  • Today's farm vlog has me testing a "hack" that was suggested by one of my viewers ....although I have found a dedicate product made for this exact thing...I thought we'd take a set of standard zip ties and see if they would work to get you unstuck from ice and snow in a pinch....check it out...you might be surprised!!

      You are right. The tires do need to be facing the right way. Easy fix. Swap the wheels. Left to right and right to left. However. It won't help. The point of the video was to determine if the zip tie trick works. But I have to ask. Why wasn't aggressive knobby tires put on? There would be no need for zip-ties. Any tire you put on it will dry-rot before the tread is worn out. Money was wasted on the tires he had on that light weight, lack of a better term, buggy.

      I study a lot of history... mostly wwii history. A lot of the time, if a jeep or troop truck got stuck in snow or mud, soldiers would take some branches and put them against the tires for traction. Please note however, this was when they didn’t have someone to tow them out. And it didn’t always work. If the mud or snow was too deep, then this technique didn’t work.

    Btw the direction the tires are on the wheels gives them more grip. We do the same with our tractor tires when we get into heavy terrain.
    Love your vids the really make my day. Keep up the good content.

    I know this would not help in the snow but your rear tire is on the wrong sides you need to switch them so the tire grip pattern would be facing forward. Thanks for the tip with the zip ties

    Got stuck in a snow covered field could go backward but not forward.
    Thankfully there were slots in my wheels & some room.
    So I took an old water hose cut it up and tied several pieces to each rear tire.
    Drove right out & after a few miles on the asphalt they self removed themselves.

    ask a hvac installer for some bigger ties or buy 36"-48" catamounts and they reach around tire. they will also work to clamp brakes and drive line when messing with the electrician on job site lol. Or place just one on a drive line and watch them try to figure out the snapping noise every time they roll lol

    Perhaps something like 5/16" nuts on the zips, or rope wrapped around them, but you could just wrap the rope around and go spoke to spoke with wheels like that.

    I always have bungee cords and ratchet straps on my vehicle to tie stuff down, I bet those would work in a pinch. Zip ties are awesome and I use small ones all the time for electric wires. I didn't know about these big ones. I will have to look for those.

  • @cliffleverett1982
    @cliffleverett1982 Před 5 lety

    Ill point out that due to an open differential the tire with the least amount of traction will always spin. The open differential allows the tires to move at different speeds. Like when you make a turn the outside wheel travels further or has to rotate more.

  • @tank2449
    @tank2449 Před 5 lety

    and the reason the left tire spun when you put the zipties on the right is because of open diff, check your manual and machine out you might have a diff lock to lock the rear end or the front end
