That hood ornament is insane. Those big ass boom boxes in the truck don't leave much room for guns.
Love how the Rolls Royce hood ornament can retract safely away…allowing you to confidently park in the hood.
I'd honestly be terrified driving this thing around. I feel like it would get keyed twice a week.
This would blend right in with the (badly) modded Chryslers in the hood, especially with that poor-taste wrap. I doubt most people wouldn't even realize this is special.
@@SomeOne_86 I would buy one just to enjoy but it's an attention getter and it would be keyed.
@@SomeOne_86 thats why you should not live in the city hahaha, too many crazys living there
@@ShawnFX I live in an eastern european country, but yeah you're right. Even here, you can notice a massive difference between people from the city and even just the surrounds of it. Everyone is pent up and will shout death threats at you within 20 seconds if you do something they don't agree with.
I had a finger of whiskey every time Bill sighed. 20 minutes in and I'm drunk as a skunk.
From what I've read and listened about the buyout: BMW was on the way to finalizing the purchase of RR/Bentley when VW came into the picture. BMW knew that the then owners of both brands didn't own the right to the name Rolls Royce and Spirit of Ecstasy symbol.
When VW outbid them, they just went and bought the rights to the RR name and symbol from the rightful owners.
Funny detail: some people knew that the RR brand had different ownership and tried to warn Piech about it, but he wouldn't listen; after the deal was done, someone finally told Piech that he had just bought Bentley and the factory but not the RR brand. Apparently he didn't take the news that lightly, demanding that the ties with BMW were cut immediately, not knowing how much of the cars relied on BMW parts/components/assemblies. And this is the reason the old 6.75 V8 came out of retirement and was fitted once again on Bentleys, replacing BMW's V12.
And a "gentleman's agreement" was made in that BMW continued to supply Bentley with parts until the then current models were replaced.
If I'm not mistaken it was a ten year agreement and during that time VW had to pay BMW royalties for the use of the name and use of the spirit of ecstasy
I love all the extra information and pictures and video that you add to your videos. You're making an extremely good quality product. You've done good, Bill.
Dalton is GONE?!?! I can't believe this shit. He was so adorable...like that day you had the flat in that old Caddy and he came to your rescue. Granted, he did flip you off as you were standing there bitching while he was putting air in the tire, but that was just part of his charm that made him so lovable. And I began to love that it looked like he cleaned the windshields with a raw chicken leg, a trademark reminder of how wonderful he was. Bless his heart. Fuck.
Looooooool this is comedy gold! So you've met him in person?!
That video with the '69 Caddy with the flat spare was probably the second Curious Cars episode that I saw, and probably the one that got me to subscribe.

I find it difficult to believe that the newer Rolls Royces have the panache of the earlier models. That kind of mystique is gone today. Back in the 1970s I had the pleasure of owning a Silver Wraith with a custom body by Rippon. It was a pretty two tone affair in silver and dark metallic grey. I drove it into Jack-in-the-Box to buy lunch. Of course on a Silver Wraith the bonnet precedes the customer by some length. All the kids in there came to the window at once and started asking me the strangest questions, like, "is the Flying Lady" ornament solid silver?" or "Is the engine sealed?" etc. All of us enjoyed the encounter a great deal. Today, some of that lore has fallen by the wayside.
The physician who does the beats is a keeper. I'm using that for sure.
Bill from Curious Cars: the only guy who can get away with comparing Rolls Royce to high quality anti-diarrhea medication.
Driving around giving people the finger while looking for chamber maids I can abuse!😂Your priceless Bill!Never stop!
I can’t believe Bill does not have a million subscribers.
"Physician that makes the Beats" hahaha. That was awesome.
Thank you for not running the absolute crap out of this gorgeous machine (on camera, anyway).
British Royal Family didn't adopt Rolls-Royce for their main transport needs until the mid-1950s, up until that point it was Daimler that supplied the cars.
Great video and history lesson on Rolls Royce! I love it when Bill mentions the price of $280-$300K and say’s it practically a people’s car and I wonder if it floats? That company getting the Bentley nameplate ultimately! 😅
You f'n killed me with the Grey Poupon 🤣🤣🤣🤣💀
Great to hear from you again Bill, hope you've been keeping well.
Hello Paulie! I'm keeping on keeping on. Plugging along til the weather improves.
@curiouscars9282
I hear that Bill, gin is great in the muggy weather.
Farewell to the understated elegance that was the hallmark of Rolls Royce. I guess this one might not have been all that bad before the monied rapper got hold of it. Thanks for the history and background of the company, Bill.
... understated elegance. These days that would be a Bentley or a Toyota Century. In the UK, they say that the old money types drive Bentleys, the new money go for the Rolls.
Check out the new RR drop-head. Stunningly elegant and finally a new Rolls worthy of the name.
@@jec1ny Modern Bentleys look more "sporty" and far less elegant to me, especially when compared to an Extended Phantom. I do agree about the Century however.
@@jec1nyBentley is less elegant. They never really made anything that luxurious imo and they’re a little more modern than rolls royce
Since most of the current royalty in England is from Germany, I'd say it's absolutely Fritz wearing the queen's robes.
This channel is the best of CZcams.
Hey Bill, what a pleasant surprise to see a Monday video!!! Another muggy shitty Florida day. This Rolls Royce is a nice touch of class!!! Thanks for sharing this exciting video!!! 👍👍🙂
Wow! I thought everyone forgot about Adi Amin by now.
But that’s what makes these videos special!
Hi Bill - Great review! Those C pillar mirrors are another long running historical feature and are meant to be used as vanity mirrors, a quick look before you get out of the car to face your adoring fans. I know they go back to the Silver Cloud days of the 1960s, maybe even before.
You're a legend, Bill. Never change!
Maserati's Quattroporte platform is not shared with Chrysler. It's a rear-wheel-drive architecture from the Fiat group called the M156. That's also shared with the Levante and the Ghibli. The switchgear as well as the electronics are shared from Chrysler's parts bin.
Please elaborate on the Daewoo leganza story
Thanks for another great video Bill :) Absolutely love your reviews !!!! and the humour helps in the heatwave here too !
My gosh when you mentioned the ludicrous rear view mirrors I couldn't stop noticing it!!! They look so silly! 🤣🤣
How’s it going Bill always look foward to the cool cars and your great humor! 🤣👍🏼
I can see Bill having lumber loaded into the trunk of this car at Home Depot, and throwing the speaker boxes in the garbage lol!
Cadillac is the Rolls-Royce of automobiles.
Bill, time to start a Podcast! The miles fly by listening to your great reviews/stories.
I always stop everything immediately to watch a new Curious Cars video from Bill! Where can I buy the “Good Morning “ coffee cup?
That hotel in Manchester is called The Midland. I live about half a mile from it and every time I go for a drink in the bar there I remember it being where RR was formed. Mainly because there's a big plaque on the wall by the front door commemorating it.
I like those doors. you can secure your car with handcuffs.
Its been 3-4 years now that before my final decision on a car I check with Bill’s reviews.
Keep up the good work.
Gonna definitely swing by to get a selfie with Bill.
Much Love. ❤
Bill... that hood ornament has wings!! Doesn't that look a little too avian for a feather-phobe like yourself?!?!😳
Bill, thanks as always for another great producing, your hitting streak continues.
Another great day for the CZcams car scene, thanks Bill !! 🙌🏽🐐
@21:16 Imagine the comments at the shop when the previous owner wanted
to have those speaker boxes installed in the trunk; "You want to do what?! To a Rolls-Royce?!?!?!"
I once saw a rather derelict looking RR Silver Shadow complete with a roof rack at a local Home Depot.
"The Dr Hammers". You are a sarcastic, elitist GENIUS!
I love how they replaced the BMW bong with a version done on a harp and called it good 😀
Bill I need you to do a video on any car in winter in the Midwest or east coast when nothing works in -20 x
Degree weather
Hi Bill, thank you for your videos. This car is just gorgeous. Climb in and crank up that AC. 👍👍
I reckon if this were the 2 door version, then the theme of this video would've been "the return of personal luxury"
I hate the bright white headlights that have become the standard on automobiles today, even on this 2012. Just too bright at night. How has this become acceptable in our society. I do not like to drive at night anymore. It is a hazard. It should be illegal.
Once your eyes adapt to LED headlights it’s almost impossible to see at night with halogens. I think Xenons were the best option. The brightness issue is because of aiming problems.
Thanks again Bill for all you do!
Oh jeez, now ur just spoiling us! Another awesome vid thank you!!
FYI those preset buttons that dominate the dash can be set to do almost anything: navigate home, call the wife, etc.
Great car and video. Look forward to them. Thanks Bill
Thanks for a proper 40-minute piece on this beast! Just noticed we're at 150k Subscribers - Congrats Bill! Seems like just yesterday when we did that R107 piece, where you presented that 100k plaque from Susan, CEO of CZcams. Indeed, strange name for a dude! 🤟🥃🥴
Always enjoy your vids 😊☺️
Started like my old 750 m70 fom 1990😂❤
Good video Men!😅
Bill your video’s are superb, don’t stop.
Great commentary Bill and always humorous.
Great video. Thanks, Bill!
Okay Bill !--U convinced me--I'll buy it! As long as I get the Grey Poupon as an accessory!--(make sure it's Not expired 😜)
Amazing vehicle, feels like you experience something special just watching the car being driven on video, thanks for sharing.
21:12 Something tells me that car has a power opening/closing trunk lid which probably no longer works after being forced open/closed 😂😂😂
I thought the same thing after hearing the sounds the hinges were making lol
Loved this! Good job, Sir!
By the way, you forgot to have some crumpets & tea.
My neighbor bought a beautiful '61 Bentley, but it took me decades to grasp his ride was much less money than a '58 ElDorado Biarritz!!
Your videos are always amazing. I absolutely love your walk through and hilarious talking points!! 😂
Awesome video, never change bill
Love to see a video on a daewoo
Thanks Bill, great review and lovely car, plus I can appreciate the heritage, but sadly it does nothing for me as a classic car guy. I have a 76 Shadow which is more my cuppa tea, despite the issues that comes with 🙂 And yes, if one turned up at a RR event without matching lambswool over-rugs, one would simply be expelled. At least you have sprung for the Grey Poupon!!
I agree a buddy of mine bought one of these and dnt get me wrong its a beautiful car however i do not get the same feeling as riding in my 1960 Chevy Impala convertible!!
@@greglopez7768 dude I hear you loud and clear 👍 I also have a 66 Mustang Conv. New cars might have bells and whistles but no soul. Gimme classic not plastic any day man 👍👍
YES!!! Its a shitty day until Bill posts a video!!!
Great review of an iconic car.
The Grey Poupon had me laughing so hard I hurt...
I like the sense of humour with “Slow people ahead” and the just stop oil protesters which happens to be an anagram of just to spoil.
I was expecting an umbrella in the rear door.
Finally you are here, Bill!
The disapproving frowns and glares from other drivers is most likely what made you sorta happy about this thing.
Plus with the blacked out glass, it might have even put an actual smile on your face..
I enjoy your reviews so glad I got to live the luxury life through this RR even if it was only for a short duration.
They start at $300K? What a bargain -- I'll take two of them!
Oh! It’s got ashtrays!! Count me in! Seriously.
Thanks Bill for this review definitely get one only i getting the drop head.
Love it, thanks for the vid!
Bill is the best Thx Bill. You amaze me with your smarts.
Finally, a car that suits Bill. ;)
Can’t believe all those commoners were impeding your progress. Outrageous!
Lottery winner owned it, most likely.
23:00 Gotta say it: That trunk lid closing sound could be a '70s Chevy.
I say this as a brokey that will probably NEVER actually get inside one of these.. GOD IT IS BEAUTIFUL! The amp and speakers are prerequisite too
If the SOB'S would have gotten out of his way he could have really got her going on the highway 😂😂😂😂
Just good to see a sedan. CUVs make me want to puke.
"that physician that does beats?" 🤣
Nice touch with the Grey Poupon !!
We love you BILL! from NYC!
BIL BILL BILL Whiskey drickin' Bill The DOUCHEBAGGARY OF IT ALL. NOW I WANT ONE.
A gorgeous car, but god those door mirrors spoil it some what. I'm writing this just a few miles from the Midland Hotel(still very posh) in Manchester UK where the two gentlemen met. They built the first cars in Manchester ironically only few miles from where Ford started building Model T's.
'LOW' is a reference to low gear ratio, which you use for some extra performance. It's the R-R word for 'Sport'.
Did you bring your Grey Poupon? "But of course" you did! 😂🤣
Nothing announces you've arrived quite like being greeted by a ukulele! 🤔🤣 That change in attitude! 😭
Time 16:15… Hey Bill, love your videos brother. With your subtle to egregious humor constantly vacillating from one to the other, we never know quite what to expect! Oh yea, and it’s nice to hear about the vehicles also. 😉
Keep up the good work friend!
PS*** When I saw that quite ridiculous, ostentatious motorized hood ornament, I just knew some of your witty sarcasm was soon to follow! 😂
PPS*** Many younger viewers may not have gotten it, but your reference to: “Pardon me, but would you happen to have any Grey Poupon” was hilarious! 👍👍👍
The hood ornament is almost as cool as pop-up headlights!!
Those woofer boxes, not planning to do airport duty then!
No better way to start off the week than with a deep sigh from Bill!
I come here just to hear that. No bullshit..
Oh ya!!!
