What an absolutely stunning car. The best looking Ford ever, in my own opinion!.
To Peter clarricoats : EXACTLY MY OWN OPINION!
When I was in my mid-teens, a pal's Dad gave us a lift to school in one of these and it went like a rocket. A great car with real character.
I looked at the car on the Matthewsonâs website - it says this.
âThe Vendor has kindly offered the following:- Built in April 1974, then exported to Portugal in 1978 where the Portuguese authorities issued it with an 1978 registration plate. The vehicle remained in Portugal until 2020 where it was repariated. When the current owner tried to re-register the vehicle with the DVLA because it had been given 1978 documents/registration they would only issue it with a 1978 plate here and no amount of letters would change their mindâŠ.â
Itâs estimated at 8500 to 9500. Massive under-estimate I think.
I did wonder about that number plate. Thanks for the explanation.
I was going to say 1978??? Thanks for clarifying.
Had 2000 E buttermilk with brown vinyl roof 8 track stereo cloth interior what a lovely car
Beautiful Cortina, i had one in white with the black bumpers and roof, loved it, felt like a millionaire when i drove it
To be on an 'S' plate it has to have been re-registered for some reason or other. The last of these were on a 'R' plate, up to July 31st 1977.
The VIN says its an April 74 build. So how it got an S plate is indeed a mystery, unless it sat in a dealership for three years before being sold for the first time (and therefore legally ânewâ and entitled to that S plate from 1977.
What i thought as well. For minute i wondered whether the Mk3 continued its run while the Mk4 was in production
Canât remember ever seeing a MkIII on a âSâ plate before. MkIVâs came out on âRâ, so it must be one of the last, making it ever rarer. Itâs definitely a GT and what an absolute stunner! Iâd love it.
Yes there's something odd about that plate . The Mark four was well into production by S reg. It came out on R in 77.
I think I know they made last of the mark 3 in South Africa this is most likely a import in UK the last ones wee r reg
Probably old stock not registered till 78
@@trevorwilliams7279 You may be correct. However although this is very late on that plate I think Ford may have being able to still sell cars that had been made but not sold and sat in a field for a year or 2? I remember seeing one or two mk v, in England on an Y plate despite that the Sierra started on that year?
My first motor was a mk 4 with the pinto and the choke was always an issue from cold.It was manual choke but if you let the engine cut part warm it could be a pig to get running again.Great car though on an S plate.
I had the 2000E version of thiis model and in the same colour still my favourite car of all time , I wish I still had it.
To Paul C. In the 70's , I had a chalk striped suit in this colour. Imagine if I had the car to with it!
I regulary drove a dark blue one of these as a Police car back in the 70s'... absolutely loved it!
What a beauty. My late dad had a 2000E estate, THK664N. Still around last time I looked. He loved that car, but p/ex it after a long battle against tin worm.
Aah it's certainly a lovely classic car! I seriously wish these were made, in sight and in use now. I've really missed out on these and other great classic things that were around in the days when they were made it's such a shame for me.
To Alexander Tebbiche, I couldn't agree more! Another car I wish I'd owned, was the (totally different) wedge Princess. I saw a special edition going down my road once, all in black but with a classy contrasting triple gold stripe down the sides! LEGEND. Scumbags enjoy running down their own country's cars. All cars were not so thoroughly built, in those days, not British in particular. But we couldn't half come up with some cracking designs! (How about the Vauxhall Cresta with the FINS on it, and the Hillman Imp, and Triumph Herald?)
I bought one of these, in bronze with the vinyl roof, just after they were introduced. I had owned the MK2 GT and the difference was amazing. For those days, it moved very quickly. Eventually I traded it in for a MK3 Estate.
Owned one , a1600 XL , in 1982 . My first
car in fact , 72 K on the clock it cost me
ÂŁ350 . I know , it probably was a bit on
the steep side money wise ! , but that's
what love will do to you dammit all đ
Had a slant dash 2000GT, went like the clappers! Bought it from Otley motors with four other cars (was trading cheap cars at the time) for ÂŁ700 the lot! Happy daysâŠ
I had a 1.3L in light blue with vinyl roof, it did have a Ghia interior though. It was a bit of a rust bucket but did me for 2 years and the guy I bought it from bought back and I lost almost nothing. Good old car.
I had a TC Cortina; what a car it was. Went around corners; like a rocket on rails.
I had a 1975 Cortina GT facelift back in the day, they should have cloth seats not the square pattern vinyl like this one. The seats look like they are from a pre facelift or maybe a SA import. 1978...... peculiar as these only went to 1976 R reg.
The 250cu in 6cylinder was popular in Australia and was a bit of a weapon ! đđ
Itâs in fabulous condition, most 70s cars just rusted away.
This will have had loads of bodywork done to it to be in this condition, trust me. Either that or it's lived in that dry shed it's whole life. On a quiet night..it's said you could hear them rust.
I think this car spent it's time in the warm climate of Portugal, so it has lasted.
What a great looking car they are
Damn that looks so much nicer than the 2000GT I owned, and I bought that back in 1982.lol But the Mk3 Cortina still one of my all time favourites.
Stunning condition.
Beautiful car..I always liked them... perfection
Beautiful - my mum had a yellow one with a black vinyl roof
Gorgeous! Iâve never seen a Cortina GT before. Beautiful colour! Thanks for a neat video đ
Last of the curvy ones. Lovely đ
Very nice looking mk3 must admit cant be many left as they rotted for fun back in there day .
Be nice to own a nice one though you would know u got something rare with this
Top motor đ
I was gonna say it can't be a 78, the mk3 ceased production in 76.
Love mk3 cortinaâs had a 1600xl did hundreds of thousands of miles in it
I had an earlier slant dash 4 door 2.0 gt in the same colour. Fern green metallic. Well used but a good car.
Satelite silver will look even betterđđđđđđđ
In 1986 I had a mk3 4 door 1971 GT, it had the beige seats the same as this pattern,Rostyle weren't deep dish and had chrome snap on rims, and there was only a round drivers door chrome mirror. The door mirrors on this car look aftermarket, Radiyot-spelling may not be correct, but they have the spacers to the door to level them, which were common to buy. Also had a 75 2000e which had this dashboard with wood, gt didn't have wood inside or aluminum bootstrip, it has the correct bootlid, black with narrow chrome strips. Nice car but prefer the early type, it's the headlights look better roundđ
To Joshua Davies
To J. Davies. From Nygel Miller. My phone has a so-called SPELL CHECKER on it, which interferes, and in effect is a Spell Changer! I must now dig out the complicated instructions for turning that absurd device off, it spellt your NAME Joshua! Sorry about the sex change! I meant to say I worked in a car accessory shop, and the firm you mentioned is spellt (Spell Checker permitting) RAYDYOT.
Mate's dad had a 1972 (K reg) 2000 GXL in red. Lovely cars, even though I'm not a big Ford fan.
The Cortina mk3 stopped in 1976 last mk3 are R registered the Mk 4 arrived Autumn 1976. I've never seen a S reg mk3 before they don't exist unless it a import had a reg change.
Colin White explains this in his posts ^^^ near the top
Crackin looking Cortina ,wish I could ,don't we all.
I learnt driving with my dad s xle
I like the ones with this dashboard.
She's beautiful đ
Mk4 was released in 1976, so I wonder why this car was so late registered?
VIN Plate indicates it was a UK built car.
What a fantastic car but they stopped making them in 1976
My first legal car was a 1972 mk3 XL. It was a boat. Wings rotted and it was woeful, but I loved it đ
I had the exact same model it was updated in November 1973 for the model year 1974. My car was just two years old on purchase. The lights grill and dashboard were changed all also the seats were the same as fitted to the GL model of the same year and in a cloth finish. This one has the wrong seats tombstone style seats as they were called were only fitted in the early model from 1970 to 1973. This one also has the GL over riders on the bumpers.
face lift gt had xl trim from the factory with the 3 inch squares and tombstome trim was a option on the facelift
I had a 1975 2000 GT that had original tombstone seats .
My first car 1600 L ÂŁ100 loved it
My brother used to have 1972 2.0ltr GT in tangerine with black vinyl roof and tan vinyl seats. For out it was rotten as a pear after he bought in 1976! Occasionally used to borrow it when he wasn't around for some driving experience before getting lessons! Went like shi* off a shovel! đđ
Lovely condition, does it sit slightly higher on the road ?
Brilliant!
Thatâs stunning
i prefer the twin round headlamps and a 2.0 ltr GTX. this car is nice though, the camshaft did not sound to bad a slight ticking
My dad had a 2lt gt. It was M reg, same colour onyx green
Not sure this is a gt. My dads had a cluster of 4 guages in the centre kinked towards the driver. Also different seats.
Nice car but now its in the uk the rust will start.
Yes I remember that well. It was the pre face-lift version with 4 gauges in the centre console. I also think the earlier GTs only had 2 doors.?
My earlier mk3 GT had the gauges and four headlamps.
On an S plate. Mk4s came out on an R, so this must be one of the last ones made.
It's not a South African example. That would be fitted with front & prominent rear reflectors. Legal requirement there. Maybe New Zealand. Also built there & had gone metric by then. Those mentioning about 2dr GTs. They were in a majority but not exclusively so.
Very nice , surely a SA or Aussie import though , i cannot remember seeing a uk home market Mk3gt with the facelift mk4 style dash ?, gt had the 4 small gauges [fuel , temp.oil ,volts] in the centre console angled towards the driver. By 1977 it was the Mk4 .
Aged 17 in 1979 i had a 74 m reg 2dr 2lt GT twin headlamp , twin lamp 2 door gt's are rare now.
They did make the GT in the facelifted version but it was very rare. Mk3 stopped production in 1976. From late 75 they had cloth seats so I reckon you're right that this is an SA import, especially as that colour wasn't available here at that time either.
Looks like an XL not a GT
I think the black panel on the boot was unique to the GT.
What a great looking car the ford cortina GT what more can you ask for.
What's happened to the series, I can't even find thenm on YT either now.
If only i was still in england as i would definitely buy this car.i would outbid anyone!!
My dad had a 73 Cortina MK3 GT two door yellow with black vinyl roof
Definitely an XL, not a GT. Hasn't got the four dials by the gear lever. Nice car nevertheless.
Or maybe a L Decor. Not a GT by a country mile. Mk3 GT was phased out in early 1974 replaced by the 2000E and XLR
The earlier sloping dashboard GTs and GXLs had the four dials by the gear lever.
It's a mash up of 2000GT & 2000E
There canât be many left in this nick handled like a dog on Lino much like everything else in the 70âs đ
To Rob Catist. "Handled like a dog on lino" You are funny - you ARE a card! A WHOLE pack!
Hello. You mention a two week window. Is is selling before the November auction?
Iâd have That Navy Green Mk3 Ford Cortina & The Mk4 & Mk5 Ford Cortina Ghia / Crusader / Carousel Cortina Ford Mk5 & The Ford Cortina 2.0 GLS & 2.0 LS . 2.0 S Mk5 Cortinaâs
I had a 2.0L GL mk4 1978 âTâ reg saw the title and thought thatâs a bit strange 78 S reg 1978 mk3
how is it an s
mk 4 r onwards ?
What does touch base mean???
This fella hasn't seen a Ford yet that didn't cause him to wet his pants đ
I thought the GXL model was the top spec before the 2000E which I had brilliant cars back in the day better than vauxhall and triumph crap
Speedo in KPH ?
Must be old stock never seen one newer than P reg they were rare!
From the Matthewsons website. âThe Vendor has kindly offered the following:- Built in April 1974, then exported to Portugal in 1978 where the Portuguese authorities issued it with an 1978 registration plate. The vehicle remained in Portugal until 2020 where it was repariated. The last you'd see was an R reg .
@@peterstudley1804 Old stock like the Capri 280 and some corti a crusaders took a couple of years to sell last Capri reg.in 89!đ
@@colinwhite5355 They did make that model up to 76,checked with ford MK3 history.....đ
Thatâs a MK4 dashboard in a MK3 also twin headlights are missing and the centre console cluster is missing, which included oil pressure gauge, voltmeter, ammeter and fuel gauge. Something not right with this car đ€
I too thought the dash was wrong
@@bewildered5444 yes Paul, something not right here. Makes me very suspicious đ€š
Like someone has had a MK3 shell and a mishmash of parts. Possibly a MK4 was the donor car? As much as I loved my MK3 2lt GT, Iâd steer well clear of this.
@@GpoppaJohn Maybe the engine and chassis numbers would throw some light on it? It seems as though someone has been raiding the parts bin to make a presentable car. Nothing wrong with that of course, but making it out to be something it's not is a different story.
@@bewildered5444 definitely. In my opinion, so much wrong with this âMK3â that you would forever rue buying this car, with its MK4 dash. Imagine showing this to your friends or taking it to meetings/shows with your chest pumped out with pride and then people mention the dash. Rather deflating.
I read on here someone saying it was listed around 9K or something and how they considered it to be undervalued. Not in my book, the dash alone knocks thousands of ÂŁs off.
Like you say, be interesting what details the VIN plate throws upđđ»
@@GpoppaJohn As an aside John, my late father's 2000E estate (his pride and joy) required a wheel change. Unfortunately the jack continued to ascend as the car stubbornly stayed still, accompanied by my brother and I's hysterical laughter. Dad was not amused. Isn't it strange how cars evoke so many memories of our past, good and bad.
1978 ford cortina mk3. Bollocks these ceased production on 1976 and was replaced by mk4
I thought all the GT's were 2 door ?
You sure thatâs not an GXL ?. GTâs had 4 clocks in centre console unless memory fails me !!
I had a GXL, it also had the 4 clocks in the centre. This has the updated dash that was continued to the Mk4, I didn't know there were GT's with the new dash.
Its all about money, really. (enjoy passing yours, over to us)
look at the vin tag says colour onyx gt
Must be an South African import was only Registered in October 2020
Check what it says on website - itâs been in Portugal.
Looks more like an XL that a GT
72000km not miles
20 k car all day .if absolutely kosher.
Where was that hiding, the MK 4 replaced it in 1976
That registration number looks dodgy.
I would fit an injection systemđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđŹđ§đŹđ§đŹđ§đŹđ§
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. BundesabgasbespaĂungsverbotsverordnung in German.
