Same here man, not as old as you but was just a young teen skateboarding with friends down the street in Detroit. Saw a box of music albums laying inside box on the side of the street ready for trash pickup. Of course we started digging through and we didn’t recognize anything in there, bunch of bands we never heard of. I ended up getting some album called learning English from some band called die toten hosen….took a listen through the album and this song was on it. Changed my life forever. Even all these years later, still one of the greatest tracks I ever heard and it never gets old

I was born in 1977. I am a music fan from before I can remember. We had a jukebox that played 45s when I was a kid, you know, back when getting together with your friends after school just to listen to music was a singular activity. I just discovered this band in 2018. One of the few bands with songs you hear once and jump up out of your seat from pure instant love and excitement. Rare indeed. Rock on!

The singing reminds me of The Jam a bit. I will never get tired of hearing this song.. I was at school when this came out and hadn't enough money to buy it so I taped it from a friends record. I actually filled a tape with this song because I loved it so much and didn't want to keep rewinding it. My dad went and taped bloody Frankie Laine's greatest hits over the whole thing. I was devastated. I put the tape on one night & it was this idiot singing songs about guns & bullets. Absolutely Gutted!

Ok, I have a comment here. One of the all time great songs, fantastic performance. Why is everyone sitting down? People my age singing along , know all the words, but they are still sitting down. Get off your blooming arse, go down the front and show some appreciation of the band! Nice to see the younger kids at the bar knew the words!

America absolutely missed out on one of the greater bands of the 1970's!!! As Music Director of WTCS, "Friendly City Rock", in Fairmont, WV I DID MY PART! Used to play them ALL the time! And you know how a lot of bands should pack it in 30 years after their initial success? Not true here! This video proves they still have it! Great!!!

I was at that awkward and influential age when this song came out. The lyrics shaped my attitude to life, work, adults. Even today I would advise any disillusioned teenager to listen to the words and take it from there. I saw the original lineup and also got them all to sign the cover of the record. Now one of my treasured possessions.
BTW, There's another great band/ song I'd recommend with a similar message. Its 'Dont Just Sit There' by The Crack. Put the headphones on & check it out here on YT.
