I was a Private Contractor working for the Army. For those who don't know - Sim rounds are like paintball but for people who enjoy eating thumbtacks. They hurt like a MF when you get hit in the ribs. Not anywhere close to as bad as it was taking a bullet to the vest, trust me, but they HURT when they hit bone.

My grandparents on both sides, and some of my older aunts and uncles, had shooting clubs available in school, and would learn target shooting in things like the boy scouts or girl scouts. So a large percentage of kids learned basic gun safety at a fairly young age. But starting in the 60s and up into the 90s that gun culture really receded into more rural areas. So a lot of kids grow up with nothing but video games or movies, and no generational knowledge being passed down either. Then they turn 18 or 21, decide to buy a gun, have no idea what they are doing, and no respect for the danger that miss-handled firearms represent.
I’m pretty sure one of the main rules of picking a fight is don’t bring a knife to a gun fight, thought everyone knew this by now. If you’re aggressor, or the person you’re aggressing, has a gun and you don’t, four letters, gtfo.
I believe there is a 'rule' about this. The 20 something foot rule. Where you *should* have time to rush the person before they had time to draw, cock, aim and shoot. But I don't know if that works very well.
