Malmo boss says Rangers ‘need Champions League money’

- Malmo manager Jon Dahl Tomasson appeared to take a swipe at Rangers’ financial situation ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League qualifying clash at Ibrox.
Responding to a question from STV News about Malmo being under pressure to defend their lead, Tomasson responded: “Don’t you think that they (Rangers) need the Champions League’s money here? I think so, I think they need that. I think that’s a good answer isn’t it?”
Asked to elaborate on his comment, Tomasson said: “I think you all are clever lads so you understand it. I think we should always dream of beating the big favourite because Rangers are the big favourite in this case.
“If you look at the financial path, you can’t compare those two teams to each other, it’s a totally another league. Normally, money decides games but still we won last week and each player should think about the opportunity to write a new chapter in this great history of Malmo.”
After losing just three times in the whole of last season, Rangers have suffered two defeats in the first eight days of this campaign.
Also first I've ever heard anyone refer to the Scottish sports press as clever guys.

Last time we played rangers was the CL-qualifier in august 2011. Then we won so hard that they club went bankrupt and it took them 10 years to recover. Strange that they learned nothing from that. And they still under estimate us.

We haven't started the season well at all, but hopefully we will turn up tomorrow. As for Tomasson's comment, Rangers have the backing whether or not CL money comes in. Three straight seasons of Europa League football hasn't led to the board turning the taps off. In fact, we ruined Celtic's 10IAR tilt at a canter and got in the last 16 for the second successive season. Of course CL money would be great, but it's clearly not essential.
