You all ready know what you have with this skid steer. As long as its bug enough for what you need. I'd honestly spend a grand or a little more on the new hoses. I know I've never ran it or seen it but since you've owned it there's been no MAJOR issues. Even the brand new machines are capable of blowing a hose if your always working them hard. If the motor and pumps are good. Keep on trucking my friend.
I WOULD CHANGE ALL THE HOSES ON IT AND KEEP IT ITS CHEAPER THAN BUYING RIGHT NOW
I would do the same!! At least you'll know where you stand mechanically. If you buy another used machine you're just starting the process all over again.
I’d sell the leaky bastard to you guys that want to work on it and buy me me one that doesn’t leak
@@travishodges5179 Eventually they all leak.........
@@eagle2019 time destroys everything, a hobby farmer with nothing else to do can nurse a sick machine indefinitely, if the machine is your livelihood you cannot
@@travishodges5179 I agree if a review of the condition of the machine dictates that, and the machine is your "everyday livelihood". For me a "sick" machine is one that requires expensive engine or other mechanical work. For me hoses are regular maintenance items like tires or brakes. Unless one has an unlimited budget and can justify spending $40 to $50k to buy a new skid steer, every time a hose fails, more power to them. I haven't heard Josh mention any other issues other than leaking hoses. In my mind spending $5 or $6K to replace ALL the hoses is a better choice. Your mileage may vary.
Hey Josh, I think I would have brought a trailer and loaded the logs on it. I know you are new at having a sawmill and cutting logs. You can make your timber be more useful if you follow this simple little step. If you don't have a special need for a certain length of lumber, cut your logs in lengths of multiples of 4 feet starting at 8 feet. You will come closer to needing your lumber cut in those lengths. Add about 6" to your logs for trimming square. If possible, stack the logs on timbers or something to prevent ground contact. That will help to prevent soaking up moisture and starting to rot. God bless and keep you safe.
Rick
Hello hope you are doing great
To make your roadside worksite safer, put out reflective cones a quarter mile on either side of the work area to alert the on-coming traffic.
Yep agree 100% and a sign that says "SLOW MEN WORKING"
All machines break. Even brand new ones. You know what you have with Skiddy-Bop. And it won't have a ton of electronic components that are prone to failure. Stick with what you have and fix it all up nice and like new.
Matt
Hello hope you are doing great
I agree with the Takeuchi people. If you replace the skid steer. Something to consider, Hydraulic lines are cheaper then a payment.
Lastly if you are going to take logs off the roadside like that fix a parking spot/loading area for a truck and trailer. No log is worth getting hit because someone was stupidly texting and driving/fall asleep. Safety first.
if there was a place to do this I would have done it brotha....safety is the reason why I got the logs lined up and carried them out with the big TYM 1104....otherwise I'd be in the middle of the road loading logs...now that's danger!
Don’t give up on the skiddy! You already know it has a good engine and pump just change the hydraulic hoses as needed
I would replace every hose on it and think to myself “ that’s one payment on a new one.”
problem is...some have already been replaced and there are bout 30 hoses....I need to write dates on the fittings though...to make sure I know which one's are new
engrave a number or a date on the metal fittings at the end of each hose might be the way to go.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Rather than writing dates get a roll of red or yellow electrical tape and wrap the end of the new hoses with it. You can also write the date on the tape with a sharpie if you like.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer josh you should consider reusable hose ends and buying a decent length of hose, they work better, last longer, and can be replaced in less time than it takes to drive to town! At 1/3 the cost, hoseinahurry is one example, 1.25$/ft and less than 5$ per end
Man that ditch got snotty pretty quick, but you got it figured out. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Love the new TYM, can’t wait to see more on the channel
Thanks Johnny...finally somebody gets it lol
all I hear for your music monolog is "The Wallflowers - 6th Avenue Heartache" great song.
Cheers
This seems like a no brainer to me ,, low hours ,, hardly been used ,, bite the bullet ,, replace every hose on the thing and your good for the rest of your life ,, buy something else used and my money is on ,, you will still be replacing hoses and parts and have the same amount of down time ,, if not more ,, don't star a fire with the flare lol
Replacing all the hoses when ya don't know which one's are bad seems like a huge waste .....old machines will break hoses...30 mins and I'm back in business spending $80. Problem is all the hoses are not original...so I've just gotta fix as needed. It would be a no brainer to replace already replaced hoses....but you give me an idea....date all the hoses as I replace them
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I would still replace all of them that you haven't bought ,, keep all the old ones as back ups if and when ones you have replaced break ,, those used ones will work in a pinch ,,
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer my kubota dealer might have some kubota new and used svls for sale if theres any left in stock everyone buying them every wheres in canada and usa wich he'll ship ya one plus it lifts 90% more wich is nice plus theres $3,500 rebate discount too wich is awsome woooooo
I always cut my timber pinch side first, then open side. You cut the top of the 16 foot log first which was the open side. Then you cut the pinch side last. Gravity will always dictate a pinch and open side. Much safer.
When ur working off over a revene on the side of the road in a blind turn you do what you gotta do to stay away from the traffic my brotha....this was not an ideal place to get the job done
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer CAPTAIN SAFETY says, your worth looking out for so....
Over the years I have lost some red oaks from my property due to disease, storms, and power company antics. The density weight of those logs was incredible. I miss those trees. I look forward to your intentions with the oaks.
That series was know for hoses rubbing. I have a 240 that I have replaced a lot of them. Now that they are changed I haven’t had an issue in a couple years
Spend the money to replace all the hoses at one time, as well as checking seals and pressures on pumps and valves. I suggest to only use the John Deere hydraulic oil when you do this, as it contains additional additives to protect and lengthen the lifespan of the seals and gaskets. I also suggest to look at installing Loegering over the tire tracks. Have ran mine for 2000hrs plus without a flat. Have used mine for demolition to any other rough ground work on the farm as well as side jobs. Great video! 👍
Replace the hydraulic hoses
Josh, Teflon tape can damage your hydraulic pump. I always use a liquid form to seal the threads. Enjoy the new tractor!
If you are getting a tracked machine, you should look at a takauchi. We have one thats 15 yrs old, we've had it for 8, and its had almost no issues. My dad ran one for about 5 years and it was really good for him too.
You need a skider like mike Morgan has for his tractor to get logs out of hard to get places
Josh, I bought a 55 up RK tractor which is made by Tym and love it so far. It has held up well
Keeping the machine you have us better then buying someone else's headaches. At least now you know what you have and what needs fixed. Yet a track machine in my book is far better traction and I believe less disturbance of the ground. Ive used both and hands down ill use one with tracks if I can.
Another suggestion when using chains and logging. Take the end of the chain with the hook and go around the long end of the chain, make a loop around it, then hook it back to the short end of the chain. It lets the chain choke up on the load.
Bite the bullet and change out all the old hoses -- at least on the pressure side. Take a cue from the pros. If a lamp burns out, replace all the bulbs. If a cylinder fails, service it's mate as well. If you wait until failure, you delay expenses long as you can at the cost of productivity.
Gonna have to wait till they break buddy...I'd say 30% of the hoses are already new. It would be like pulling all my teeth and getting false ones just because I have 3 crowns and a cavity. Just gotta put up with it for the sake of owning an inexpensive machine
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Life... is a series of tradeoffs.
Maybe you can find a cheap hydraulic hose crimper and all you might have to do is fix one end - without a full remove & replace.
+/-$100 on eBay.
Great vid as always thx for showing and letting us be apart of your life godbless
You bet!
Watch other's who more experience with the mill, like "OUT Of The Woods". Pick up a metal detector to be safe or pay for more blades and wrecked logs
If it's low hours and runs great change hoses out and save yourself a lot of money. Thanks for sharing.
Exactly...just gotta baby sit the hoses over time replace the failing ones
TAKEUCHI #1 TL series the best. TL12 would drag that thing around. With your skid loader attached.
I differently understand about your machine. I'm having the same trouble. Its a big decision. I live on a small farm so machines are a must. I enjoy watching!!
Yessir...replacing every hose on it is just not gonna happen...we just gotta replace hoses as we need them...might go 2 years without another problem..might go 2 mins lol
Thanks for the videos Josh! Wish our weather was as good as yours 9-10"of snow on my truck! That Kubota trying to pull that log looked like a pussycat trying to breed a tiger LOL
When you said you were going back for another machine, I expected the tractor! That 4-wheeler couldn’t weigh much over 1000 lbs with you in it. Frankly, with that tractor in the stable, I wouldn’t have used anything else. In the situation you had, a winch or comealong would have been a better fallback choice IMO. And the long long chain! 😉 Glad you got it done, but sorry it took a couple of extra hours. Live and learn.
Long log chain.
Winch would have been handy.....the camera does those logs no justice..they were huge
Yeah, they are big enough that they look stubby, despite being over 8’. When the skidder tipped forward, you could tell they were heavy.
No question about it - just replace all the hoses. Hoses are some of the cheapest parts on a machine like that. If you get the tools you can make your own hoses. Because you have a lot of equipment- it would be really nice to have that option. Maybe you can get a hose crimper as a promo.
Josh no matter what you run you will have to put money in to it. It runs good. & you know what you've done to it. If you bye another one you have to start over with what needs to be done. Keep it! No payments.
Good job and ya never be down hill of a log lol we all learned something 😉
TYM is already making a presence on the farm! Can’t wait for the next video
Josh, I mentioned it before spend your money on a good hydraulic press to make hoses. Buy the most common sized hose for all of your equipment, which in my industry its 1/2 and 3/4 inch hose sometimes 1 inch for your returns. You could then invest in the female swivels and hose connections and make your own hoses. It will save you a ton of the money for the life of your farm. I could help you get in touch with people that could help with that. Great video as always.
If the state doesn't pick up the unwanted stuff you should get it and have a CZcams live fireside viewer chat! Next time you go live, do it by a bonfire at dusk!
Shoulda took that big tractor and chains down to get logs out 1st place I think!!
You can replace all of the hoses but you still going to spin w tires. Cut your loss and get the tracks.
whats he gonna pull the track machine out with when he gets it stuck?
Change out the hoses! Take it to JD and have them go through the machine and give you the thumbs up.
lol...that's exactly what I did when the first hose broke brotha...I told them to replace any worn hoses they saw....nothing looks bad from the outside
I only watched this video because of this machine (i have the same one). I enjoy watching videos of this machine. I hope you don't get rid of it.
Well you said it your self bud hydrolic hoses are cheaper than a machine so I'd put all new hoses on it but I do love the track style ..but hope all gets better godbless
One thought - Snatch Blocks!
Replace all of the hydraulic hose on and at napa auto parts they make the hydraulic hoses on site with the old to go by so just letting you know
Nice oak logs. Great video thanks.
Josh, all the original hoses were the same age, when one goes bad, it is time to replace all of them. Don't spend the money on a new machine, when all you need is a few new hoses. Blessings to you, my friend.
Great video. Since the hours are low you may want to just get some racks to put over the wheels. Have a great day.
Just replace all the hoses and possibly the seals at once.
I've had some of the same problems with a JCB telehandler and an old Clark forklift. I finally just went through and replaced all the hoses that looked even remotely suspect of failing. It was a fair amount of money up front but it solved the issue of continual hydraulic hoses bursting. If you do buy a new skid loader we have a Kubota svl75-2 absolutely love it!
Josh, We used a wagon carage & piled the logs on the wagon.
yessir....but I don't think the video shows just how little space I had to work with...if not for the skid loader organizing things I'd never have gotten those big logs out
Thats a good Skidsteer. I ran one for 6 years My boss bought it Used and With the metal tracks its a BEAST. I would replace ALL the hoses at once that way you dont have to change it everytime u get in it. I would take the hoses to a NAPA and have them made or a Regular HYD shop . And dont go cheap on the hoses. They have higher pressure Hoses Yes there more money but in the end You dont have the Down time
As soon as you started backing up the Kubota to try to pull the log up to the ditch I though that was a city kind of thinking and not a farm hand kind of thinking...lol.
told ya before I did it that it wasn't gonna work lol...but cant a guy play sometimes 😉
Hi...... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
How about using a length of wire rope with a couple block and tackle work smarter not harder
Brotha...all i was doing was pulling a log...once I got the big TYM up there it lifted right out. Pulling levers wasn't hard work....if the ground wasn't so darn mushy it would have come right out....the camera doesn't do these logs justice...they are huge ! Big TYM pulled that last log right out
A roller log put under the big log would have helped so would a chain long enough to give the tractor solid footing.
Can't wait to see the mill running
I seen you had tracks in other videos imagine just experimenting with it, allot of money for new one for 100 hours.
If you are looking for a skid steer get a caterpillar they do not charge freight for parts and they have them quick they have two speed engines and all different sizes but we have a grading business and we run ours every day the first one we got 5 years ago and it has not had to have any work done on it except filter changes and it has 3,500hrs on it and we bought a second one the next year and we have had great luck with both and our dealer is in hickory Nc but there is some up near Stoney ridge Nc to best of luck finding a skidsteer
Yeah but 40k+ for just the machine is pretty high
When we Owned a bobcat we bought it for 55k and spent 40 k fixing it over the years and we bought it brand new and the caterpillars we have only had to change filters on them and we have had them the same amount of time
If your planning logging lots, get a skidder winch set up for your tractor.they work pretty good,
by the hoses and fittings and replace them yourself even cheaper ken from kent england
Hey Josh, If skiddy bop has sat for 10 years, you can expect to have a few problems. I have a tractor that was the same way one I got the bugs worked out of her, shes a great tractor. Im sure that the skid loader will be the same.
Im happy you got it done safely I was nervous. I think you should just fix skiddie bop, if you are not going to log that many hours why buy a new piece of machinery. Im sorry about your troubles brother I will ask the gods to guide you
Hi Josh, first tractor I've seen with a reversing bleeper!, fine on materials handlers, loading shovels, trucks, but a tractor will drive me up the wall!
Great video, have a safe Christmas
Kevin
Hello hope you are doing great
Stoney ridge scrap yard....faaaarmmm
Ya getting it done josh. Good time
If a vehicle sits around for that long either the hose(s) looks good but are are worn or going to fail at the worst time. If you now this, at the time of purchasing it, plan to buy a few extra hoses, it is cheaper than a "NEWER" machine and you can more machine for the price.
I get the low impact! And getin the most out of your harvested wood.bummer ypo dont have the time to buck up the firewood.time is worth more than the wood is! The only suggestion I got is is put chains on the little fellow. Can take them off when back on the road or trails.the time it would take was about the same as tryin to move that lumber with the side by side.
You’re killing me dude! You should’ve had that big tractor there in the beginning.
You have cool toys. What a fun video.
That was j hook for a rollback what we call a j hook any way Stoneyman great video bro love content like this
The key when changing hoses on equipment is to buy quality replacements from local hose shops. I have never replaced one that I have installed from my supplier. I have had failures on farm supply box store hoses (China). Just growing pains, you will win this one. Electronics on those nice, newer machines can cost $3000 to $10000 repair! Not for my budget!
Definitely have a shop evaluate it. If it’s just hoses I’d replace them all and go from there. It may be a couple grand or 10. But still cheaper then a newer, less “used” machine. Besides, it’ll make good CZcams content....
I’m cheap I’d probably just replace hoses. BUT a skid steer with tracks is twice the machine than a wheeled machine. And I’m talking factory tracks not aftermarket that go around the tires.
Factory tracks are ok but you'd be surprised how much farther you can go with ott's especially if they are good ones
I should know I've been running a set of loggering steel mud tracks for ten years I also would like to mention the fact that I live in a swamp where it is nothing to stand in mud up to your knees
@@case85xtfan33 you sure do notice the power loss when the tracks go on, won’t spin out and has do the work and it shows up the first full bucket you pack thru the mud!
travis hodges I've been driving a case 85xt since I was 8 years old i am currently 19 and a half years old and I've seen track machines stuck places I've been through
@@case85xtfan33 that’s not a fair comparison, you’ve got 10 years operator experience on one of best skidsteers ever built! I’ve got 30 years experience working on the junk the other guys threw together and call it equipment
travis hodges funny I can't seem to read the other half of your comment
Justs a suggestion, how about installing tracks on those wheels then adding ballast inside the tires.
Driving down a public highway with steel tracks...no sir..this was well thought out...basically the only thing that didn't go as planned was the ground was soft and I had trouble pulling the big log out of the hole...logging chain and a little time and she was out
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Ahhh that makes a whole lot of sense now. I like the idea that safety in unpredictable areas are always on the top of your lists. We moved to Tennessee and bought a small acreage. I use your videos frequently for reference.
Of you chain that short n pick up the leading edge a it it skids way better!! Also I had the same skid steer for years... had tons of electrical.ossues after about 3000 hours... but the are solid machines
My friend, replace the hoses and run it. Shopping for a skid steer is gonna put a big hole in your finances, you can shop for a skid steer later. Look, nobody wants a skid steer with hydraulic leaks, so your gonna get screwed on a trade. Just My opinion. Good luck.
Great video Josh 🇺🇲 WOOOOOO!!!!
I will echo what others have said. Replace all the hoses! Way less expensive than a new or used machine.
This is exactly what winches are for. Stop spinning tires. Sit put, winch it up to flat land.
yep...if I had a winch or a log skidder that's what we would have done.....don't have one...the Big TYM pulled the largest log out of the hole with no issues
Just replace the hoses. If you want a new machine, try them all out for yourself. I recommend a takeuchi.
Bobcat 750 770 platform is good also, will handle over 4 tons , bigger Takeuchi will handle 5 tons, dollar for dollar about the same, service dealers in is the ultimate decision maker, what good is it if parts are in a different state! I use KC bobcat in KC mo because they promised me zero down time ever! If I tear it up or needs service they show up within an hour, if they can’t fix it on site they bring a free replacement loaner and trade out for mine, then swap back when it’s fixed
The Kabota’s are nice, we have one on my farm
A winch on the rtv would've pulled it out no issue
I agree 100%....my plan was to use the Samurai winch but I traded the darn thing 2 weeks after I bought it lol
I don’t see a slow moving vehicle sign on the rear. It probably be less expensive to replace hoses. ✝️❤️
good to see you have good ear protection
When he was spinning out trying to pull that log out i was thinking "This is a problem for Wranglerstar"
Thank you for the video
When you fix mader you should try putting the logs in it and transport them too the hose😂
The way that log was angled in that hole meant a lot of the pull force was just going into the ground.
If I was you I would just get a quote from the dealership and see what it would cost to replace all of the remaining hoes and let them do it. Sometimes spending a little more money can save you a lot of pain. A new used machine means a new set of problems. Skid steers are beaten on their whole life and most people get read of them right before they get expensive to maintain.
Same here. 👍
Agreed
Judging that it cost me around $300 to have one hose replaced..and the machine has probably 40 hoses.....I'd be better off buying a new machine...or simply replace the hoses as needed. The machine ran fine all day...and all day the next day. Replacing all the hoses would be a nightmare. Replacing hoses as they develop problems is also a pain...but I have more than one loader on the farm
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer If you're looking to replace old skiddy then I highly recommend a Bobcat (T190 or T300) we have 2 of them and they are awesome machines.

I would change all the hoses. And either keep it or repaint it and sell it. With what you have done to improve it, you could sell for great price to put toward a newer machine.

So awesome!!!!
I’m in the same boat I have 1996 Mustang 2060 62hp with 2900 hrs on it great machine for what I need on the homestead. Though It seems every time I get in it something decided to break or go bad. In the grand scheme of things I’m still not even close to as financial invested in it as I would be had I decided to go new or even “newer”. My personal opinion just put the work and money in it. Its a drop in the bucket compared to the price of new and we are farmers if it’s broke we fix it!!
Add a set of tracks over the tires will help out alot
Wow that is a lot of wood. Hope you can sell some of the lumber.
Hoses are a maintenance item, replace them all and be done with it for reliability
I know the pain of a older machine blowing hoses but it’s still cheaper than a new machine
Amen!
Hoses are just part of the up keep new ones blow hoses also replace hoses as they blow or replace all and keep the old ones for emergency
