  • Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF party suffered a heavy defeat to a newly formed opposition party in parliamentary and municipal by-elections held over the weekend. The Citizens’ Coalition for Change party claimed 61% of the vote in local government elections in several urban and rural municipalities. We talk to Jasper Mangwana from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission about the vote and how it went. #DStv403

First of all, congratulations to CCC for doing well in the just gone by elections. As a Zimbabwean, I want the best for my country, however, sometimes I feel we shoot ourselves in the foot sometimes. First of all, can someone please point out to me how unfair are the laws and regulations surrounding voting i8n Zimbabwe? Secondly, if CCC were able to beat Zanu PF, can someone explain to me how this is possible when there is allegations that Zanu PF and the Government work together to rig elections. Lastly my , a disclaimer: I do not currently know the constituencies that held elections but if what I hear is correct, my observation is :In the Urban areas elections are won by the opposition, the by elections were for for areas that were formerly held by MDC alliance. Therefore, if Zanu PF gained one or two or three seats in this case, then the winners of these by-elections were CCC and Zanu PF. Of course CCC beat Zanu PF but I think the latter has reason to celebrate as well if my supposition is correct

      1. Zanu pf bagged some seats from opposition since all vacancies where available from the opposition strongholds.
      2. Opposition getting 61% of the seats will give credibility to ZEC.
      3. Even though Zanu pf did not get the majority seats, they got the majority votes which is what they need come next year.

These elections were in opposition stronghold and now ZANU PF has won 2 seats in cities. Seats it hasn't seen in 20 years. The margins of loss in most cities were much lower truth is if a general election was to be held ZANU PF would likely retain it's 2/3 majority in parliament and would also win presidential vote with a bigger margin. Don't mislead people please.

My fellow countryman, who suffered defeat here? Mwonzora suffered defeat, not Zanu PF. Zanu PF won seats from the opposition party (MDC). The way people analyse things is the reason why people get heartbroken. Zanu PF is a strong party, that cannot be defeated through media rhetorics. Zanu PF knows groundwork.

I thought voting out Zanu 😜 is to vote out sanctions. 🤷‍♀️
Zimbabweans must have a way of being free from sanctions, by all means.
It seems promising, but they (Zimbabweans) could have done better. 🤞

The only way of being free from sanctions is to neutralize the power of sanctions. Do for yourselves Africans. Why do you want to appease the people that need you more than you need them?
