Best regards from Germany. May this Island find peace for ever. I have been to Jersey in the 90's as a kid. We were staying at a very nice local familys' house with kids at my age. Must have been 12 or 13 and speaking the best English in my family. We played football, tennis and I learned the cricket rules. My grandfather was 16 when he was forced into the wehrmacht. Wounded an traumatized as a POW. He was beaten up many times by British guards. Never hated the British and made a visit to London in his 70s. It makes me keep my faith in humanism to see people forgive and make their peace. Thanks Canal Island people.

This is a fascinating documentary. The wartime stories of peoples lives, the scale of the fortifications. Also the significance and opportunities of what was discarded in the quarry. Documentaries like these really deserve more airtime than the reconstituted cr@p they usually put on TV.

WoW, I never knew anything of this place as they have hidden it for some reasons...... there is nothing wrong w/ a
person having Pride for their Nation but the globalist elites of this world have tried to remove that sentiment from
all of us out of fear that it might unite the people? Lately I've been glad to see people of the UK waving their Flags
around & you lived w/ the good/bad of this place so you deserve to be heard in both your pride or disdain for any
thing that happened way back then. This is an amazing piece of video..... but why has this not been told? Do you
know why it might be hidden from history or was it so small that they forgot? I think they didn't want this story
to come out..... do you know? peace & God Bless.

My whole family is from Guernsey. When my grandpa was young, he and his mother and siblings had to evacuate because of WW2. He stayed in England but unfortunately his mother came down with Tuberculosis. He says his mother had to stay in a shed in the garden when she came down with it and he said that every morning he would wave at her through the window. She died while still in England. Even today going down the beaches you see their bunkers and buildings. It is a fascinating place and was the only place in Britain where three Jews were taken hostage. I am glad it is getting the recognition it deserves. Oh also castle Cornet has really good rock candy in the gift shop in case you ever go.

Eu ainda tenho saudades dele.

I have spent a few weeks in total on all the Chanel islands investigating. Fascinating and beautiful islands. However the makers of this program should be ashamed of themselves for not even mentioning the 12000 slave workers who built the fortification and every thing else!! They where mostly Russians and Jews. There are mass graves all over the place for them. Did they have a jolly and romantic time during the occupation of the islands? I doubt it. One of your interviewees even referred to starving slaves breaking into her house to steal food. How is it possible to call this a historical program on the wartime buildings etc when you neglect to deal with the appealing human suffering of the slave workers who built everything!!! Very very poor show.

I don't think New Zealand ever really gets mentioned but I think if someone did do research on it I think it would be quite interesting. I thought this was a fantastic documentary because it did show the Human nature of soldiers from other Nations. I'm a US Army Desert Storm Veteran and we always had a fundamental mutual respect for our "enemies" because one way or another they're still warriors defending what they believe in and I can also assure you that throughout history it wasn't just the Germans who committed war crimes. The US has a pretty dark history of committed horrible acts in time or war and continues to do so to this very day

Interesting film, but although in the begining it's mentioned that the Germans, overall were kind to the local population, and although a lot is mentioned about the under ground tunnels, nothing is mentioned about the suffering of the Russian prisoners of war, who were used as force labour, starved to death and when they died, they were just thrown into those big concrete walls.
Sorry, but this film is only about memorabilia without mentioning nothing about the human suffering that is caused by war.

    • @duudsuufd
      @duudsuufd Před 4 lety +1

They were not starved to death because you can't be a weak person to work with all this concrete and iron. And I doubt the dead ones were put in the concrete because that would not be very strong walls. These are just stories. My father had to do force labour in a tank factory near Berlin and he said they were well fed, better than his family that lived in Belgium. And they had one day off in the week (don't know about Russian POW though).
In this case: not until Churchill decided to let the occupiers AND his own people starve to death.
