This was an epic crystal pocket; this part is the final depths of the pocket where I found many of the largest crystals. Music by Multicast made for this video. @multicastband (IG) @obliqrecordings (IG)
I found a large 45 lbs chunk of quartz crystals and carried it down the mountains. The interesting thing is when I left it on the side of the house, a bird, rabbit and group of toads were sitting and hiding around it. So I'd say the animals were attracted to it.
@@thinquinox415 well you just follow trails of quartz pieces and you have to be in a good geological spot. A lot of places got quartz stone but not crystals. Quartz stone is ok though. If you put a quartz to your head you can feel a tingling. That's my secret lol
I recently found some stuff, Pikes Peak batholith that had this exact same coating on it and did repeated muriatic acid baths followed by using a Dremel tool with a buffing wheel on it. Little by little, the very hard mud crust did yield. The results in my case were Crystal Clear quartz, undamaged, right down to the original etching and pocketing left by the mud. Took about a month, but the Smokies came out perfectly euhedral and etched. Great finds!! Love your Channel!
Thanks for your story and details. I did clean up one crystal similarly to see what it would take, but you could tell and it was a lot of work, I actually like them, but maybe I'm biased because I also dug them :)
@@obliqrecordings I have a thing for the weirdos that have neat crusts and secondary and tertiary growth as well. Looking forward to a time when Gem and Mineral show Community will embrace weird Coatings and overgrowth just for the Aesthetics as well. I have some laser-sharp etched obsidian black Smokies that are wrapped in a kind of marbleized secondary growth courts that are amongst my absolute favorite find ever. They look like perfect Joe Doris Smokies wrapped in a hug of whitish pink marble. Very beautiful
Really enjoyed this series! Great work. I’m new to the front range and doing my research. Going to start to prospect soon! If I find a pocket with crystals half this size I’ll be thrilled. Nice work
glad you uploaded the second and third parts! that's the pocket of a lifetime, I've never found anything that big. are you on instagram at all? that's where I post my extraction videos and finds.
I know this post is old but need advice; on my property quartz is everywhere, huge white quartz rocks, medium piles of white quartz and small pieces everywhere. You can’t put a shovel in the ground without hitting quartz. I’m In the piedmont area of NC. How would I go about deciding where to dig for crystals? Thanks in advance.
I've seen massive white quartz areas with no crystals. I've seen them with crystals in veins between the massive quartz. Look for flat crystal sides on any rocks, even one flat side is evidence of crystalization.
Im in Piedmont also Cleveland co area property has a small stream and I've found some pretty cool pieces , but after seeing this i can't wait to dig even though it was 25° when I got up lol.
@@obliqrecordings Cool cheers for the advice! IV been fossiking at Ewingar recently where massive crystals have been found and have found a few small pockets containing small crystals.... Also just wondering if it is typical they are found in the orange, white or green clay? I'm working in decomposed granite, rich in feldspar and mica. Also could you recommend any online resources with info relating to the subject? Thanks again
As you saw in part 1, i found "signs" on the surface, then dug around and down and followed the quartz from there. When I found no more crystals, quartz or pegmatite in a certain direction , I focused on another direction. That's how I know it was all done, no crystals or signs in any direction
I see what you described, however I'm thinking that is just the feldspar or maybe quartz. I'm not aware of anyone finding opal in this type of pegmatite.
I typically don't polish them, to clean I start with soapy water and toothbrush. Sometimes cleaning them will turn out uglier than leaving alone, so I make that judgement, and if I clean the quartz is usually coated with iron-based minerals and I use Super Iron Out product.

Okay
But do you have any secrets on How to find some?

I love the crystal dig, Awesome finds..BUT the music is so freaking soothing. Keep it coming👌🏾💫🤎

Nice video! But somehow while digging, you also need to be aware of those collapsing soil!

Good luck, it really involves a lot of luck!
Some really nice big pieces. The Japan law twin is fantastic
Thank you, they are so much fun to find!
Cool tunes with your vids man. Could you show us what they look like after an acid bath?

Yes, @obliqrecordings
great finds, great song!
Very nice findings!!!
Quartz crystals come in all.shapes and sizes, it never gets old!
In my front yard theres always small qaurtz
Thats awesome!!
I love crystals a lot too
Hi
One time I found some good sized white and clear with sparkles that were beautiful quarts crystals
Those are huge. Maybe one day around devil's Head I'll find something like that
My uncle used to say if crystals are damaged like that that they are striked by lightning 🌩.
Really great video series and I love the music! Keep up the amazing work!
Appreciate the feedback! I just need to get out and find more pockets! This spring is the target!
Insane 🏆🤙
So much fun!!

Hi, can i find quartz right just on ground? I found small raw quartz looking stone on my backyard and im assuming it is
Yeah but the pocket is under the ground near the quartz you found if it is natural
Nice finds, just for interests sake did the pegmatite stop when the crystals did or did it keep going?
The peg continued but the crystals stopped. Often they open up again if you keep following the peg!

@@jojomarino7327 Here, the clay pockets are typically rust red, but sometimes can be an iridescent purple!
I'm subscribing
Thank you!
Do you have crystal fever yet? Watching these videos makes me want to head to the mountains!!!
Do you sell any??
Ok I subscribed 😍😍😍
Hi nice finds
They certainly were, thx!
So how did you find the pocket itself?

Hey there! I live in ALabama. Do you think I could find crystals like this where I live too? ty in advance
Check out rockhounding books for your area. I've never been to your area so I don't know.
Oh wow 😮😅❤❤❤❤
I love quartz🤩
How can you not, especially when it is so fun to dig these buried treasures!
Yeah!😀🤩
Where did you find them??
Hey mate, just wondering how deep was the pocket?
started about 4 inches and at the deepest probably 2 feet
At 3:50 your camera is centered on 2 maybe half inch light blue circles, looks like Opal maybe??
I see what you described, however I'm thinking that is just the feldspar or maybe quartz. I'm not aware of anyone finding opal in this type of pegmatite.
I wanted to ask can i find quartz in my backyard
Quartz is the most abundant mineral so probably yes, but crystals are somewhat rare
@@obliqrecordings ok thanks, do you have any tips to find quartz
Is this in colorado?
Yes
Where can I find these in Minnesota?
What do you use to clean and polish the crystals?
I typically don't polish them, to clean I start with soapy water and toothbrush. Sometimes cleaning them will turn out uglier than leaving alone, so I make that judgement, and if I clean the quartz is usually coated with iron-based minerals and I use Super Iron Out product.
@@obliqrecordings good to know. Thank you for the response!
Where is this?
Howdy, this was filmed in Colorado
Oh and I am going to dig for quarts crystals too😄😄😄😊😊😍😍😗😘😙😚❤💋👄💞
