Yakuza Like a Dragon is the Super Mario RPG of the modern age. They took a simple, but approachable take of the RPG and placed it in the universe of an stablished series.
Infinite Wealth is basically the what if Square made a second back in the 90s. The combat is super refined and even added a strategy RPG feel on positioning units to make pair up attacks with allies or collateral damage with enemies. It’d be my GOTY if it came out last year, and honestly this year is pretty dry so far with not a lot known coming up, so it’ll probably stay up there.
This is a great game that would have been fantastic if it wasn't a bunch of small stuff that piles up for me mainly from the story getting a bit shaky when the group splits and the last third of the game just felt incredibly rushed.
The antagonists felt very underwhelming as we're introduced to them, see their power and then we slap the boss and they disappear for a few hours especially Wong Tou god damn I haven't seen a character done so dirty than him in this series, oh wait there is someone else.
I get that Infinite Wealth was written before Like a Dragon Gaiden but looking at Hanawa it's hilarious how apparent it is because my goodness when he died I thought the game was playing a joke on me and I was expecting him to come back later showing he was alright but no he died and nobody reacted to him dying, even Kiryu just goes damn that's crazy.
None of this applies to Yamai at all because he's the best character introduced in the game.
Story aside I felt Infinite Wealth did a much better job translating the Yakuza series game conventions and adapting them to a RPG and the combat is a such a massive improvement that it made me want to do all the side content in the game and it was a lot more fun to experiment and try out different classes compared to 7.
I’ll wait till the episode to drops to type out my full opinion on Infinite Wealth, but the game has me feeling a bit mixed.

It was good and jammed packed but unfortunately like in most Yakuza games, it did not stick the landing.
Least from a Kiryu fan perspective.
