- "Who better than a pair of obscure, quirky comedians to bumble our way into first contact with an alien species? At least we’ll be able to laugh about it when we make the inevitable missteps."
As always, thanks to Isaac Arthur and the SFIA team for the inspiring theme!
Based on the SFIA theme: "Dumbest Alien Invasions"

About Rowe Writes: • Introducing: Rowe Writ...
About this project: I am writing a weekly sci-fi story to the theme of Isaac Arthur’s SFIA videos. It’s a crazy challenging timeframe to create a good short story in, and to do so publicly is even more daunting. I’m just hoping some good stories come out of this, I have fun writing them, and most importantly, the audience enjoys!
Thanks for stopping by!
(Neither this channel nor this video are affiliated with or endorsed by Isaac Arthur or SFIA; the author’s just a big fan)
I can't wait for story about astronauts finding tons of minted alien gold bars orbiting the moon.
If all goes according to plan, I won't write that one, greyghost. You'll read about it in the news a few summers after mosquitoes mysteriously disappear😆
This is probably my favorite story from you so far. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Sara, glad to hear it! I was just trying to have a little fun while writing, so it's doubly great when other people are sharing in it!
Hilarious! Definitely a Spider Robinson vibe. Love it!
Thanks, Tim! Glad to hear it! 😃
I loved the chemistry in this group. Thank you.
When the voices in my head get along 🤣
The scenario and plot are brilliant. Shockingly creative.
Thanks BuildingCenter. This was a fun one! Tune in this week if you're interested in a sequel (sort of) 😃
@@RoweLit I'm hooked. I'll be right here. Thanks for sharing so much of your work on CZcams.
@@BuildingCenter Thanks, BC, it's been fun so far!
Here Here (ditto) 👍
Reminds me of a show my cousin Derek is part of from the N.Y.C podcast Derek and Romaine. This is really funny. Even the darkest of your stories has great bits of humor available to listeners that have gotten to know the characters.
Thanks, Hartley! Can you tell I've listened to a few podcasts while working in the garden 😂
Thoroughly entertained ! I wonder what that says about me. Your mind is scary good. Thank You once again.
Thanks, Charles! I wonder what writing these crazy stories means for my mind often. Then I just go with it 😄
Inventive and entertaining!!!!
😁🙏
Brilliant story! If only it came true… Politicians and executives, and Japanese Knotweed
Thanks, Richard! I would have thought Kudzu would have been the first Japanese plant mentioned 🌱🐐
Mares tail too
Maybe a story about the knock on effect of the loss of mosquitoes and poison ivy. The loss or depletion of species that feed on mosquitoes and the possible negative synergistic effect of poison ivy’s departure.
That's a good idea, Maggi, but I'm not sure I'm the writer for that one. I'd get all the biology wrong 🙃😂 I can imagine distant galaxies but how poison ivy might be a necessary part of an ecosystem is just a bridge too far 😃
Poison ivy fruits, called drupes, are an important food for birds. Deer and insects eat the leaves. People think of it as a weed but in an ecological sense it is an early successional plant that is mostly found in disturbed areas.
That being said, I do Iove your stories.
Maggi, you make a great case for why a fiction writer should never be in charge of anything 😂 I think the sequel might be the backstory for Angry Birds. "Why'd you give away all my drupes to those aliens? Stupid humans! It's on!"
The author is a fantastic storyteller! 😂 Fast becoming an avid listener.
Thanks, Tommy! Glad you're enjoying 😀
Now I want to see the cartoon.
Ha! Me too, Herbie! If only I could draw 😂
Rowe is a truly amazing author,,,, wow...
Thanks! Something tells me Dr. J T is an amazing doctor ;-)
@@RoweLit haha... It's true... Or at least I was... But I seriously can't even fathom how you come up with all the vocabulary words and medical terminology space science, tech terminology, etc... I'm going to check out and purchase some of your longer works but the intelligence coming through even in your reply to my comment is really not just impressive, but comforting... Not only because of the exquisite writing but the consideration and manners that pervade every story I've listened to... You would be an incredible person to sit and have a tea with... If you're in Southern California, let me know
@@DrJT-ly3vr Wow. So honored to get such a kind response, Dr. JT! It must be in the name. I know a Dr. JT in my neck of the woods who also happens to be amazing. So glad you're enjoying my writing 😃
I am reminded of an old "Hour 25" on KPFK radio with Harlan Ellison as guest. It was made into a short story if I remember correctly. Something about a disembodied intelligence calling into the show that night.
I'm not familiar, but it sounds similar, Mark. I guess this is the revival for the podcast era. I was just hoping to get rid of mosquitoes once and for all!
@@RoweLit That was back in the 1970's
@@MarkSmith-zg5hq Explains why I wouldn't remember 😄
Super story!
Thanks, Vicki! If I could make one come true, it might be this one!
@@RoweLit I agree! We have to imagine the world we want so maybe the universe can hear our message. 🤞
Fuckin hilariously brilliant!😂
Cheers, Greg! Glad you enjoyed!
I love it!
Cheers, Lisa! 😃🙏
Just delightful! Well done
Cheers, Canton! Glad you enjoyed 😃
I could see this happening if we can just get the aliens to call the right person.
Horseflies are now on the list. I'm just waiting for the call 😃
That was a great story. I don't think anything will miss the Poison Ivy..... But I'm concerned..... All the skeeters are gone, so what do the Swallows and the baby Dragonflies eat??? :^)
Cheers, David! Somebody else was like "the poison ivy is a crucial plant for the ecosystem, but nobody will miss the mosquitoes!" 🤣🤣 I'm sure some animal out there longs for a world without apples and corn!
They should have called me. I would have given them the mosquitos for free.
Thanks, Omnia!🤣Can't give them away, otherwise they'll wonder, "Why aren't they charging us for this?" 🤣
Nice :)
🙏😃
Sell them ticks, e coli and pollution, get a intra galactic merch catalog too, sent to your door
Ticks! A strong contender 😃
Fta❤️
Great story. A pity they didn't suggest bureaucrats.
Ha! I'm not sure they show up that differently in the genetic code 😂 Although 🤔perhaps a better question for a scientist than a sci-fi writer!
I was so engrossed! I want to know what happened!
Thanks, Charlie! There's a sorta-sequel to this one called "Top Sushi," which is pretty fun too.
☺️☺️☺️ Delightful 🙂🙂🙂
Ha! Thanks, Barry! Just wait till the aliens come for dinner 😂
@@RoweLit You ARE a tease !:-)
Is there a map and glossary anywhere?
Busy writing stories, Catherine 😃 If only I could create a character who is so ingenious with stellar cartography I got a map out of the deal 🤣 Sadly, that character is not me!
My nomination would be bluebottles.
What species would listeners nominate?
Calliphora vomitoria or Physalia physalis? Both strong candidates, although vomitoria's name is probably biasing. Turns out they're pretty useful in estimating time of death for forensic investigators. I'm guessing you don't like the stinging?
@@RoweLit The noisy ones, whichever they are, that 💤 buzzy they make really annoys me no end 😡.
I cannot settle and must kill it.
@@martinwyke I had to look up bluebottle, and apparently it's a nickname for these flies and jellyfish, and having been stung by a jellyfish a couple times, I could easily see that being a strong candidate
Witty.
😸😉
"putative emperor of earth" does not instill great confidence as a native (subject?!?) Terran?
Yes, Neal, Terran. If I recall, in that context "putative" referred to his fictional claim to be Earth's emperor. 🤴🌍😃
Mark CEN CA 😮
How are the mosquitoes in CEN CA, Mark?
🤔👏👏👏🤝🕊️
I suggest if they do another round the manchineel tree would be a good one to send them, not a lot, but the world would be better without it
Not a bad choice, Leah. Any tree that has signs on it that read: "Don't stand under this tree when raining" is pretty worthy of a vote!
