  • @V.Sudarshan
    @V.Sudarshan Před 2 měsíci +24

    I have non-working MTNL connections that have been out of service for at least two years. The government has been systematically working to kill MTNL and BSNL. Most staff have quit, exchange buildings wear a deserted look for long. All the exchanges are in prime locations. The sale of this land is a one-time event and will not help revive the companies in my view. The vested interests clearly prevail in this case. MTNL/BSNL assets are principally the exchange buildings. Most of their erstwhile manpower works for Airtel and Jio.
    Regarding technology, MTNL/BSNL has the most robust PSTN system in place across the country. But how much of it is maintained and working properly is another guess. Both BSNL/MTNL did not move beyond the 3G mobile technology as the government did not release spectrum. Only recently they are talking of 4G when the private sector has moved on to 5G. Private operators collect what is known as USO from mobile telephony charges which is supposed to fund the loss-making circuits of BSNL/MTNL. Whether these funds are being utilised at all is another saga.
    Raju was not at his best today and Sujit chose to be the 'devil's advocate'. The discussion thus resulted in a lacklustre conversation. Areas like defence, basic communication, and core transportation should always be in the hands of any government. The private sector systems are never robust enough to support national needs. It's no secret that many core sector companies have been killed and BSNL/MTNL is no exception. It's sad that no one is talking about it. Not very long ago, MTNL was listed overseas and has foreign investments in it. India is one of the few countries where PSTN services are being systematically killed and mobile technology run by private operators is given full support. While telecommunication penetration is important, national objectives and contingencies should not be compromised. Any public asset not looked after goes into ruin. There is crony capitalism at play and politicians are playing favourites. If that is not anti-national, then what kind of value systems are we following?

During Day time we used suffer a lot while surfing and accessing internet. As we complained BSNL staff they requested us to surf internet after 9 pm midnight till whole morning . We did the same and were shocked to see BSNL 3G download / upload speed was at par with 5G net speed. On asking BSNL staff told their wail on how they were not getting Salary on time , denial of 4G connections , plus not surplus advanced given for maintaining the existing 3G Signal Towers. This Modi Govt wants Ambani Jio to take Whole India Telecom into their family fist. 😢 Sad .

    Simply government has no business to do business.
    But BSNL is one of the exceptions.
