- Cody Rhodes handed his WrestleMania 40 title shot against Roman Reigns to The Rock on a February edition of WWE SmackDown, and a recent interview suggests that a certain reaction wasn't the initial plan for the segment. Well technically you wouldn’t be handing it off you would have just postponed it for a few months. The plan was always for Cody to win, it’s just that the only reason why Cody was in the main event at 39 was because TKO bought WWE for billions and wanted to save Rock for 40. The Rock is the only reason why Cody was able to get that push over the past year and feud with Roman. Cody draws good money and ratings for WWE so they obviously had plans for him to win at some point probably at Summerslam this year. Instead the fans forced it and now we have meaningless feuds with Logan Paul.

@@BillyChester-hb7cb Yes because Logan was coming off a few wins and big spots that got him over. He also didn’t have the belt at the time, so like any other contender he naturally earned his way for a shot at the title. Logan and Cody have no history, have titles, and just talked for 2 weeks where they flip flop the rules, nothing matters and it’s too predictable. At least with Roman vs Logan Paul there was the worry that WWE would have Logan end the reign instead of someone else more deserving (I.e. Cody Rhodes).

But it was actually supposed to be The Rock vs Roman Reigns but Cody wanted his story back to finish it so that what made the rock mad and he slapped Cody so that's why it will be Cody vs the Rock at SummerSlam or at WrestleMania 41 but I think it will be Cody Rhodes vs TheRock at SummerSlam because it might be Roman Reigns vs TheRock.

This whole scenario appeared when Punk got injured during The Royal Rumble, and the audible was called during The Rumble, and the finish was switched from a Punk win to a Rhodes back to back win.
Yea my guy, idk what they was thinking imo. Even tho I wanted Roman vs Rock, how things played out was waaaaaaaaaay more entertaining leading up to WrestleMania. Final Boss Rock alongside of his cousin just felt right. Final Boss beating the Piss out of Cody in Chicago was too good....I'm glad they pivoted and I'm glad Cody played it how it did because it just adds to the mystic of this whole scenario and finally finishing his story. Great video! The original plan was Cody vs Roman. Then The Rock decided he wanted the Main Event. Imagine the damn ego on The Rock & his YESMAN Brian Gewirtz to actually think everyone should just get out of the way & give The Rock what he wants, when he wants. Cody should just go out there & toss his life's dream aside with a huge smile all for The Rock? Really? Would The Rock do that for him? NO! Give me a damn break! There's a rumour that it was a setup between Hunter & Cody. If it was a setup by Hunter then it really shows everyone how how much he truly cares about the Boys & Girls in the locker room, like Cody who has busted his ass 4+ days a week ever since coming back, working Live events/Granting Make-A-Wishes/TV Interviews promoting the company etc....Hunter knew Cody earned & deserved his moment. Hunter knew it was terrible idea to go with The Rock only for him to go right back to Hollywood. While Cody is STILL doing all the same things now as Undisputed WWE Champion like he was before becoming Undisputed WWE Champion, 4+ days a week! 💯

If they had planned to do The Rock vs. Roman at Wrestlemania 40, they should've also let Cody finish the story the year before instead of having Roman beat him and then forcing Cody to work his ass off for ANOTHER YEAR and win a second Royal Rumble. I don't blame Cody for his reaction, and if it were me, I would've gone off. Realistically, Rock v. Roman could've happened at any PPV and still been significant, but it wasn't right to allow Dwayne to literally steal Cody's hard-fought-for moment.
The true affront of that plan for The Rock to win and then vacate the championship because he'd be off doing another movie pissed us all off. I'm glad we didn't let them get away with this because it would've been an absolute disaster for the fans, for WWE, and for Wrestlemania.
Yes Cody did hand it over to the Rock but he changed his mind and he needed to finish his story and then the Rock going to slap Cody in the face so what does that lead to Cody Rhodes vs TheRock at WrestleMania 41 and The Rock also disrespected Cody's mom and he will never finish his story but he did he beat Roman and he pined him so what did The Rock Whisperer in Cody ear and I don't think that was scripted so what did he say to Cody I think he was telling him about finishing the story or thank you or about the watch that his father gave him or the lighter yeah but I don't know but we already know everything is scripted in WWE but not what the Rock whisper and Cody ear.
In that segment...The Rock's entrance was heelish because he didn't interact with the crowd, serious face etc. and Cody was looking/acting upset leaving the ring. I think this was all work from the start lol Go back and watch it

I thought originally cm punk was meant to win the royal rumble and face seth if that had happened the rock vs reigns woukd then make sense ...but punk got injured and everything changed so then they tried to fix it in the worse way possible
It was but Cody went into business for himself (his job is to hide his emotions so thats no excuse he's an athletic actor at the end of the day lol) with HHH spearheading it because he felt he looked 2nd class to the Rock after the TKO deal and HHH is known to be as petty as it gets, hence the HHH era being shoved down my throat all throughout mania😂

You didn't let Cody win against Roman the first time amd now they were going to tey and dick him over again..no one was having it. Wrestlemania 40 would have been a crap show and the fan there would have booed Rock and Roman out the building. Im glad everything turned out the way it did.

Oh the look changed everything. Enough that WWE removed it from the playback on youtube. It was clear he was upset about it and thought it was the wrong move. However, he was willing to do business, and that matters in the business. Never mind i think it was one big work and you truly invest people when they believe things are real. Montreal Screwjob I absolutely believe was the biggest work ever. Brett got paid the millions he wanted and had to work for a smaller amount of time due to injury. WWE got a new superstar with hbk who became a great heel, and we also got Vince as the evil boss. It worked out for everyone really. Wouldnt br hard for them to set it all up. Codys bus catching fire, more sympathy with him getring hige revenue from sales at WM from merch absolutely bought a new bus. As a fan from the 90s i believe everything is constructed and engeneered in wrestling.

That Roman vs Rock match wouldve been a slow, drag of a match. Also Roman barely showed for the WM40 build. The pre match build to 40 wouldve been mid af in comp to what we got.

Today Cody admited he wss told before Rumble it was Rock vs Roman so him pointing at Roman his Raw episode and thrn smackdown episode was all a sabatoge.
This has literally all been provable as Rock was promoting the match since last year even.

Cody hurt himself it wasn't his time yet but he was too eager and deliberately botched that promo to gain sympathy, they shouldn't have had him win the rumble in the 1st place tho that was the biggest misstep, had that not happened all would have been fine he could have slowly taken out the bloodline, did the match with the Rock then finally wins the belt in MSG where it would actually "finish the story" now he's slowley becoming hated cause they've got nothing of substance for him like this so we're slapping the US belt on him in a desperate attempt to make him as relavent as Roman which "spoilers" didn't happen overnight

Cody Rhodes isn't new to wrestling politics. He played that moment with The Rock PERFECTLY. In actuality, Cody is more of THE PEOPLE'S CHAMP right now than The Rock is. 😑

Boring? It was getting boring watching the bloodline interfere in all of Roman’s matches for him to win. He is good enough to win most of his matches without interference.
