layer of flavour and power due to various factors such as the age of the trees, the terroir, the different varietals of the tea plant, different pick of leaves, etc.
