I'll never forget the incredible harmony of Peter and Gordon. Their music brings back memories of a much simpler and more innocent world that I miss so much.
I WAS INVITED IN 1964 BY THE DAUGHTER OF THE COMMANDING ADMIRAL OF THE JACKSONVILLE NAVAL AIR STATION, USA TO A GET TOGETHER. SOME PRETTY GIRLS AND ME, MY BROTHER AND MIKE, SO PARTY IS GOING ON AND THEN HOST SAYS FOR EVERYONE TO SIT DOWN AND FACE THE ENTRY WAY THEN IN WALKED PETER & GORDON! TALK ABOUT A BIG SURPRISE! THEY SANG ABOUT 4 OF THEIR NEW SONG HITS AND IT WAS FANTASTIC!
Had a chance to see Peter Asher perform in February 2016 on the Flower Power Cruise. He is an amazing musician and story teller. We listened to him for 2 hours as he sang his music and talked about his amazing life, his time with Gordon, their early days, about the time Paul McCartney lived in his basement and how the Beatles started, about his time producing for some of the greatest artists of the love generation.
Still my favorite Peter & Gordon song, despite the two well known songs that McCartney provided. I did not realize it was written by another great - Del Shannon
Thanks for posting. Recently I learned Gordon Waller had died. I had a teen crush on him, loved his facial expressions , and am happy to learn at 68 yrs old I still love watching him in this yeats later video. RIP Gordon! ❤️
Was it ever... I didn't get to experience it as I was born in 84, but I know how it was because of my parents. This country was much happier, healthier, safer, moral, loving, etc, etc... We can have it again if we just do the right things and that's a whole different topic. What a beautiful song that reflects a beautiful innocent period...
War, racism, homophobic, denying women their rights, assinated president...it all existed back then. The 60s were a very turbulant time. This song, written by Del Shannon, came out in November 1964. Nine years after the Vietnam war started, months before the Civil Rights act was passed. 1 year after JFK was killed, 4 years before MLK and RFK were killed. There was a lot of ugliness in the so called much more simpler and innocent world. It just was being glossed over much more back then as you only had a few channels on television and the newspaper was your source for into.

"I Go to Pieces" passed to Peter and Gordon when that duo and Del Shannon, along with the Searchers, shared the bill for a tour of Australia in the second half of 1964. At one of the tour's venues, Shannon pitched "I Go to Pieces" to the Searchers. singing it for the group in their dressing room. Peter and Gordon in the dressing room next door overheard Shannon singing "I Go to Pieces" to the Searchers, who weren't interested in it and, recognizing the song's potential to become a Merseybeat-style hit, Peter and Gordon asked Shannon to let them record it.
Gave the Searchers a tape of Marshall Crenshaw material once and they weren't interested. Made me wonder what they were looking for in the way of material.
@@harvey1954 I understand Marshalls music has roots were in soul music and Buddy Holly as he was often compared to in his early career. Perhaps they had poor management.

This song just popped into my head so I said let me listen to it. I’ll forever love it to death and to see them still performing it?!?as older guys. Truly awesome That music is like no other today I’ll have to listen to the Del Shannon version. Has anyone ever heard, You are “Life and Breath” to me,, I can’t think of the artists. I’ll have to dig through my 45s but anyway, it’s another tearjerker, like this one. ❤❤ So many I love, “Last night at the dance, I met Laurie” and it was her birthday. 😢❤😊
I adored Peter and Gordon in my teens! Was happy to see Peter Asher become a successful record producer (Linda Ronstadt, Ronnie Milsap and others) He also teamed up later with Jeremy Clyde from Chad and Jeremy for some great harmony. He tells wonderful stories about the Beatles and other greats!
I met Peter Asher When I worked for a production school in Minneapolis. He has been one of my favorites and I immediately turned into a 14-year-old girl… It was absolutely wonderful who would’ve known that when I was 14 years old someday I would meet him
I was lucky to have been a teenager during the latter part of the sixties during the height of the British Invasion. The very best of early rock and roll. Love this duo!
Wow...live in Manila. I lived in Manila when this song was being played on the radio there circa 1965-66. I was only 7 years old, but it was one of my favorites.
Peter Asher and his sister Jane were child actors in the 1950s. They played siblings in a 1955 episode of the television series The Adventures of Robin Hood. Jane Asher dated The Beatles' Paul McCartney between 1963 and 1968, and Peter and Gordon recorded several songs written by McCartney but credited to Lennon-McCartney. Those hits included "A World Without Love" (US & UK #1), "Nobody I Know" (US #12; UK #10), "I Don't Want To See You Again" (US #16, but not a hit in the UK), and "Woman". With "Woman", McCartney used the pseudonym Bernard Webb to see whether he could have a hit song without his name attached. First pressings of the US Capitol single listed the composer as "A. Smith". The song reached #14 in the US and #28 on the British charts in 1966. Peter and Gordon also recorded the John Lennon-penned Lennon-McCartney song, "If I Fell", which was previously recorded by The Beatles and released on their 1964 album, A Hard Day's Night. (Wikipedia)
The golden Liverpool duo. They were the only ones who could rival the Everly Brothers. Who had a phenomenal revival early seventies with Stories We Could Tell, with a backing of Woodstock allure. The follow up of that album, Pass The Chicken And Listen, was also great,. I wish Peter & Gordon had a comeback like that too. Delightful harmonies, their voices blended perfectly.
Can you imagine being this good at this age? It's like a wood worker who makes faces out of wood and has done it for 60 or so years. You never forget how to do it.
Yes. They are old now. But their voices bring me back to when we were all Young and Bold. No real worries...good health...good friends. My first love...Debbie E. God bless them forever.

Deborah O. Looking at the video here, I was wondering why he looked rough, but could still sing. Peter sounds like he took care of himself. They were two special Souls, with beautiful voices.

Nobody’s gonna say this although everyone wants to, so I’ll say it. Even though Peter was famous due to his sister Jane Asher's connection to Paul McCartney Gordon Waller “WAS” Peter and Gordon just like Brian Jones was The Rolling Stones, Joe Dorita was the Three Stooges, Kermit the Frog was the Muppets, Pop was Rice Krispies, Peter Tork was the Monkees and M.T was the A team. Honorable mention to Little Opie Cunningham who was the Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days.
