Back in the day , church was like this everywhere. We had great singers, musicians and the spirit with it. Aretha was amazing no doubt,. However, we had a lot of amazing singers at church that were never discovered, that would have amazed many mainstream audiences. I had four at my church that could have went national. Our congregation was around 120 people. Can you imagine how many great singers were at church everywhere that never got discovered?

Anyone please tell me why, when we suppose to have this whole recording ou (Live at New Temple Missionary Baptist Church 1972), why is this exact piece of Climbing Higher Mountains is not there? Listen and look closely, this is another take which is not in the released footage. How and where is this piece!? Even CR Franklin mentioning Aretha being a stone singer is not on there. It's incomplete, we need the rest!!
When are the going to release this on DVD? I'm sure Aretha wants more say in the production and probably more royalties. She deserves it for this life changing recording.

Ree Ree knew what was up...she was indeed A MUSICAL GENIUS but also business savvy. She wanted ALL of the R-E-S-P-E-C-T "SHE EARNED" tirelessly..."THEY WANT" to make as many millions they can grab off of her back FULL OF BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS. Really can't blame her for any of her decisions. She remained smart and savvy after all she had been through until her passing. Well done Queen of Soul!

This is the only piece of this footage I've ever seen other than what's on her documentary. Ugh!!! I'm not sure why they will not release the entire thing. I would pay BIG DOLLARS TO SEE THIS IN ITS ENTIRETY. Clara Ward is there with her mom!!! I've read countless accounts of this recording but have never seen it!! Thx so much for sharing!!

JewelsR4ever Here's a link to another short video from this 1972 recording...that has been uploaded to CZcams. At around 1:15 minutes into the short video...you'll see a thin white guy down front, clapping his hands having a good ol' time (Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones) with the rest of the mostly African American congregants in the church recording....then the film cuts to a lady in a really nice off white outfit...I believe that is Ms Clara Ward. When she ad libs, “I’m climbing them...round by round...”, she’s referencing a verse from the African-American spiritual, “We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder”: “Every round goes higher and higher” (although not quite correctly, in that the song is “Climbing Higher Mountains”; mountains don’t have rounds.) "Jacob’s Ladder” is based on a dream the biblical Patriarch had that is described in Genesis 28:10-19 (specifically verse 12): "And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.”
