Stingy Carol traveled on the Northern Transverse Highway for three days and two nights.
On the first day, we visited the scenic spots in Jiaoxi: Houdongkeng Waterfall and Paoma Ancient Trail. The two scenic spots are similar, but the whole journey of Paoma Ancient Trail takes too long, so we will return after walking halfway. In addition, there are more monkeys on the ancient trail recently, so everyone should pay attention to each other. Houdongkeng Waterfall is said to be the top of the waterfall in ten minutes and is a good place to cool off in summer. Lunch was at Songsan Chicken in Yuanshan, Yilan. It was a long way to go and the roast chicken required reservations (but we still had to wait for a long time). It felt a bit like it was advertised. Mingchi Forest Recreation Area, I visited 14 years ago, is now taken over and operated by Lili Group, and the rooms have been renovated. There were a lot of group guests and there were not enough cleaning staff. The staff at the villa kindly upgraded us to a cabin in the forest. Thank you very much. Dinner and breakfast are quite rich. I was touched that the guests at the villa were considerate of the lack of staff. Everyone took the initiative to sort and put away the plates, and wiped the table clean before leaving. I was very moved.
The Lala Mountain National Forest Recreation Area was reopened in April this year. The visitor center is bright and clean and provides meals, which is great. Although three of the 24 trees fell down, the route was clear and the trail engineering staff worked really hard. Thank you all.
The trip to the Baling Tunnel on the third day was also an eye-opener, especially the replica of the Baling Railway Bridge in front of the No. 2 Tunnel was very ingenious, and the staff’s dedication was admirable.
