  • From www.swimmingpo... - This video shows an example of a variable speed swimming pool pump schedule for a 18'x36' pool with an average depth of six feet and a water volume of just under 30,000 gallons. This test is set up with a 1.5 hp pool pump that is wired for 120 volts. The plumbing system is 2" PVC with a 150 square foot cartridge filter. The filtration goal is three times the volume of the swimming pool for 95% of the total pool water being filtered. The numbers used in this video are unique to this system and are an example only, as the numbers for your pool will be different and unique to your plumbing system.

Please do more pool repair videos, they would be more helpful to me and you will more than likely get more views. I’ll keep watching. -Norrid ...just to put it out there, but if you need thirty videos on fully refurbishing a pool I can send you a pic of mine, it’s a concrete hole in the ground.

Thanks Steve! Very helpful. Is 2" pipe recommend for an 18X36 with an 8' deep end?

I also have a similar sized pool (28k gallons) with a 3hp VSP. I live in California with some of the worst energy rates ($0.33/KWh). Thank you for the schedule breakdown. It gives me an idea of how to schedule my pump for my situation. Thanks again.

Seems like a small filter for such a big pool. Probably have to clean that alot.

In California I usually have 3x turnover in summer 1.5x the rest of the year, does this seem correct?

Yes I would suspect that many of your neighbors with similar pools use a schedule like this
