    Five years later and this video is still relevant. That alone speaks volumes of the S197. For all of you thinking of purchasing a used S197 and are wondering about buying a used one, reliability, power, etc. I can tell you this, I have owned a 2013 for 8 years now and it has 135000 miles on it. It makes 600 to the wheels via Procharger and other mods. I daily it 80 miles a day with zero problems and enjoy every minute of my commute. Btw 20mpg with Procharger

      @scottsome7270 Před rokem +1

      @@deadfound9948 the 13-14 was rated for like 10-15hp higher so I'm pretty sure you're right. I think it's the same motor physically, but better flowing head. I read some of the '14's toward the end of production actually had the gen 2 camshafts and those are supposed to be the best Gen 1 mustangs you can get .
      I figure it doesn't matter if the mod list is long enough. (I got a 2011 gen 1 coyote) I plan to do a cobra jet and a comp cam or custom grind cam at some point. I want to build it to rev like the Gt350. I'm focusing on weight reduction as well as hole shots.
      I can get a Gen 1 to gen 3 levels of power, but could I get a Gen 3 to the same curb weight as a '11 is the question that would matter to me.

    Really prefer the 13-14 models as well. Although the 15+ suspension and engine changes have been excellent, I don't like the increased physical size or the styling as much (especially the back) as the 13-14. Those halo tails are the best.
    I've driven 4-popper cars for 20 years. Been thinking a lot about grabbing a lower mile 13-14 GT 5.0. Upgrades for me would be some higher end suspension upgrades, to get all the slop and hop and wallow eliminated, brakes, wheels and tires, and some exhaust/intake/tune. Clean up the stick shift and do a clutch if necessary. Done.

My 14 3.7 shares nearly everything with the gt minus the engine and is my daily that has been drove hard for 3 years( but well maintained). Both are modified with tunes and bolt ons Any one in the market for one shouldn’t be scared of them. My 14 did have the paint issue on the front lip of hood(fixed). My last mustang was a 2006 V6 base. I loved that car and instantly regretted selling it. It had 186,xxxmiles on it and was still running strong, for a 4.0L V6. For anyone curios.
    I have a 2011 5.0 81k miles. I’m on the stock clutch and trans. Never opened or changed anything. I have only had one issue which is pretty common on these cars. I actually had my differential take a crap. Started to howl and just decided to die. Upgraded to a 14 GT500 housing and haven’t had issues since.
    If you think that I baby my engine. You’re horribly mistaken too. I rev the engine to 8k every single time it goes out. I beat on the engine and trans like it owes me money. But like he says guys make sure you have the right mods and you know what you’re doing.
    Only issue engine wise I’ve had is BBQ tick. Every coyote has it at some point unfortunately. I use Mobile 1 10w30 and I rarely ever have it happen anymore.
    The peeling hood is a ford defect. Aluminum is a difficult metal to work with and ford had their aluminum contaminated. So if a rock chip kicked up and chipped down to the bare aluminum it would begin to peel. Ford swapped people’s hoods for free if they were under warranty.
    Just thought I’d share my experience with my first gen coyote and reassure people that these things are beast if taken care of. If I wanted to daily my car I could daily it every day back and forth hundreds of miles and not worry. They’re awesome cars and the last generation of the pony car !

      How do you rev to 8100rpm in gen1 engine. My 600wheel pump gas tvs 2011 5.0 revs to 7200rpm. Engine stops making power past 7k rpm.

    • @AlexanderDreams
      @AlexanderDreams Před 6 lety +2

      maximus vonce I rev to 8k with the cobra jet manifold. FBO E85, it can make power 8200 but I need cams. I don’t have intentions of opening this motor because it proves points to people that there’s no problems with these cars. It’s either a bad tuner or bad driver.

    • @maximusvonce1381
      @maximusvonce1381 Před 6 lety

      Bro the gen 1valvetrain isnt designed to rev 8200 rpm. Maybe 7500 max. You need stiffer springs and different cams i believe. I am surprised you haven't blown up. Plus they dont make power past 7200rpm. This is not a boss engine.

    • @maximusvonce1381
      @maximusvonce1381 Před 6 lety

      How do you like e85. I am thinking about e85 in my tvs coyote and its a daily driver. Would you do e85 in a daily driver. I can make another 50wheel with just e85 swap n tune only. Be around 650wheel. Any problems with e85. What pumps n injectors did you go with.

    Most reliable +400 HP pony/sports car. 2015 is also good but 2018 is very troublesome for now(just search 2018 GT engine trouble). I just put in aFe filter and airaid modular tube with steeda tune. The only car I will ever need. One thing I would still change is taller final drive. I mean car has so much torque that first gear does not make much sense now. This engine could easily do 70mph on 1500 rpms or so. Now my car reves to 2100 rpm on 125 km/h. (It already has the tallest gearing installed I think? It is stock gearing for 2013 automatic Gt with brembo pack) I already get like 31 MPGs when doing road with 80 km/h limited road.

    You have to paint prep your hood a different way bc its aluminum, aluminum has to be acid washed with a special mix, for paint to stick properly. Sheet metal is the normal body shop process, just sanded to clean metal or body work, primed, and cleaned and prepped for paint.

    Off topic but when I was in kindergarten my mom took me with her to buy a new car one day. Everyone in my class was in love with mustangs mostly gt500’s so I talked my mom into buying a white v6 convertible, she had only owned trucks and economy cars “like camrys” but somehow I managed to talk her into getting a mustang when I was in kindergarten lol. I actually learned to drive on that car maybe 8-10 years later. I miss that damn car I’m 19 now and I regret not taking that car for a top speed run when I had the chance.
