    If you're planning to move to a surrounding county of Charlotte and are expecting to commute into the city for work, be prepared for a long commute every day. Currently I live in Dallas, NC and it's 30 minutes on the I-85 to my job without traffic, and during rush hour it averages out to about 45 minutes each way. If there's an accident (which is frequent) I have to take back roads for 55 minutes to avoid the 1 hr+ traffic jam. All I can say is move as close as possible to your work if you don't like traffic.

    We moved to the Charlotte area 25 years ago. The area has grown exponentially over that time. Traffic in Charlotte is horrendous. Do not move into Mecklenburg County. Property taxes and the auto insurance is high and the schools are terrible, also there is a lot of crime. Keep to the outlying counties.

    Thanks for this video. Charlotte just came up as a potential retirement location (from Omaha, Nebraska). It’s always about the cost of housing …. and weather. Trying to leave winter snow and not replace it too much of icy storm season. 😮 I’ll start to research this option.
    As a recall this is eastern hub for AA which should make easy in and out for travel. 👍🏾

      Hard summers, easy winters here. The 92 degrees today wouldn't be so bad if the humidity wasn't 72%. I work outside and it feels like stepping into an armpit, all the time. However there isn't much snow, although I did take my profile pic here a couple of years ago. It took Bessemer City 3 days to completely clear the roads of 6 inches of snow. But that was 2 years ago and it hasn't really snowed since.

    I have to disagree with the diversity issue. I rarely go out without seeing Asians and Latinos as well, and I usually hear multiple languages spoken around town and see restaurants of diverse foods. There is also and Indian culture festival, Hispanic, Pride, Greek. Unless you live on the West side (nearly all black) or in Dilworth (nearly all white) the rest of the city is pretty diverse.

    • @beckymccully
      @beckymccully  Před 10 měsíci

      I absolutely believe it is diverse...however the context is important. If you compare Charlotte to NYC or Chicago someone will be disappointed with the diversity here. I love Charlotte and all it has to offer, AND I don't want to mislead someone coming from a larger metropolitan area which is where a large amount of people move here from.

    Are there several establishments that play live music in Charlotte? Not talking about a concert venue but something similar to a bar in downtown Nashville?

    • @beckymccully
      @beckymccully  Před 8 měsíci +1

      YES! We have lots of live music local spots. The Evening Muse, Tremont, NC Music Factory are just a few. And then there are a ton of bars/restaurants that have regular live music on the weekends.

    The nice thing about the housing market here in Charlotte. You don't need a real estate agent to sell your home. Once you put your home on the market. It will sell very fast. I couldn't imagine paying 6% fee to sell my house. We get cash offers all the time. It's not even for sale.

    Hello! Are there any aquatic centers with indoor pools in the Charlotte or surrounding areas? I am a swimmer so this is important for me. Thank you.

      Hi! Yes we have a ton of indoor pool options! The various YMCA locations have indoor pools, and the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.

    It is a great city, no question. I've lived in the area for almost 20 years now. However, it is NOT affordable unless you're making 6 figures. 200k and up.

    • @beckymccully
      @beckymccully  Před 8 měsíci

      @@TheVosack sadly housing affordability is an issue everywhere since the last 3 years we had extremely high buyer demand and low supply of available homes. We are in an interesting time now where both buyer demand and housing supply are down. Usually one is high and the other low.

    Can you please share your honest opinion if Charlotte is an area where retirees who came from a different ethnic background other than White Americans are welcomed and treated with respect. Thank you.

    • @beckymccully
      @beckymccully  Před rokem +1

      Oh my gosh YES! While we do lack the diversity of some other cities, most people are very welcoming and friendly. And we have different niches of ethnic backgrounds that seem to congregate. There are a lot of companies that are based in other parts of the world such as Europe and Asia, that have major hubs here in the area. That has helped to bring more diversity to the region too because there is a rotating group of expats. In addition, there is a little Bosnian market and cafe that people originally from that are all seem to learn about. And the same thing with other nationalities.
