Hello from NC,USA.about an occasional snake...they don't necessarily want to be around humans.if someone is concerned about an encounter with a snake, tell them to have a conversation on the way to the pool ..If they are alone sing or whistle a tune.if it's a cool evening or morning, walk a little slower.announce your presence.they would rather go somewhere a little more private.Enjoy.
Yes that’s very true and great advice! They really are quite timid and really don’t want to be around us so that’s a great suggestion for anyone worried!

Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your work. I’m working on building a natural swimming pond without the dirt sediment floating around. These two videos have been interesting and informative.
I agree with natural lifestyle, but I love what he says about diet and longevity. I do think he is referring to pesticides, and yes that is a massive concern. But if you're interested in longevity I suggest reading the book How Not To Die by Michael Greger. I don't like the title but the info is phenomenal. Also, I really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing!
This is such a wonderful concept. I've always wondered why the push for chemicals instead of natural filtering. Did he share the cost as compared to a traditional pool? Thanks so much for sharing.
I'm SO eager to learn more!! I'm wondering if this is a possibility in a high mesa area, with mild winters? Currently, we live at almost 7,800 ft elevation, on top of an underground lake. We have a flourishing well that we would use to initially fill it up, but I think we do get enough precipitation throughout the year that it would stay relatively full most of the time. I guess what I'm really asking, is: in the environment you live in, how often do you need to add supplemental water to your pool, if any? Also, what are your typical seasons like; have you ever experienced a drought in your area, and if so, how much water did you need to add that year? I ask that because droughts do occasionally happen here.
I dream of this dreamy place. I am wondering about building the pool with an earthen material instead of concrete. Do you think a clay plaster or a Tadelakt technique could be used?
Hi Beatrice, these are great questions… I’m going to say roughly 8metres in length and maybe 3-4m in the widest part and 2m in the skinniest part…. But if you want an exact measurement you could comment on the pool over on the Bali Eco Lodge CZcams Channel czcams.com/users/baliecolodge
Hi Jason! Thank you, yes Norm has done a wonderful job!… yes it is a type of pebble wash. I had to check though as we call it “batu sikat” which are the Indonesian words for “brushed stone”.
How do you regulate temperature? We have issues with brain eating amoeba in our natural warm bodies of water here in AZ, and other states in the USA. Risk goes up when temps rise & water gets churned up. How would you ensure that you don't get that issue or would your existing systems be enough since there is no soil? Beautiful pool and I love the aesthetics. :o)
Hey S.H sorry in the delay in replying! This pool only gets direct sunlight in the morning, also it’s slightly cooler temperatures up here. In regards to that scary amoeba… you could maybe reach out to Norm through his website www.baliecolodge.com to see what he says about that.
thank you for the useful infos! I like the idea of the floating plants. any hints how you built them? any styrofoam or something? I am running a conventional looking pool with biofiltration, by putting some floating plants in 1 or 2 corners I could make it look more natural...
This pool they used bamboo to float on. I would be concerned about styrofoam as it’s a plastic chemical type substance. See if you can find some wood that will float that isn’t treated or would leach chemicals into the pool
@@islandbreezy441 That depends on the cork product you buy, but I don't think there is any adhesive in the cork used in wine bottle corks... I could be wrong, I am not a wine expert.

@@ThrivingwithNature yes, it is, as long as the water head is low or 0, like when someone recirculate water from the wetland back to the pond/pool while centrifugal pumps are more efficient at some high water head or pressure someone like davidpaganbuttler was using it for that purpose, but his pools are rectangular at the deep bottom part
Also, what is minimum size recommended (gallons or square yards/meters)? I know that the smaller the pool, the easier it would be to get out of balance. So awesome! Thanks for sharing!!
I don’t think there is necessarily a recommended size, you would just need to work with ratios and keep an eye on the balance. Make sure the water is being filtered at the best rate and enough plants are in it.
What do the most beautiful ecologically sustainable ponds/pools have in common? First they are sealed with clay which removes nutrients unlike plastic and concrete, second they are rich with native wildflowers, third, they look and function the same as the most beautiful natural lakes in the world, forth they have no filters because the ecological design cleans itself, fifth their waters are cleaner than concrete pools. Because of all this, the best natural waters for swimming do not look like pools. We will leave you to guess who creates these habitats.
Hi Shella, essentially what norm teaches is the pump needs to be able to pump the entire amount of volume of water in your pool in 24 hours. So X litres/24 hours = pump speed.
Hmm that’s interesting Diana, I’m not sure. I would imagine it would work similar but you would need to see how it affects the ecosystem you create. You could message Norm at the Eco lodge and ask him. www.baliecolodge.com
Mosquito larvae only like stagnant still water … this natural pool not only is constantly moving but there are small fish that would eat the larvae :) so no mosquitoes
Hey Louis, oops I better look into that! Thanks for letting me know. It is definitely on the cards it just might take a bit as Norm is away for the next couple of months… feel free to email me at hello@thrivingwithnature.com so I can put you on the list
Hi Ensaios, I believe they used brushed pebbling & cement to seal the pool. If you want more technical information you could contact them at the Sarinbuana Eco Lodge :)
