Because almost all logic or abilities that characters have in their original universe, disappears without a trace and would make sense if someone were to say it's because of the supernatural magic or atmosphere is what nullified any ability a character has

I had a vivid dream about this when I was younger, I used to be obsessed with Slendybob and had a nightmare one night. Basically SpongeBob had been turned into a terrifying monster and went on a killing spree to slaughter everyone in Binki Bottom. For some reason it was Patrick's perspective and there were a bunch of camps for survivors set up in Bikini Bottom, it's vivid and I don't remember much but it was pretty scary.

Well last time I saw a Spongebob horror game, they had to chage every single model, scenario and EVERYTHING to save themselves from copyright issues after a week or two of being out. Also happened to Amanda the Adventurer with Dora the Explorer's style. I wouldn't be surprised if this game ends up that same way, specially with it using even screenshots and all of the characters.

I remember when I use to play a game called LittleBigPlanet 2, players were able to create all kinds of levels and games from scratch. One of the most popular sides of it was the horror, copy n' paste of Jeff the killer levels and eyeless jack but also a level called Spongebob's lost episode. It was about Squidward snapping after his performance was shunned for the last time. So scary Spongebob stuff has always exist but it's coming full circle
