  • Join us as we head to The Hoover Dam located on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona! In this video we start off by taking a look at this huge dam from the nearby bridge, followed by parking up right next to the dam and walking across it. The Hoover Dam was completed in 1936 after 5 years of construction and is a spectacular piece of engineering!

    My grandfather was the foreman on the construction of those huge chutes at the base of the dam where the water pours out. Wonderful heritage for our family.

    Super vlog Shawn. I love the Hoover Dam, you have to appreciate all the work that went into building it and the lives lost. Such an important structure. If there was no Hoover Dam their wouldn't be a Las Vegas.

  • @gavinsadventuresinterests.

    God DAMN,
    That is one BIG DAM.
    The hoover Dam is a hydro-electric power station/plant if i am correct.
    It uses the water flow current to turn the generator turbines in the power plant to produce electricity.
    The electricity is then distributed to US homes & businesses via the National Grid.
    What an amazing piece of engineering.

    Another good vlog Shawn, now this is a place & an attraction I think in my opinion could have a cable car built across dam? Lower than bridge, but higher than dam? Could have a cable car that safely stops over the dam? Offering amazing view from onboard for all to see aswell gain pictures & videos. Be a good opportunity in my opinion, don't think I have actually seen this dam or heard? Or hadn't, might of seen it in movies before? But never known about its location at all, but looks nice. £10.00 for parking isn't bad, quite good. Tours are really good priced aswell at least I think? But nice video, enjoyed, loved the view from bridge, real high and scary. But remembering probs crossed bridges similar to these in Southern France. But nice video again, really loved and look forward for more videos like this in future. 😀👍

    Like you Shawn the only time I had seen the Hoover Dam was from a helicopter on the way to the the Grand Canyon, so your footage was amazing from the Memorial Bridge. Then when you made your way to the visitor centre itself it was even better. I didn’t even know they had one. Such a pity the tour centre wasn’t open. Being a wheelchair user it was nice see it was so accessible. We don’t have any near future plans to visit Las Vegas but a visit will be on my list of things to do when we do. This was a very informative video. Thanks for sharing. Just wondering did you smartphone of watch automatically switch time zones as you crossed the dam?

  • @LudiCrust.
    @LudiCrust. Před 2 lety

    The receding water level of Lake Mead is terrifying. It supplies the water to millions of people and is dropping about 8 inches a day (which is incredible because it’s over 60 miles long). When it runs out there is going to be a mass migration of people (the water turbines in the dam supply most of the electricity to Vegas as well). What you saw here is the beginning of the end of a major catastrophe caused by global warming.

    17:58 Arizona does not observe Daylight Savings Time. When you and Charlotte were there, no daylight savings time to worry about. But during the summer months, Arizona is on Pacific Time, but on Mountain Time during the winter months. So no time zone change on the Hoover Dam during daylight savings time unless decides to change their state laws regarding time zones and daylight savings time. Indiana at one time did not observe Daylight Savings Time like Arizona, but they changed the regulation there later on.
