  • Thin Lizzy was an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in 1969. The band gained popularity in the 1970s with their unique twin lead guitar sound and a mix of hard rock, folk, and blues influences.
This lineup of Thin Lizzy features Phil Lynott as the lead vocalist and bassist, Scott Gorham and Snowy White as the guitarists, and Brian Downey as the drummer.
"Chinatown" is a song by Thin Lizzy from their 1980 album of the same name. The album features Lynott's distinctive vocals and the band's trademark dual guitar harmonies. While not as commercially successful as some of their earlier hits, "Chinatown" remains a notable track in Thin Lizzy's discography and showcases their ability to blend rock with insightful lyrics.

As far as I know this is a mimed performance. so they are selling it a bit for tv. There is a very good live version that was released on the Killers Live EP. The lyrics are a bit smarter than they appear at first glance, when you think about what was happening in Phil's life at this time. London's Chinatown is in Soho, which at that time was the heart of the entertainment industry, and also the heart of the adult entertainment industry. A large number of music and film companies were based there, as well as a number of shops selling musical instruments. It was the place to be.

I saw them twice in the seventies, once with Brian Robertson, and once with Gary Moore. So many great songs including Emerald, Don't Believe A Word, Bad Reputation, Waiting For An Alibi, The Rocker, Whiskey In The Jar, The Boys Are Back In Town, Dancing In The Moonlight, Cold Sweat, and many more.

    This is absolutely all mimed.
Every Thin Lizzy album has something to commend it, although some fans can be very pro or anti the different stage right guitarists (like Van Halen fans with Sammy and Dave)!
Check out Gary Moore and Frankie Miller’s contributions to Still In Love With You, from Nightlife and Dancing In The Moonlight, from Bad Reputation 👍

You guys are absolutely correct re substance abuse. After Snowy left the band, I made a demo, sent it to Phil. However, I missed the unforeseen deadline, which was not advertised, by a few weeks. John Sykes was chosen by management. Studs, who used to roadie for Sweet Savage from Belfast, (Vivian Campbell, Def Leppard, DIO etc) and Robbo's Wild Horses, alerted me to the fact that Lizzy was minus one guitarist. Too late the hero. I missed out by about a fortnight.. Thankfully. I have an addictive personality therefore it might not have ended well for the people around me.

Sounds like it may have been a blessing in disguise! Too bad about the circumstances. - G

I can see the performance is 'live' but I'm not too sure about the music track. Being a drummer and having played this in a band myself, the drums I'm hearing are TOO close to the record for it to be live. Also, find a live show of them and watch Scott Gorham. Yes, he moves about but not like the version you are showing. I believe they're miming and because of that they can show off with 'snazzy' moves.
