The Saddle Gait/Saddle Rack Description -Gaited Horse Training

The saddle gait also called a saddle rack is a 4 beat even timed, lateral gait. No head shake, with high action in the knees and hocks, the croup (top of the hindquarters) rises up and down and there is a bounce up and down in the horse's tail. When you ride it, it feels smooth or a slight wiggle in the saddle. Some also call this a slow rack. Once you get this gait, and condition your horse, then in time you will be able to get a faster saddle gait which is called the rack. Some horses can rack very fast up to 30 mph which they call the speed rackers.
It is easiest to practice and get this gait on a flat, smooth, hard road or trail.

It is usually inverted. Most need to have some tension in their neck and back to do this gait, but less in the pacey ones.
