Ik i’ve been commenting a lot but i feel like i gotta say this video absolutely does downplay alphys. Specifically her discovering and naming “Determination” which afaik was confirmed by Toby to be her discovery

Anyway, I just read the exact quote you are talking about. It was on I think it was page 80-something and might have been either a direct quote from TF or an indirect one, so it should be reliable. However I noticed that Toby Fox also used weird phrasing such as "appears to be" and other vague phrasings. While I'm sure that could be a theory in itself, I won't touch it. But the exact quote said that "DETERMINATION" is the "code word" that she "uses" to refer to the the substance you get from human SOULS. So she didn't necessarily name it that, but is still using the word to reference the substance "DT".

Man I watched the WHOLE VIDEO with you and was also thinking it made so much sense. Then I jumped into the comments and people are saying it's all wrong, which blows my mind. Now I'm curious about the other theory everybody is saying is better.
It doesn't make sense because it completely removes the point of Alphys existing lol

to put it simply, the youtuber known as "Dorked" is a huge fan of Alphys's character and she dislikes any theories that paints her in a bad light, extending that sentiment to her viewers. She actually made a responce video trying to say this video was bad but without providing sufficient evidence. Ever since, viewers of her channel find reactions to this theory to downplay it and explain how they also dislike it.
A strong evidence of this is people saying "It devalues Alphys's story and accomplishments" because this was something Dorked repeatedly mentioned as "evidence" because she thinks Toby Fox wouldn't want to 'devalue' Alphys's story.
I know this because I discussed it with her at length in her comments, where her points of evidence were looping logic made from a personal bias for alphys.
She's not purposefully sending people to hate on this theory, but the sentiment caries onto the viewers. Thus, every video of people reacting to this theory is filled with these comments saying how much they dislike to convince other people to dislike it.
I hope that explains it all.
I personally really don't like this theory. But to each they're own.
I believe the entry about the seeds being sticky is telling you how the golden flowers from the outside world ended up back inside the barrier. Asriel set Chara's body down into a bed of golden flowers in the human village. The seeds clung to their body. Asriel took the body back into the underground. And then died where the flowers are in the castle. Asgore's garden. Toriel took Chara's body to the Ruins, and flowers also sprouted there because there were more seeds still clinging to their body. Im not sure about the patch of golden flowers in waterfall dump. But its possible that any loose seeds ended up there. Or even, Alphys brought them stuck on her clothes. Because she spent so much time at the dump contemplating jumping into the abyss literally

The main assumption that i feel carries this theory is that the experiments began before any human souls were collected. The fact that they’re using monster souls doesn’t automatically mean they had NO human souls, but they just didn’t have enough to break the barrier. If anything they would’ve had to have had AT LEAST one human soul anyways, since the experiments involved extracting DT from human souls.
they also ignore the fact that gaster has a clear defined writing style which they ignore to spin this narrative that gaster wrote some entries toby is not the type of person to change this much about a writing style the no caps can simply be seen as a mistake while gasters whole shift in writing style is just not possible
@@GeoBlitzyIt's also strongly, STRONGLY implied in UT that Frisk is the first fallen human in quite a long time, at least a few decades if not a century or more. Alphys almost certainly had all 6 other human souls when she began her experiments. The problem with being stuck in one place and needing humans to come to you is that you have absolutely no idea when the next one might come. It might be tomorrow, it might be a thousand years. Naturally Asgore wanted to pursue every possible avenue of research he could into breaking the barrier, since even with 6 souls under his belt the seventh very well might never come.

There is a big problem about the whole "Nose nuzzle" thing.

Kang Rose, let me explain. A lot of people have a strong bias to theories/head-cannons that they like. Oftentimes these are influenced by CZcamsrs who share their own theories and have smaller or larger fan bases. A lot of the people disagreeing with this theory are only doing so because they like a undertale theory CZcamsr with a much larger fan base who adamantly apposes this theory. So, i won't insert my own opinions here, but I'm just telling you to be aware of the bias behind the comment section, and to still give this theory a chance after seeing the other video people in the comments are recommending.

Yeah, this ain't it. I know what other CZcamsr you're referring to, and I can confidently say that any UT fan with even a cursory knowledge of the lore was ripping this theory to shreds before that other video came out. The theory is utter nonsense that relies on dozens of baseless assumptions while ignoring obvious information. It's the product of someone really, REALLY wanting Gaster to have a larger role in the main story of UT, and twisting facts to justify that conclusion. The opinions of other CZcamsrs are irrelevant to that fact.

May I ask why people were "ripping it apart"? What were the reasons why people were disagreeing with it? Like, where was the fault in logic?
@@devlinmcguire7543 for one, grammar inconsistencies mean nothing. there is a stark difference bewteen posting on social media and writing a professional entry. heck, it's why i don't accept entry 15 smiley as proof that gaster did not write it. he could be a fucking dork for all we know (and the valentines card does allude to that). besides, every time alphys was writing lowercase, alphys was in a bad mood. there's also toby explicitly saying determinaion is alphys's codeword, which... kinda shoots a hole into the theory. it's dead in the water.
there's also the wet ink in asgore's house, meaning that asgore DOES visit, meaning that a big part of the video can kinda be thrown out.
also, flowey put all the entries in the order he thought they should be... how? why? why did he happen to miss entry 17? why did he even order them to begin with?
also, if gaster successfully ran determination experiments before alphys... what's the point in not using it any further? why keep it hidden? they've basically discovered the cure to old age, why conceal it?
like, this theory has big, glaring holes and it just does NOT hold up. AT ALL
Oh no man. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh honestly i don't know what to say because while i think this is a cool theory video i don't like the theory itself cause i think it does a disservice to Alphys' character.
there's a reason dorked's video is right under it, because it acts as a rebuttal to this theory. I really really really really really REALLY implore you to watch that video right now.

I felt like Dorked's rebuttal had less evidence and showed more bias towards Alphys than actual logical arguments. While defending Alphys is nice and all, it's not really something that can be used as evidence now is it? "It devalues Alphys" is not an argument that makes this theory any more or less likely.
I'm not saying there's nothing there, but neither side completely shuts down the other imo.
@@SuperRayman001 I feel like I should have explained myself better when It came to alphys. because i feared that Kang would have a lower opinion of Alphys at the end of the video and that ended up happening.
I really like the a lot of the points of the theory mainly the idea of entry 17 being a recording and Flowey orchestrating a lot of things in the background (except maybe the papyrus call where he says howdy. I’m tossing and turning over if it’s papyrus or flowey cause papyrus’ face sprite shows up and it doesn’t do that for any of the other times flowey impersonates someone but he says howdy and you could reasonably argue based on on the dialogue that it could be papyrus following orders from flowey or flowey trying hard to seem like he’s papyrus. Anyway I’m getting ahead of myself)
Ok one of the main contradictions in this video is the fact that Alphys isolated the power that SHE called determination. (Also Toby supposedly said that she created it in the legends of localization book but I haven’t confirmed that myself) She states in her dialogue:

I don’t wanna say that gaster didn’t know about know about determination it’s a high probability he did, but saying he wrote half of the entries I find to be a bit of a stretch. all we knew of him in UT before DR was “fell into his creation”, “shattered across time and space” I think it would be… disingenuous to hide lore like this.
Tying things to gaster in a game where we’re not even sure what he looks like, and that no normal person playing the game will likely ever learn of his existence except through the internet, I just don’t like it no matter how you put it. You get what I’m saying at this point? I feel like I got lost in the sauce at some point writing this comment on and off. Sorry bout that.
i dont like this headcanon tbh. alphys literally says to frisk that she was the one who discovered and named "determination", she simply used Gaster's blueprints and the beginnings of his research on it. its implied that Gaster may have come up with the schematics of the DT extraction machine, but Alphys was the one who made it all work (and then go horribly wrong). Asgore even hired Alphys to replace Gaster after he saw that she created "a robot with a soul" (Mettaton's new body), proving her brilliance. she studied with Sans and who knows what she knows (or IF she knows) about other timelines, since Sans does. theres actually a really good video by Dorked about this!
im an alphys hater first and foremost so i love this theory
This theory falls apart completely once you play Undertale actually paying attention to the dialogues and the overall story.
to me this theory is good... until it's not, still a really fun theory, but, there is evidence that disproves this theory, so not very solid
but again, still a fun theory to watch, at least in my opinion

As for why it's hated, this 'theory' is less so a theory and more just a series of poor excuses to undermine Alphys' importance to the game's story and attribute all of her accomplishments to other characters solely to make her look bad.

funny enough Dorked released what's basically the complete antithesis to this theory, I'd reccomend giving it a watch. tired of seeing people completely disregard alphys to just shift all of her genuine accomplishments to a character that's not even in the game.

Her video was lack luster, and didn't provide enough evidence to support her claim. It kinda sucked, ngl.
friend, gaster has a very very distinct writing style thats only used for the hidden entry number 17. No other entry uses it.
The only real leg this theory has to stand on is just the weird "the blueprints" Line, which is vague enough in its own. The most you could reasonably attribute to gaster from this would have to be designing the dt extractor, which is a tiny part of the whole damn thing. Building it, using it on a human soul, and experimenting past that was all alphys. People also site sans here due to the lack of capitalization in some of the entries, and like, alphys texts throughout hotland have plenty of those.
Think about how the entries read from a fresh playthrough from someone who doesnt even know about gaster. It all reads like alphys, and the game gives no reasonable tell to say its not. This whole theory is like saying the joke book in toriel's home is actually asriel's to back up a theory of him aspiring to be a comedian.
@@deepfry70 Exactly. Nobody questioned who wrote the entries because they’re all meant to sound like Alphys. Entry 15 even uses a “:)” smiley, something Alphys has shown to use.
